Point Park University history

In 1966 the college was granted four-year status, officially becoming Point Park College, and began awarding bachelor's degrees.

Thirty-four years after forming the college, Dorothy Finkelhor retired in 1967.

Point Park's first graduate program (in journalism and mass communication) was established in 1981.

J. Matthew Simon became as the college's next president in 1986, overseeing the acquisition of a new library, program growth and the school's largest endowment.

The former president passed away in 1987, according to Harrity.

In 2003, it achieved university status and became Point Park University.

By 2004, the college was officially renamed Point Park University and the administration began an aggressive $1 million branding campaign to attract more enrollment.

The board of trustees officially named Paul Hennigan as Henderson's permanent successor at the beginning of the 2006 fall term.

A $16 million 44,000-square-foot (4,100 m) state-of-the-art dance complex opened in 2007.

In 2008, Point Park moved into the next chapter of its development as a vibrant academic and community partner with the announcement of the Academic Village at Point Park University, a thriving living and learning hub.

In September 2010, the newly renovated former YMCA building reopened as the interim Student Center with exercise and fitness facilities and equipment, a gymnasium, meeting space and much more.

White passed away in 2012, and the university decided to commemorate him by officially naming the George Rowland White Performance Center and the GRW Theater after him, according to Harrity.

In 2015, the university began creating a "New Academic Village" that will make the school, and downtown, a vibrant area for students.

In the Fall of 2018, a coffee shop opened on campus and named Point Perk in a student naming contest.
