Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Field Inspector local to Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, or Michigan. This position will require traveling to local client sites as well as occasional out of state travel when needed (up to 65%.) Orbital's Asset Integrity Services ensures client structures and equipment remain compliant and reliable. Reporting to the Atlantic Region Department Manager, this role involves conducting field inspections, collecting data, preparing technical reports, and other duties. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in heavy industrial settings such as steel mills, petrochemical, chemical, mining, materials processing, or power generation. Candidates must be prepared to readily accept these requirements and will be properly trained to work in these environments. The ideal candidate will be a high-performing, critical-thinking, analytical, and experienced self-starter with excellent leadership skills, written and oral communication skills, customer service skills, and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. PRIMARY ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Detect possible defects and faults in structural and mechanical systems in the field and recommend or stipulate appropriate remedial measures for noncomplex defects. * Generates accurate inspection reports in Orbital's inspection software platform efficiently within project budgets. * Ensure all operational and project related activities are completed in accordance with Orbital's Project Management System (OPMS). * Accurately read and comprehend drawings. * Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation which takes place mainly in an on-the-job training setting. * Use graphic instructions, such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or other visual aids. * Applies intensive and diversified knowledge in broad areas of assignments, especially projects concerned with unique or specialized problems. * Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. * Complete company developed training modules. * Interfaces directly with the client's representatives, as necessary. * Proficient with a computer and/or tablet use in office & field. * This position will require travel to client sites in other states. * Work safely while performing field and office tasks. EXPERIENCE * 2-10 years of appropriate inspection experience with a safe performance record. * Personnel with experience in shop welding and fabrication or quality inspection in other fields is a plus. Project management responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Execution of and project management for multiple environmental projects which include multi-faceted components. The ideal candidate will use a background in the ecological sciences (wetland delineations, habitat studies, etc) and a thorough understanding of Clean Water Act Section 404 permitting, Rivers and Harbors Act Section 10 permitting, leading consultation under the Endangered Species Act and the National Historic Preservation Act. Participate in business development activities including the development of proposals and cost estimates for new projects, development of and participation in client-facing presentations, and manage existing relationships with existing clients while contributing to the expansion of our growing Texas business. Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to less experienced staff members. Additional responsibilities include: + Lead project teams on a variety of tasks, including completion of field surveys, environmental permitting with federal, state and local agencies, review of necessary project reports and materials. + Interface daily with various agencies to obtain approvals, submit permit applications and prepare responses in a timely manner. + Daily interfacing with clients to develop relationships, build business, and expand services to new clients. + Manage work within budget and schedule expectations for each project. + Apply technical and creative solutions to environmental permitting and due diligence. + Advise clients of appropriate strategies to obtain permits and maintain compliance with regulations and permit conditions. + Provide guidance on regulations and permitting through USACE, USEPA, and various state and local regulations pertaining to the environmental permitting of new projects. + Publish technical papers and deliver presentations at conferences. + Travel may be required as necessary and required by project or client commitments. + All other duties as assigned. **Qualifications** + B.S. or M.S. in environmental science, environmental planning, or environmental/civil engineering preferred with at least 7 years (10 years preferred) of applicable experience successfully executing and managing various environmental permitting projects. + Experience in multiple market sectors is a plus with an emphasis on electric utility, renewable, and oil & gas facility markets. Assistant Project Manager will support tasks ranging from monitoring schedule for adherence to managing material orders to completing regular project checklists to tracking project as-builts, and so on. * Assistant Project Manager will be expected to participate in on-site field walkdowns and must be willing and able to contribute to project goals/objectives in a group setting. * Assistant Project Manager will be expected to provide input to improve processes/procedures as appropriate to maximize efficiency and performance of the Project Management Team as a cohesive unit. * In general, occasionally climb ladders and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. * Demonstrate ability in daily task planning, strategic task planning, as well as understanding of determining priorities amongst multiple projects * Willing to ask questions and seek training required to execute and supplement knowledge required to support Senior Project Management Staff and properly execute tasks * Will be expected to learn and use multiple software systems as required Minimum Requirements * Bachelor's Degree in a Related Field * 3-5 Years Project Management Experience * Experience in Commercial / Industrial T&D or Experience in Management Preferred * Must exhibit strong written and verbal communication capabilities. * Must be competent in basic computer programs (Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe). * Must be competent in scheduling software (P6) and provide schedule updates as required. * Must be organized, self-motivated, coachable, and detail oriented. * Must be able to work well in a group setting and manage simultaneous tasks. * Must be willing to travel as needed. Travel and lodging costs are reimbursable. * Must possess a valid driver's license and personal vehicle to frequent construction sites. * Good Understanding of basic financial planning and forecasting * Ability to make good judgment based on facts and data * This position requires the ability to pass a post-offer drug (including marijuana) and alcohol test in compliance with Federal regulations and is also subject to random testing as a condition of continued employment.
