Annual Base Salary for newly appointed CBPOs varies as follows:
GS-9: $61,111 - $124,443 per year
Note: A fully trained CBPO is eligible for up to $45,000 in overtime pay in addition to the starting salary.
Officers are eligible to select from an array of federal employment benefits that include health, dental and other insurance plans, generous annual and sick leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan.
LOCATION INCENTIVES: If you accept one of the duty locations listed below, you may be eligible to receive an additional 15%-25% of your salary each year for the first three (3) years of employment in addition to any overtime pay. Some locations may offer 25% for four (4) years.

Qualifications:
You qualify for the GS-9 grade level in one of the following ways: experience, education, or a combination of both.
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level that includes:
Detaining suspected violators of federal, state, or local laws and/or arresting violators using the proper law enforcement methods.
Enforcing laws and regulations relating to importing, exporting, and/or international shipping.
Utilizing intelligence techniques and behavior analysis to identify potential threats.
Conducting interviews in a law enforcement capacity.
Education Substitution: A master's (or higher) degree or an LL.B. or J.D. from an accredited college or university; OR
Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of specialized experience AND successfully completed graduate-level education.

Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.

Under the direction of the Chief of Police or his/her designee, the Institutional Police Officer works in the San Francisco Community College District Police Department and acts as a peace officer pursuant to Section 830.32(a) of the California Penal Code and Section 72330 of the California Education Code. The San Francisco Community College District Police Department is a Peace Officers' Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) participant. The officer's primary functions are to provide protection of life and property and to enforce state and local laws and college policies within the jurisdiction of San Francisco Community College District campuses. In accordance with District policy, the San Francisco Community College District Police Department is a sworn unarmed department. Employees are required to sign a memorandum acknowledging their understanding of the District's policy in this regard.
Job Duties
RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES:
1. Maintain law and order within and surrounding City College campuses and other district sites.
2. Provide a safe and secure environment for the students, faculty, staff and visitors.
3. In a professional and courteous manner; respond to all emergencies on District property.
4. Uphold the laws and statues of the State of California, municipal and criminal, enforce state and local ordinances, rules and regulations related to the San Francisco Community College District.
5. Provide assistance and /or first aid.
6. Perform traffic control and investigate traffic collisions.
7. Issue verbal warning or issue citations for violations observed and issue parking citations.
8. Patrol assigned areas in a marked patrol vehicle and/or on foot.
9. Provide money escorts upon request on District property.
10. Conduct investigations of various crimes committed; interview suspects. victims and witnesses in the field; make arrests as necessary; prepare reports on arrests, burglaries, disturbances and unusual circumstances observed.
11. Make felony/misdemeanor/warrant arrests as necessary which includes transporting and booking suspects as well as properly preparing a San Francisco Police Department Incident Report.
12. Assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors by providing directions and responding to questions and inquiries; provide service escorts for any person requiring assistance.
13. Respond to faculty, staff and student complaints in potentially hostile situations; intervene and mediate in disturbances and disputes.
14. Testify and present evidence in court as necessary.
15. Assist in the event of natural disasters and other extraordinary circumstances.
16. May perform other duties as assigned by Chief of Police or his/her designee.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This classification may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing, running or sitting for prolonged periods of time; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; possible exposure to physical injury and other dangers inherent in police work. Must possess satisfactory hearing capabilities and visual acuity of at least 20/100 correctable to at least 20/30 in each eye. Officers are required to wear police uniforms, a bullet proof vests, and required police gear.
Officers are required to work flexible shifts, rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Officers may be assigned to any of the District campuses under the department policy and/or at the discretion of the Chief of Police.
The department currently operates two shifts: Day shift and swing shift. Shifts are 5 days/8 hours per day or 4 days/10 hours per day; 7 days a week.

Education:
High School diploma or equivalent (GED or High School Proficiency Examination). AND
Experience:

Benefits
1. Additional Days Off with Pay. As stipulated in the appropriate bargaining agreements and board resolutions, Classified employees working full year (260 days/year) work schedules are granted, as paid days off, the days between Christmas Day and New Year's Day, as well as an additional five (5) paid days during spring break. Eligible school-term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the designated days between Christmas and New Year's Day shall be granted three (3) paid days off to be scheduled by mutual agreement between the employee and supervisor. Eligible school-term-only employees who are not scheduled to work on the days designated as Spring Break will not be paid for these days off.
2. New employees hired on or after October 1, 2013 will contribute 2% of salary to the San Francisco Retiree Health Care Trust Fund (RHCTF).

Position Summary
The University Police Department (UPD) is responsible for enforcement of all laws, apprehension of violators, maintenance of order, preservation of human life, protection, and safety services to the SF State community. It is our goal to provide a safe environment for our campus community through proactive, progressive and professional law enforcement services. Our approach places an emphasis on public services and crime prevention. UPD is a progressive customer service-oriented department that encourages employee participation, innovation, and leadership. Under the direction of a Police Sergeant, the incumbent is expected to perform law enforcement duties including: foot, bicycle and/or vehicle patrol of SF State campus, residential properties and surrounding community; investigate and prepare preliminary investigation reports; issue citations; make arrests; assist in the prosecution of violators of law; provide crime prevention information; and serve as a proactive resource to a uniquely diverse community. * Must be a minimum of 21 years of age by the time of sworn appointment.

Benefits
Retirement: CalPERS retirement formula is 3% at age 55 for Classic members or; 2.7% at age 57 for "new members" as defined by Government Code §7522.04(e). SELECTION
All applications will be carefully reviewed. The selection process will include a physical ability test, an oral interview and a personal history review. Successful applicants will be placed on a list of qualifiers. Based on position on the list, applicants will complete a polygraph or Computer Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) Examination and intensive background investigation. Successful candidates will be scheduled for an interview with the Department Director. Those passing will be given a conditional job offer and scheduled for a medical and psychological examination. The entire process should be completed within 90 days. The physical ability performance test is mandatory and only given to those applicants who are applying for the position of police officer. The test has been developed by POST as a standard to measure physical characteristics of strength, endurance, and the agility necessary to perform job-related functions of a police officer. The applicant must pass all parts of the test within the allotted time period. The test shall be scored as pass or fail.
1. Elements of the physical ability performance test are:
Obstacle Course/Agility Run: Run a 99-yard obstacle course consisting of several sharp turns, a number of curb-height obstacles, and a 34-inch-high obstacle that must be vaulted.
Body Drag: Life and drag a 165-pound lifelike dummy 32 feet.
Solid Fence Climb: Run 5 yards to a 6-foot solid fence, climb over fence, and continue running another 25 yards.
500 Yard Run: Run 500 yards

Under the direction of the Chief of Police or his/her designee, the Institutional Police Officer works in the San Francisco Community College District Police Department and acts as a peace officer pursuant to Section 830.32(a) of the California Penal Code and Section 72330 of the California Education Code. The San Francisco Community College District Police Department is a Peace Officers' Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) participant. The officer's primary functions are to provide protection of life and property and to enforce state and local laws and college policies within the jurisdiction of San Francisco Community College District
campuses.
In accordance with District policy, the San Francisco Community College District Police Department is a sworn unarmed department. Employees are required to sign a memorandum acknowledging their understanding of the district's policy in this regard.
Responsibilities and Job Duties:
Maintain law and order within and surrounding City College campuses and other district sites.
Provide a safe and secure environment for the students, faculty, staff and visitors.
In a professional and courteous manner; respond to all emergencies on District property.

This classification may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing, running or sitting for prolonged periods of time; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; possible exposure to physical injury and other dangers inherent in police work. Must possess satisfactory hearing capabilities and visual acuity of at least 20/100 correctable to at least 20/30 in each eye. Officers are required to work flexible shifts, rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Officers may be assigned to any of the district campuses under the department policy and/or at the discretion of the Chief of Police.

Benefits
The City's comprehensive benefits package includes:
Holidays: 13 days per year.
Vacation: From 11 to 20 days per year, depending on length of service.
Sick Leave: Accrual is one day per month, with no limit on accrual. If retiring from the City, unused sick leave may be used as service credit towards CalPERS retirement.
Retirement: The City contracts with CalPERS to provide a retirement plan that utilizes the formula of 3% @ 50 for "Classic members" or 2.7% @ 57 for "PEPRA members." Classic members contribute 9% employee contribution plus 4% employer cost share. PEPRA members contribute 13% employee contribution plus 4% employer cost share in additional to 50% of the normal cost.

Deferred Compensation: The City contributes $6.69 per pay period to one of three City-offered deferred compensation plans: ICMA-RC, Nationwide Retirement Solutions, or CalPERS.
Second Language Incentive: Upon successful completion of proficiency examination, the City will pay $372 per month in addition to base salary for proficiency in Spanish, Tagalog, and Chinese.

The university is located near Palo Alto, 35 miles south of San Francisco, on an 8,800-acre campus.
**Job Purpose**
Employees hired into the entry level, non-sworn Deputy Sheriff Cadet (trainee) position will be assigned to attend a California P.O.S.T. certified basic police training academy or a regular basic academy requalification course, if applicable. Candidates who meet department performance expectations and successfully pass the basic police academy or meet the requalification criteria will be sworn in as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for Santa Clara County in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between the University and the Sheriff of Santa Clara County. This agreement provides for the deputization of Stanford Deputies as sworn peace officers, having full law enforcement powers to make arrest and enforce state laws and county ordinances pursuant to section 830.6 of the California Penal Code. Upon deputization, the incumbent will enter the Field Training program as a probationary Deputy Sheriff.
At the academy, the Deputy Sheriff Cadet will receive basic training that complies with the standards set by the California Commission of Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T). The basic training program includes approximately 920 hours of academic classes, hands-on training and physical conditioning. Knowledge-based training includes, but is not limited to: Criminal Law, Patrol Procedures, Cultural Diversity, Investigative Procedures, Report Writing, Defensive Tactics, Firearms, Leadership, Ethics, Community Policing, Police Vehicle Operations, Traffic Enforcement, Accident Investigation, Handling Emotional Situations and First Aid/CPR. Hands-on training includes, but not limited to: weapons training, role playing scenarios, patrol procedures, emergency vehicle operations, and arrest and control techniques. Recruits are required to complete 80 hours of instruction in defensive tactics which includes ground control, baton training, control holds and take downs. The physical conditioning program consists of specific performance tests and a program of physical training. The training includes running (distance and speed), push-ups, sit-ups, weight training and calisthenics.
During the course of their work, the Deputy Sheriff Cadet will be exposed to potentially dangerous and adverse conditions. The Deputy Sheriff Cadet must be willing and able to work in emergency situations, confined spaces, and intense life-threatening conditions. Cadets will be exposed to persons whose actions may place them in harm's way. Cadets will be exposed to bodily fluids, fumes, moving objects, and noise. Candidates must be physically able to work in circumstances requiring running, jumping, walking, crawling, kneeling, climbing, stooping, pulling and moderate lifting.
The Deputy Sheriff Cadet must be willing and able to work in inclement weather conditions and able to work irregular work hours and able to work all shifts. **Academy Requirements**
_As entry level law enforcement candidates attending a basic police academy, recruits (cadets / trainees) are expected to demonstrate total commitment towards successfully meeting the academic and physical requirements set by the academy._ _Throughout the academy, recruits will be expected to adopt a demeanor that encompasses pride, professionalism, maturity, and self-discipline._ _Work ethic will be defined and serve as a guide to each new recruits' professional conduct._
+ Ability to prepare self mentally / physically to approach the basic academy with an eagerness to learn and develop the discipline and skills required to become a peace officer for the State of California.
+ Meet or exceed the expectations set by the Academy.
+ Ability to understand and accept the Academy chain of command.
+ Successfully pass approximately 41 Learning Domains and practical exercises with a score established by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
+ In addition to P.O.S.T. testing requirements, the Deputy Sheriff Cadet must successfully pass numerous additional academy specific objectives in order for the recruit to graduate from the basic academy.
+ Recruits are required to attain an acceptable level of physical fitness during the basic academy.In accordance with P.O.S.T. regulations, recruits who are unable to complete 30 hours of physical training during the first twelve to fourteen weeks of the basic academy must be recommended for removal from the basic academy.
+ Maintain a mature and professional attitude.
+ Engage tactfully and courteously with the academy staff and classmates.
+ Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of attending the academy.
+ While attending the academy, the incumbent may be required to attend additional training outside of the academy at the Stanford Department of Public Safety.
+ While attending the academy, the incumbent may be required to work special events as a Deputy Sheriff Cadet on the Stanford University campus.
+ Wear a uniform issued by the academy and the Stanford Department of Public Safety.
+ Upon approval by the academy coordinator, wear a utility / duty belt (approximately 40 pounds) during training, other police equipment weighing up to an additional 40 pounds during special training.
+ Attend the academy during irregular hours set by the academy curriculum, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
+ The Deputy Sheriff Cadet must meet or exceed written performance evaluations from the Recruit Training Officer at the academy in the following areas:

**General Requirements:**
· Possess of a valid California Class C Driver's License prior to appointment.
· Legally able to work in California.
· Be 21 years of age or older.
· Possess a U.S. high school diploma or general education diploma (GED).
· Have completed forty - five (45) semester units or sixty (60) quarter units from an accredited college or university.
· Be free of any **felony** conviction or certain **misdemeanor** convictions that are disqualifying.
· Ability to pass an extensive background investigation including medical and psychological examinations.
· Be of good **moral character** as determined by a thorough background investigation.
· Be free of any **physical, emotional, or mental conditions** that might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a peace officer.
· Ability to accommodate and schedule adjustments in order to meet academy and SUDPS training and special details.
· Willingness to work special events on scheduled days off or after regular academy shift hours, sometimes with little or no advance notice.
· Ability to wear and breathe through a respirator.
· At the discretion of the Chief of Police, Deputy Sheriff Cadets may be issued a department / university cell phone and are expected to answer this phone while off-duty at the basic academy.
· Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include sitting or standing for extended periods of time, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.
· Vision not less than 20/100 in each eye; correctable to no less than 20/30 in each eye; without functional color blindness or impairment
· Normal hearing in each ear
