Annual Base Salary for newly appointed CBPOs varies as follows:
GS-9: $61,111 - $124,443 per year
Note: A fully trained CBPO is eligible for up to $45,000 in overtime pay in addition to the starting salary.
Officers are eligible to select from an array of federal employment benefits that include health, dental and other insurance plans, generous annual and sick leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan.
LOCATION INCENTIVES: If you accept one of the duty locations listed below, you may be eligible to receive an additional 15%-25% of your salary each year for the first three (3) years of employment in addition to any overtime pay. Some locations may offer 25% for four (4) years.
Duty locations offering 25% recruitment incentives: Otay Mesa, San Francisco, San Ysidro, and Tecate, CA; Key West, FL; etc.
Duty locations offering 15% recruitment incentives: Honolulu, HI; Portal, ND; etc.

Qualifications:
You qualify for the GS-9 grade level in one of the following ways: experience, education, or a combination of both.
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level that includes:
Detaining suspected violators of federal, state, or local laws and/or arresting violators using the proper law enforcement methods.
Enforcing laws and regulations relating to importing, exporting, and/or international shipping.
Utilizing intelligence techniques and behavior analysis to identify potential threats.
Conducting interviews in a law enforcement capacity.
Education Substitution: A master's (or higher) degree or an LL.B. or J.D. from an accredited college or university; OR
Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of specialized experience AND successfully completed graduate-level education.
Other Requirements:
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Residency: Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.

Applicants must provide a portfolio highlighting their training, experience, and ability to investigate both administrative and criminal incidents within an educational setting. Highly qualified candidates will undergo an oral interview, followed by a conditional offer, background investigation, polygraph, physical exam, and psychological evaluation. Upon successful completion of all steps, a final interview with the Chief of Police will be conducted. Portions of the background check may be modified or waived at Chief's discretion and may be dependent on the law enforcement employment status of the applicant.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
Serves as a visible, active law enforcement presence on public school campus and is responsible for ensuring safety by patrolling school grounds, responding to suspicious activity taking law enforcement action as needed. The SRO oversees their assigned school as well as its feeder elementary and middle schools.
Assumes primary responsibility for handling all calls for service from the school and coordinates the response of other police resources to the school. Investigates, or assists in investigating, crimes and incidents occurring on school property. SRO is expected to assist PD during dire needs.
Works closely with the school staff to build positive relationships and promote a better understanding of law enforcement within the school community. This includes participation in the development and implementation of school safety plans and emergency response procedures.
Conducts annual safety and security assessments of all schools and provides or coordinates safety training for students and staff, including lockdown drills, fire drills, and evacuation protocols.
Conduct courses and workshops for students, staff and parents to promote social awareness, relationship skills, self-management, self-awareness and responsible decision making. Takes lead on training such as school safety, de-escalation, drug and alcohol abuse, bullying, internet safety, Crime prevention, traffic education, law enforcement education, bullying and similar topics.
Works with the School Administration to identify school events where police presence may be necessary, such as: all night graduation party, school dances, school plays, etc. SRO will attend these events if coverage is unavailable.
Conducts truancy checks as requested by school administration. Assists in investigating possible residency fraud for the school system.
Provides informal counseling and support to students and serving as a mentor to build trust and rapport.
Fulfills all the duties and responsibilities of a police officer. Attends all required PD training and operates under the direction of the Chief of Police or their designee.
Works flexible hours based on school hours and their needs; however, they are expected to respond to emergencies on campus during or outside of school hours.
Adheres to the guidelines of the MOU with the City of Falls Church Public Schools.
SROs will assist with the departmental needs during summer breaks and extended school closures.

Minimum Qualifications
To become a Police Officer with the City of Falls Church Police Department, you must meet the minimum qualifications for law enforcement office as defined in VA Code § 15.2-1705 and other hiring requirements.
Age: must be at least 20 years and 6 months of age at the time of application and at least 21 by the date of hire.
Character/Background Assessment: applicants that continue past the exam/interview phase will undergo a comprehensive background investigation and character check. Individual situations will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis; however, a favorable driving record and a clean criminal history are essential. The police department retains the right to reject any applicant for any arrest and/or conviction that occurred at any age (unless the arrest or criminal charge against them has been expunged, pursuant to Virginia Code § 15.2-1705).
All aspects of an applicant's background are considered when making a final hiring determination, however applicants who have past or current behavior(s) as listed below may be disqualified:
Have ever engaged in any activity that would support a felony conviction
Have convictions or charges pending for misdemeanor crimes relating to theft, domestic violence, assault, crimes of moral turpitude (such as lying under oath or falsifying official documents), any crime requiring registration on the Sex Offender Registry at any age, or any crime which carries a penalty of prohibiting the ownership of, possession, or control of a firearm.

Have associations with or support in any fashion any criminal gang, extremist-racist, Anti-Semitic group, or any group that has stated a desire to overthrow the United States Government.
Have recent history of bankruptcy, substantial debts with collection agencies, or poor credit record that indicates poor financial literacy.
Illicit use of any Schedule 1 drugs (illegal drugs never prescribed for any legitimate purpose), Schedule 2 drugs (medicinal drugs not used in a manner consistent with what they are prescribed for), or anabolic steroids (unless prescribed by a physician) within three years of the date of application.
Having sold, distributed, or manufactured any prescription or illegal drugs without legal authorization.
Any previous revocation or denial of certification as Police Officer or a suspension of current certified status.
Failure to provide a fully completed, honestly reported, Personal History Statement, including intentional withholding of information on any application, interview, or paperwork associated with the position
Citizenship: must be a United States citizen. Permanent resident aliens with an application for naturalization filed and pending with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services may also be considered.
Driver's License: must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license by date of hire. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
Education: must have a high school diploma or passed the GED.
Physical Condition: must be in good physical condition as determined by a licensed medical professional provided by the City of Falls Church Human Resources Department. This medical assessment may include tests on physical agility, near vision, color blindness, darkness perception, night vision, and peripheral vision.
Substance Use:
No use of marijuana from the date of application, regardless of location use (includes states/counties where usage may be legal).
No use of any tobacco or marijuana products from the date of hire. The City of Falls Church Police Department is a drug and tobacco free work environment.
Candidates who fail their pre-employment drug screening will be disqualified.
Work Agreements:
Must sign an employment agreement contract if hired.
Must be able to work 12.5 hour rotating shifts.
Successful completion of field training and one (1) year of probationary period after field training.

The major duties of the Police Officer include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Safeguarding the National Park Service icons and symbols of democracy as well as other parks and jurisdictional areas around the Washington Metropolitan Area.
* Prevent, detect, and investigate criminal activity. Pursue and ensure criminal actors are apprehended.
* Cooperate with and assist members of the Force, as well as other law enforcement agencies. United States Park Police officers are expected to regularly work with state, local and federal partners to enhance safety and reduce crime.

Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/31/2025-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. Applicants must have reached their 21st birthday, but not have reached their 37th birthday by the date of application to this position. These positions are covered by the special retirement provisions for Federal Law Enforcement officers and have a mandatory retirement age of 57. Two exceptions are allowed:1. EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one year of progressively responsible experience that demonstrates the ability to learn and apply detailed and complex regulations and procedures that involve making sound judgment based on the application of directions, regulations, or laws. Examples of qualifying examples include, but are not limited to: Work on a police force, service as a military police officer, specialized military experience, security guards, physical security, visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forest, or other natural resources or recreational environments, and/or criminal investigations; qualifying experience not immediately related to law enforcement may include, but is not limited to supervisory/managerial experience or personal work related experience that demonstrates the ability to independently manage critical tasks.

Physical Demands: The physical demands of this position require that all candidates pass an extensive physical examination, take a physical performance test, and meet the age requirements promulgated under the authority of 5 U.S.C. 3307. The incumbent must possess the psychomotor skills required to drive a vehicle in normal and emergency situations; fire a weapon accurately under extremely varied conditions; maintain agility, endurance and strength; and show dexterity in self-defense and apprehension (e.g. safely taking a person into custody with a minimum of force).
Working Conditions: The incumbent will be expected to work alone in areas where there is a probability that a person may be armed while attempting to commit a crime, and in an attempt to evade arrest, the situation may lead to an assault on the officer. Brief Description of Duties
Incumbent serves as a University Police Officer in Police Operations, the Office of Public Safety/Police and Emergency Management Services and the University of the District of Columbia. Daily assignments and duties are delegated by the shift (police) supervisor, the incumbent works under the immediate supervision and direction of the same. Performance is measured by results.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Preserves and maintains law and order; observes, reports, and responds to illegal and unauthorized activity occurring on university owned and controlled premises through enforcement of university policies, procedures and protocols, and the District of Columbia Official Code.
Safeguards University owned and controlled buildings, facilities, and premises. Responsible for access control through manual locking and unlocking of facilities and continual monitoring and inspecting.
Responds to various alarms associated with the protection of persons and properties.
Conducts preliminary and follow up investigations, responds to and investigates unusual, suspicious, criminal, and non-criminal activity. Prepares reports and conducts investigations by using proper interview techniques to include criminal and non-criminal incident reports, and vehicular and traffic citations.
Responds to and conducts motor vehicle accident investigations occurring on university owned and controlled properties, assists local law enforcement and emergency response agencies (traffic control) as needed.
Participates in community service activities, employs the practices and techniques of community oriented and problem-oriented policing.
Demonstrates safe work practices and procedures, maintains, and cleans equipment used in the performance of duties.
Responds to calls for service requiring the assistance of, and collaboration with, other local law enforcement and emergency response agencies (i.e., natural disaster, environmental hazards, or risks; fire, medical emergencies).

Perform the essential work tasks of a police officer which includes being able to pursue, subdue, and arrest individuals, climb stairs, run, dodge obstacles, drag persons and objects, climb over and under obstacles, perform repetitive motions, walk long distances, sit for extended periods, and operate firearms and associated non-lethal weapons safely.
On occasions, works near or around mechanical rooms, laboratories, construction sites, extreme temperatures (hot and cold), adverse weather conditions (rain, snow, high winds, etc.), inadequate lighting, noises, and must be able to travel between various University locations and city sites (as needed).
Provides professional customer service and public assistance serving the University community and constituents to include students, faculty, staff, visitors, and the public.
Performs other related duties as assigned to include working in or assisting with the Public Safety Operations Center (PSOC) if needed or required.
Minimum Job Requirements
Successfully completed at least 60 semester hours of college credit with coursework in any subject from an accredited college or university: OR
Possess a combination of a High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of two years of experience as a contract security officer: OR
Served in the US military, including the Organized Reserves or National Guard, for at least two years on active duty and if separated, have received an honorable discharge; OR
Served at least two years in a full-duty status with a full-service police department on a college campus or in a US state or municipality and have resigned or retired in good standing.
Must be able to successfully complete the Campus Public Safety Institute (CPSI) of the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area upon hire if there is no previous law enforcement experience upon hire.
Must be able to obtain and maintain Campus Special Police Officer (CSP) status through the District of Columbia and meet the prescribed requirements and qualifications associated with CSP status to include firearms and other weapon systems.
Must be 21 years of age at time of application, provide proof of age with application materials and be a citizen of the United States.
Must possess (and maintain) a valid driver's license.
Successful competition of a Federal, State, County, Municipal Police, or Consortium law Enforcement Academy (of at least 256 hours of classroom instruction) or comparable training course that included instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations (must have been completed within two years)
May be required to successfully complete a physical assessment test.

Visiting Military Officer
FDD seeks a full-time U.S. military officer to serve as a Visiting Military Officer in its Center on Military and Political Power (CMPP). The officer must be able to commit to a 6-month or 1-year fellowship. Some officers can conduct short-term fellowships for as little as 6 weeks, depending on several variables. Fellowships can be in person in Washington, D.C. or a partially remote hybrid arrangement. The Office of Protective Services is a 24x7 operation. Police Officers are required to work nights, weekends, holidays, overtime,
and are subject to recall on a 24-hour basis. Police Officer candidates must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions,
and under strenuous and potentially dangerous conditions.
UNIFORMS AND APPEARANCE POLICY: NGA Police Officers are subject to uniforms and appearance standards, to include
restrictions on tattoos and facial hair. Tattoos, body art, or bands anywhere on the head, face, or neck are prohibited.
Additionally, any visible tattoo, body, art, or bands elsewhere on the body that are extremist, indecent, sexist, or racist are
prohibited. NGA Police Officers choose to have facial hair must be neatly trimmed, no longer than a of an inch in length.
Additionally:
1. Per the Lautenberg Amendment, applicants who have been convicted of domestic violence, or are under a restraining (protection) order for domestic violence are not eligible for employment as an NGA Police Officer.
2. NGA Police Officers are required to carry, and utilize firearms, in performance of their official duties in accordance with policy, directive, and law. Police Officers may be required to take their assigned firearms home.
3. Applicant must consent to and authorize NGA to perform a preliminary criminal and driving record background check via the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), National Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (NLETS), and Law Enforcement Defense Data Exchange (D-DEx) to determine employee eligibility.
4. Successful completion of an NGA accepted police academy is required in order to maintain employment. Continued Service Agreement requiring completion of 3 years' service with the Office of Protective Services. Officers that leave the DoD, NGA, or the IC prior to completion of CSA may be required to reimburse the Agency all cost associated with required training.
5. Applicants are required to take and pass a medical physical examination conducted by the NGA Medical Unit. Applicants must take and pass an initial, polygraph examination, drug test, and receive a favorable security clearance adjudication before hire. Agency Police Officers are required to take an NGA administered medical exam and fitness test annually and maintain a "pass" status while participating in random polygraph examinations and drug tests.
6. Applicants are required upon hire, to have a valid driver's license and must maintain a valid driver's license throughout their employment with NGA.
7. Applicants may be subject to a psychological examination conducted by the NGA Medical Unit as part of our pre-hire evaluation process.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

NGA utilizes all processes and procedures of the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Non-executive NGA employees are assigned to five distinct pay bands based on the type and scope of work performed. The employee's base salary is established within their assigned pay band based on their unique qualifications. A performance pay process is conducted each year to determine a potential base pay salary increase and/or bonus. An employee's annual performance evaluation is a key factor in the performance pay process.
This position is a DCIPS position in the Excepted Service under 10 U.S.C. 1601. Written Test:
The written test is scheduled and offered on an ongoing basis. You will have two hours to complete the written test. Passing written test scores are valid for six months or until the next academy is selected. If you do not pass the written test, you will be ineligible to re-test for six months.
Physical Agility Test:
You must first pass the written test before you are eligible to take the physical agility test. It is required that you bring the completed HCPD Physician's Authorization Form with you in order to complete the physical agility test. The physical agility test is comprised of three physical tests: sit-ups, push-ups, and a 1.5 mile run. Standards for each test are based on your age and gender, which are detailed on the Physician's Authorization Form. You are eligible to take the physical agility test as many times as it is offered within six months following your successful passage of the written test.
Oral Interview:
Upon successful completion of the physical agility test, you will participate in a panel interview. The oral interview is conducted by three Howard County Police employees. A series of questions will be asked of you concerning your experiences, abilities, and job awareness.
Polygraph Exam:
Upon successful completion of the oral interview, you will be scheduled for a polygraph exam. You will receive an information sheet concerning the polygraph exam explaining the polygraph equipment and exam procedures. The examiner will review all test questions with you prior to the test administration. You can expect the polygraph exam to last approximately three hours with a certified Polygraph Examiner.
Background Investigation:
If you are endorsed following the polygraph examination, your case file will be assigned to a Background Investigator. The investigator will make contact with you and will conduct various records checks, verify education and work history, and contact all of your listed references: family members, neighbors, and employers. This portion of the process takes an average of 4-6 weeks.
Psychological Exam:
If you are endorsed following the background investigation, you will be scheduled for a psychological exam. A trained and certified psychologist conducts the exam.
Pre-employment Medical Evaluation (this step follows a conditional offer of employment):
This exam is to evaluate medical abilities in order to safely perform the duties of a police officer.

General Job Information The Police Cadet Program is designed to prepare candidates for entrance into the Metropolitan Police Officer Recruit Program and ensures that a steady stream of District of Columbia youth are actively recruited as future police officers. Cadets are 17-24 year-old uniformed civilian employees, working part time for the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) while attending the University of the District of Columbia. The Department funds up to 60 college credits to enable District residents with a high school degree from a District high school or a GED to meet the college education requirement.
Cadets must earn up to sixty (60) college credits at the University of the District of Columbia Community College to satisfy MPD's police recruit entrance requirement. The program helps cadets develop the leadership and analytical thinking skills required to meet the challenges of their complex roles as problem-solvers, service providers, and professionals in the criminal justice system of the 21st century. Recruits will spend part of their time working specific job assignments to support the day-to-day operations of the MPD, perform rotating assignments among the districts and divisions, and gain familiarization with the daily operations of the Department.

Police Cadet assignments are designed to familiarize you with the Department's organizational structure and the mission and functions of its components.
