Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
State or municipality mandated security officer licenses
Minimum High School Diploma, GED or the equivalent

Overtime Pay: Up to 25%
Duty location impacts pay rates; locality pay for federal law enforcement is higher in some locations than others. A fully trained BPA may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with a grade level progression from GL-9 to GS-11 to GS-12. You will be eligible for a promotion to the next higher grade level (without re-applying) once you successfully complete 52 weeks in the lower grade level.
All Border Patrol Agents may select from an array of federal employment benefits that include health and insurance plans, a generous annual and sick leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan that is similar to traditional and ROTH 401(k) offerings. *Recruitment Incentive* Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents (as defined in 5 CFR 575.102) will be offered up to a $20,000 incentive. The first $10,000 will be paid upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, with the remaining $10,000 awarded for accepting a prioritized

Duties and Responsibilities:
As a BPA, you will be part of our 60,000+ workforce that strives to protect the American people by safeguarding our borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing the nation's economic prosperity. Being a BPA makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession.
Typical assignments include:
· Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
· Preventing and apprehending aliens and smugglers of aliens at or near the borders by maintaining surveillance from covert positions to include using infrared scopes during night operations.
· Interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry of persons or contraband.
· Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
· Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using a variety of government assets such as vehicles, horses, vessels, watercraft, off-road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles for the accomplishment of the USBP Mission.
Qualifications:
GL-9: You qualify for the GL-9 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
· Performing physical searches of detained individuals, their vehicles, and their immediate surroundings for weapons, contraband, currency, and other evidence.
· Apprehending, physically restraining, or working with law enforcement officials to identify or apprehend violators of state, federal, or immigration laws.
· Proficient in the use of firearms, preparing investigative reports, serving court orders (e.g., warrants, subpoenas, etc.), and gathering evidence for criminal cases prosecuted through the court system.
If you have previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience, you may qualify at the GS-11 grade level.
GS-11: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, with the authority granted by the state or government to enforce laws, make arrests, and investigate crimes, performing primary duties in an official law enforcement capacity such as:
· Utilizing intelligence information to track illegal operations, criminal activity, threats to our nation, and/or contraband while serving as a state, federal, or military law enforcement official.
· Leading investigations of fraud, contraband, criminal activity, threats to our nation, and/or illegal operations to determine sources and patterns while serving as a state, federal, or military law enforcement official.
· Apprehending violators of state, federal, or immigration laws by utilizing various forms of complex technology that include surveillance, detection, situation awareness systems, and/or communications equipment.
The above experience will be applied in connection with the following: Make arrests and exercise sound judgment in the use of firearms; deal effectively with people in a courteous manner in connection with law enforcement matters; analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions; or develop and maintain contact with a network of informants.
There are no education substitutions for the GL-9 or GS-11 grade-level Border Patrol Agent opportunities.
Other Requirements:
Citizenship: You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position.
Residency: You must have had primary U.S. residency (including protectorates as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.
Age Restriction: In accordance with Public Law 100-238, this position is covered under law enforcement retirement provisions. Candidates must be referred for selection to the Border Patrol Agent position before reaching their 40th birthday in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Directive 251-03. The age restriction may not apply if you are currently serving or have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement (non-military) position covered by Title 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) or Title 5 U.S.C. 8412(d).
Veterans' Preference: You may also be eligible for an excepted service Veterans' Recruitment Appointment (VRA). The age restriction does not apply if you are Veterans' Preference eligible.
Formal Training: After you are hired, you will be detailed to the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, for approximately six (6) months of intensive instruction in immigration and nationality laws, law enforcement, and USBP-specific operations, driver training, physical techniques, firearms, and other courses. Border Patrol work requires the ability to speak and read Spanish, as well as English. Border Patrol Agents will be provided training to become proficient in the Spanish language at the Academy.

* Upon hiring, the level of compensation shall be the same as, or as reasonably proximate to, based upon the current Bristol CBA salary schedule, the rate the officer received from their previous employer. Thereafter, policeofficers shall advance to the next highest Step, if any, on their anniversary date of employment.
Sign On Bonus: $7,500 lump sum payment minus applicable deductions after successfully completing the probationary period with the City of Bristol per the Memorandum of Understanding.
Probationary Period: Twelve (12) months for certified officers hired under the Memorandum of Understanding.
Enhanced Benefits:
Vacation: Upon hire, the level of vacation received shall be the same, or as reasonably proximate to, based upon the current Bristol CBA , the amount the officer received from their previous employer.
Sick Leave: Upon hire, the officer shall receive 12 working days of sick leave credit. Thereafter, the officer shall receive sick leave benefits in accordance with Sec. 14.5 of the current CBA, namely 12 working days of sick leave credit each year on the anniversary date of employment. Upon reaching 5 years of service, the officer shall receive sick leave benefits in accordance with the CBA.
Student Loan Forgiveness Program:
* After completion of probation, lateral hired officers only, shall be reimbursed up to $5,000 per year for student loan reimbursements up to a maximum of 5 years from their date of hire.
* Reimbursements shall be made for student loan debt incurred prior to employment with Bristol.
* Payments shall be made at the beginning of the fiscal year (during the month of July) with evidence of student loan payments for the prior year (July 1st thru June 30th).
* Eligibility for payment reimbursement shall not occur unless employed as of July 15th of a given year. This payment shall, if required, be made net of applicable deductions.
* Eligibility for the program and payments for reimbursement shall be made at the sole discretion of the City.
Duration: The City has right, in its sole discretion, to terminate the Sign-On Bonus and enhanced benefits program with 30 days' notice to the Union. The MOU shall expire 07-01-27 unless the parties otherwise agree to extend it.

Starting Salary:
* First 6 months of traineeship - $61,587 (at the residential academy)
* Second 6 months of traineeship - $63,192 - $82,525 (rate will be based on what county the Park PoliceOfficer Trainee is assigned to for field training after the 6-month residential academy)

Additional Geographic Pay:
Officers who work in the five boroughs of New York City or in Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, or Westchester counties will receive an additional $1,762 annual downstate adjustment.
In addition to the downstate adjustment, Police who work in the following locations will receive an additional supplemental local pay in the following amounts: the counties of Orange, Putnam, and Dutchess counties - $1,467; the five boroughs of New York City, Rockland, and Westchester counties - $2,204; and Nassau and Suffolk counties - $2,571.
Officers who work in the Mid-Hudson region (Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, and Westchester counties) or Downstate region (Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, or Suffolk counties) are eligible for an additional $15,000 in geographic pay differentials.

Responsibilities:
Patrol duties:
Armed first responder to all emergencies on campus to protect life and property.
Responds to calls for service. Conducts preliminary investigation and writes thorough and detailed incident reports. Contacts local law enforcement as necessary.
Responds with local law enforcement, fire and EMS to all emergencies occurring off campus at Quinnipiac owned properties.
Conducts preventive patrols and makes routine security checks of all off campus buildings and structures.
Detects and investigates criminal activity on university property.
May detain persons who have committed offenses and turn custody over to local law enforcement.
Conducts parking enforcement, issues citations, and tows vehicles as necessary.
Campus security services:
Conducts security patrols of all Quinnipiac properties 24/7, year-round. Patrols are made primarily by vehicle. Walking and bicycle patrols are also performed.
Answers all alarm calls. Sets/resets alarms. Manages building access control.
Makes reports of unsafe building and grounds maintenance issues to Facilities Department.
Serves as emergency notifying agency for facilities related issues after business hours.
Assists community members, guests and visitors needing help or support.
Provides security and crowd management services at special events such as athletic events, move-in, and graduations.
Provides escorts and dignitary protection.
Performs other duties as directed by Chief of Public Safety or designee.
Residential Life/Student Affairs:
Responds to all reported disturbances, emergencies, and suspicious circumstances in the residence halls.
Assist Residential Hall Directors with uncooperative or confrontational residents and unregistered guests.
Assist Residential Life staff with enforcement of housing policies.
Perform room and/or vehicle searches as authorized by university policy.

Qualifications:
Mandatory Qualifications:
The Armed Public Safety Officer shall be a retired member of an organized local, state, or federal government agency as a law enforcement officer.
Served as a local, state or federal law enforcement officer for an aggregate of 2 years or more and separated from such service in good standing.
Current State of Connecticut Pistol Permit.
Ability to obtain Connecticut State Police Approved Armed Security Guard Firearms Permit (Blue Card).
Basic computer skills required.
Candidate must pass extensive background investigation including check for criminal history and psychological exam.
Candidate must pass physical exam and drug test.
Effective written and verbal communication skills required.
Excellent interpersonal and human relation skills required.
Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment and common sense appropriate to the related circumstances.
Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions and prepare accurate and clear information for comprehensive report preparation.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of job-related information.
Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts covering all days of the week and all hours of the day including weekends and holidays.
Mandatory Documentation Requirements:
A letter or certificate stating that you are a graduate of an approved local, state, or federal law enforcement training academy.
A letter of recommendation from your previous Police Chief indicating that you served as a local, state or federal law enforcement officer for an aggregate of 2 years or more and separated from such service in good standing.
Current State of Connecticut Pistol Permit.
Valid Connecticut driver's license.
DMV driving record history.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have full range of mobility in upper and lower body and be able to reach overhead. Be able to work in various positions, including but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time. Be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete the assigned job task. Be able to lift and/or move 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up top 50 pounds.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time for a period of time.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. This position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

Minimum Desired Qualifications:
