Duties
During the course of their careers, Uniformed Division Officers carry out assignments in protection. Duties include:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.
Requirements
U.S. citizenship is required.
Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license.
Be at least age 20 and less than age 37 at the time you receive a conditional offer of employment, unless you have previous service in a Federal Civilian Law Enforcement position covered by special law enforcement or firefighter retirement provisions, including early or mandatory retirement. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer of employment prior to reaching age 40 to continue in the application process.
Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.
Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. Applicants must be able to hear the whispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without the use of a hearing aid.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Determines appropriate revisions to the fee schedule for services provided by the Office. Administers the law and regulations governing the registration of land surveyors in the District of Columbia. Administers the subdivision regulations and the street and alley closing regulations. Maintains liaison with the Zoning Administrator relative to mutual aspects of the Zoning Regulations.
Prepares testimony for the Executive Branch and appears before the Council of the District of Columbia to present street and alley closing applications, transfers of jurisdictions, or amendments to the plan of the permanent system highways. Appears as expert witness in court on matters of property line locations and records of the Office. Ensures the proper preparation of each legislative package for the Mayor's submittal to the Council for closings and transfers of jurisdiction. Writes definitive findings on property line disputes, including those involving the interests of the Federal government, District government and foreign government owned land and the private sector.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
A. Degree: land surveying; or civil engineering with a surveying option/emphasis. The civil engineering major must have included at least 6 semester hours of surveying, 3 semester hours of land law, and 21 additional semester hours in any combination of the following: surveying, photogrammetry, geodetic surveying, geodesy, route surveying, remote sensing, cartography, survey astronomy, land information systems, computer-aided mapping, aerial photo interpretation, and survey analysis and adjustments.

B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in land surveying or civil engineering as described in paragraph A, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Or
C. Basic requirements for this series may be fully satisfied by a current registration as a land surveyor in a State, territory, or the District of Columbia obtained by written examination. Such registration must have been obtained under conditions outlined in the National Council of Engineering Examiners (NCEE) Unified Model Law for Registration of Surveyors. Applicants wishing to be considered under this provision must show evidence of registration based on successful completion of the written examinations. Registrations granted prior to adoption of a registration law with qualification requirements equivalent to the NCEE Model Law by the State, territory, or District of Columbia are not acceptable under this option. To be considered equivalent to the NCEE Model law, registration laws must include the four options listed within the NCEE Unified Model Law in the section specifying "General Requirements for Registration" as a Professional Land Surveyor.

Brief Description of Duties
Incumbent serves as a University Police Officer in Police Operations, the Office of Public Safety/Police and Emergency Management Services and the University of the District of Columbia. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Served in the US military, including the Organized Reserves or National Guard, for at least two years on active duty and if separated, have received an honorable discharge; OR
Served at least two years in a full-duty status with a full-service police department on a college campus or in a US state or municipality and have resigned or retired in good standing.
Must be able to successfully complete the Campus Public Safety Institute (CPSI) of the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area upon hire if there is no previous law enforcement experience upon hire.
Must be able to obtain and maintain Campus Special Police Officer (CSP) status through the District of Columbia and meet the prescribed requirements and qualifications associated with CSP status to include firearms and other weapon systems.
Must be 21 years of age at time of application, provide proof of age with application materials and be a citizen of the United States.

The major duties of the Police Officer include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Safeguarding the National Park Service icons and symbols of democracy as well as other parks and jurisdictional areas around the Washington Metropolitan Area.
* Prevent, detect, and investigate criminal activity. Pursue and ensure criminal actors are apprehended.
* Cooperate with and assist members of the Force, as well as other law enforcement agencies. United States Park Police officers are expected to regularly work with state, local and federal partners to enhance safety and reduce crime.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/31/2025-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one year of progressively responsible experience that demonstrates the ability to learn and apply detailed and complex regulations and procedures that involve making sound judgment based on the application of directions, regulations, or laws. Examples of qualifying examples include, but are not limited to: Work on a police force, service as a military police officer, specialized military experience, security guards, physical security, visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forest, or other natural resources or recreational environments, and/or criminal investigations; qualifying experience not immediately related to law enforcement may include, but is not limited to supervisory/managerial experience or personal work related experience that demonstrates the ability to independently manage critical tasks.

Physical Demands: The physical demands of this position require that all candidates pass an extensive physical examination, take a physical performance test, and meet the age requirements promulgated under the authority of 5 U.S.C. 3307. The incumbent must possess the psychomotor skills required to drive a vehicle in normal and emergency situations; fire a weapon accurately under extremely varied conditions; maintain agility, endurance and strength; and show dexterity in self-defense and apprehension (e.g. safely taking a person into custody with a minimum of force).
Working Conditions: The incumbent will be expected to work alone in areas where there is a probability that a person may be armed while attempting to commit a crime, and in an attempt to evade arrest, the situation may lead to an assault on the officer. The incumbent will be expected to work independently in an arduous duty position in situations where there is inherit risks of injury while fulfilling the essential functions of their position.

Basic Qualifications
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.
In addition to the above:
Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the NZ-08/GS-08 level in the Federal Service. For this position specialized experience is defined as: 1) coordinating and supervising Police Operations, 2) supplying data for estimating budgetary requirements particularly for uniforms, equipment, supplies, etc.; 3) providing recommendations to the Commanding Officer regarding staffing requirements, performance standards, new policies, procedures and instructions for a more efficient police service; 4) rating and reviewing performance of police personnel; and 5) promoting high morale and maintaining discipline.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Investigation of Fitness

FDD seeks a full-time U.S. military officer to serve as a Visiting Military Officer in its Center on Military and Political Power (CMPP). The officer must be able to commit to a 6-month or 1-year fellowship. Some officers can conduct short-term fellowships for as little as 6 weeks, depending on several variables. Fellowships can be in person in Washington, D.C. or a partially remote hybrid arrangement. This is an entry level position with no previous experience required. AUPD covers all the costs of required training. The Campus Police Officer provides a safe and secure environment to all members of the American University Community by providing law enforcement services and emergency responses on all University property. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is the official national Democratic campaign committee charged with electing Democrats to the U. S. House of Representatives. The DCCC recruits Democratic candidates and supports Democratic campaigns - both challengers and Democratic incumbent Members - with a variety of services including field operations, fundraising support, communications assistance, digital strategy, research support and management consulting. Position Summary:
The DCCC is currently seeking an experienced, strategic communicator to be the Deputy National Spokesperson for the 2026 election cycle. The Deputy will provide support to our National Spokesperson on national media needs.
This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.
Responsibilities:
Preparing outward facing material (press releases, strategic memos) that communicates the DCCC's position and reflects its strategic viewpoint;
Helping to pitch national media on the DCCC's preferred narrative of the House battlefield and occasionally serving as an on-the-record spokesperson for the Committee;
Assist in developing surrogate prep materials (talking points, Q+As, fact sheets) and assist in media prep for surrogates, senior staff and DCCC leadership;
Maintain relationships with TV bookers, podcast producers, and radio shows; pitch surrogates for appearance under the guidance of the National Spokesperson;
Monitoring news media and performing other duties as needed.
Requirements
2+ years of communications experience, on-the-record experience is preferred, ideally with a campaign, Capitol Hill, or issue advocacy experience;
Excellent writing skills and ability to learn from edits and constructive feedback;
Ability to work quickly in a fast-paced environment while balancing competing priorities;
Familiarity with national media and new media landscape is a must, and existing relationships with reporters is preferred;
Passionate about making sure Democrats across the house battlefield have the tools, resources, and support they need to run effective campaigns;

General Job Information The Police Cadet Program is designed to prepare candidates for entrance into the Metropolitan Police Officer Recruit Program and ensures that a steady stream of District of Columbia youth are actively recruited as future police officers. Cadets are 17-24 year-old uniformed civilian employees, working part time for the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) while attending the University of the District of Columbia. The Department funds up to 60 college credits to enable District residents with a high school degree from a District high school or a GED to meet the college education requirement.
Cadets must earn up to sixty (60) college credits at the University of the District of Columbia Community College to satisfy MPD's police recruit entrance requirement. The program helps cadets develop the leadership and analytical thinking skills required to meet the challenges of their complex roles as problem-solvers, service providers, and professionals in the criminal justice system of the 21st century. Recruits will spend part of their time working specific job assignments to support the day-to-day operations of the MPD, perform rotating assignments among the districts and divisions, and gain familiarization with the daily operations of the Department.

Police Cadet assignments are designed to familiarize you with the Department's organizational structure and the mission and functions of its components.
You will learn about the laws and policies of the department and be given increasingly more difficult assignments to prepare you for the police officer role. Summary:
The Police Lieutenant is a sworn, commissioned University Special Police Officer, serving as a personnel and/or function manager in the Department of Public Safety. He/she manages supervisory personnel and police officers that provide daily law enforcement services to the campus community. The Police Lieutenant coordinates aspects of assigned functions within the Department, such as police operations, investigations, property and evidence, crime prevention, victim assistance, special events and records management. The incumbent coordinates scheduling and work assignments. The Police Lieutenant researches and writes policies and standard operating procedures, and he/she reviews and approves daily incident reports.
The Police Lieutenant reports directly to the Police Captain of his/her assigned unit. The Police Lieutenant may be assigned to one of four units: Police Operations, Police Administration, Physical Security or Investigations & Threat Assessment. The Police Lieutenant supervises uniformed and/or plainclothes police personnel and civilian personnel. The Police Lieutenant manages functions within his/her assigned unit as assigned by the Police Captain.
Essential Functions:
1.) Police Operational and Administrative Coordination
* Coordinate DPS functions, including patrol, incident response, initial investigations, crime scene response, traffic and parking code enforcement, and event security oversight. Takes command and coordinates the DPS police response to emergency/critical incidents. Actively participates on patrol during all three shifts on a regular basis. Coordinates scheduling for patrol, investigators and special operations. Assesses and plans police equipment needs, including uniforms, weapons and vehicles. Read, edit and approve daily incident reports. Coordinates operational planning and procedures with other DPS units. Verifies compliance with all applicable University and District of Columbia policies, regulations and laws. Serves as the interim Police Captain in his/her absence.
2.) Program Coordination and Compliance
* Manages assigned sworn and civilian personnel. Coordinates the hiring, on-boarding and training processes for personnel with other DPS units. Manages the performance management process for assigned personnel, including evaluations, counseling and disciplinary matters. Monitors compliance with all District of Columbia regulations for University Special Police Officers.
3.) Police Training Program Management
* Designs, develops, and implements police training and requalification programs, based on law enforcement best practices and applicable laws and regulations for Police Officers and dispatchers. Training topics include field training, search and seizure, use of force, report writing, incident response, crime prevention, victim/witness assistance, crime scene response, emergency vehicle operation training, and defensive tactics. Coordinates the tracking and retention of training records with other AUPD units.
4.) Police Liaison
* Develops partnerships with University and community departments and agencies, such as Campus Life, Metropolitan Police Department, DC Fire Department and Homeland Security. Coordinates incident response plans, strategies and training with those entities. Assists other DPS units with physical security planning, crime prevention projects and emergency preparedness programs.
5.) Other Duties as Assigned
* Assesses purchase requests from subordinates; researches and recommends police equipment purchases in coordination with the Quartermaster.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
* Full-time.
* 40 hours per week.
* Position is considered as essential personnel under the University personnel policies.
* The Police Lieutenant will be required to work regardless of weather or natural/manmade disaster and is subject to call-out.
* Position is required to be able to work outside normal business hours to include nights and weekends.
Salary Range:
* $42.50 - $46.72 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
* 4 - 6 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
* Prior experience as a sworn, uniformed supervisor in a law enforcement agency.
* Prior experience in a university policing environment, with demonstrated experience coordinating programs with other university entities, such as campus life.
* Comprehensive knowledge of community policing techniques (obtained via experience, education, and training), especially as it pertains to the university environment.
* Knowledge of criminal law and procedure of the District of Columbia.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
* Demonstrated supervisory experience.
* Must be a US Citizen.
* Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population.
* Must have demonstrated experience writing and implementing policy.
* Must be able to quickly evaluate critical situations and determine the appropriate response, as demonstrated through past law enforcement experience.
* Demonstrated experience in the utilization of modern law enforcement management strategies, operational and investigative techniques, and technological tools.
* Must be able to possess and maintain a University Special Police Officer Commission or equivalent.
* Successful completion of medical and psychiatric examinations.
* Successful completion of initial, annual, and random drug screens.
* Must possess and maintain a permanent driver's license.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain the University's approval to drive University vehicles.
* Must be able to maintain and possess certification from a recognized law enforcement training academy.
* Must be able to maintain and possess all certifications that are required for uniformed officers.
* Must have comprehensive knowledge of the laws of arrest, search, and seizure.
* Must maintain training certification.
