Pocono Produce Company company history timeline
It all began in 1903 with a wholesale banana business in Scranton, PA. Kahlil Driebe, father of Ed Driebe, and his brother Tom expanded their banana business to distribute fresh fruit and produce to East Stroudsburg’s numerous local resorts.
Ed Driebe’s sister Mary and her husband opened another Park Market in 1927 at the corner of 6th and Main Street, 45 miles away in Stroudsburg, PA.
In 1940, Ed Driebe and wife, Mary, moved to Stroudsburg to operate the Park Market.
By 1964, Pocono Produce Company added groceries to its expanding line of fresh and frozen and continued to enlarge its freezer capacity.
In 1966, the company joined Frosty Acres.
Pocono Produce became a full-service distributor in 1976 by adding paper products and janitorial supplies to the inventory.
Fresh seafood was introduced in 1983.
In 1984, a 330,000 cubic-foot freezer was added to meet demand.
Unfortunately, founder Edward K. Driebe passed away on January 1, 2005.
