Salary for newly appointed law enforcement Border Patrol Agents varies from:
Base Salary: GL-9/GS-11 $63,148 - $120,145 per year
Locality Pay: Varies by duty location.
Overtime Pay: Up to 25%
Duty location impacts pay rates; locality pay for federal law enforcement is higher in some locations than others. A fully trained BPA may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with a grade level progression from GL-9 to GS-11 to GS-12. You will be eligible for a promotion to the next higher grade level (without re-applying) once you successfully complete 52 weeks in the lower grade level.
All Border Patrol Agents may select from an array of federal employment benefits that include health and insurance plans, a generous annual and sick leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan that is similar to traditional and ROTH 401(k) offerings. *Recruitment Incentive* Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents (as defined in 5 CFR 575.102) will be offered up to a $20,000 incentive. The first $10,000 will be paid upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, with the remaining $10,000 awarded for accepting a prioritized

Duties and Responsibilities:
As a BPA, you will be part of our 60,000+ workforce that strives to protect the American people by safeguarding our borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing the nation's economic prosperity. Being a BPA makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession.
Typical assignments include:
· Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
· Preventing and apprehending aliens and smugglers of aliens at or near the borders by maintaining surveillance from covert positions to include using infrared scopes during night operations.
· Interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry of persons or contraband.
· Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
· Patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways using a variety of government assets such as vehicles, horses, vessels, watercraft, off-road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles for the accomplishment of the USBP Mission.
Qualifications:
GL-9: You qualify for the GL-9 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
· Performing physical searches of detained individuals, their vehicles, and their immediate surroundings for weapons, contraband, currency, and other evidence.
· Apprehending, physically restraining, or working with law enforcement officials to identify or apprehend violators of state, federal, or immigration laws.
· Proficient in the use of firearms, preparing investigative reports, serving court orders (e.g., warrants, subpoenas, etc.), and gathering evidence for criminal cases prosecuted through the court system.
If you have previous or current law enforcement or military law enforcement experience, you may qualify at the GS-11 grade level.
GS-11: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, with the authority granted by the state or government to enforce laws, make arrests, and investigate crimes, performing primary duties in an official law enforcement capacity such as:
· Utilizing intelligence information to track illegal operations, criminal activity, threats to our nation, and/or contraband while serving as a state, federal, or military law enforcement official.
· Leading investigations of fraud, contraband, criminal activity, threats to our nation, and/or illegal operations to determine sources and patterns while serving as a state, federal, or military law enforcement official.
· Apprehending violators of state, federal, or immigration laws by utilizing various forms of complex technology that include surveillance, detection, situation awareness systems, and/or communications equipment.
The above experience will be applied in connection with the following: Make arrests and exercise sound judgment in the use of firearms; deal effectively with people in a courteous manner in connection with law enforcement matters; analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions; or develop and maintain contact with a network of informants.
There are no education substitutions for the GL-9 or GS-11 grade-level Border Patrol Agent opportunities.
Other Requirements:
Citizenship: You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position.
Residency: You must have had primary U.S. residency (including protectorates as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.
Age Restriction: In accordance with Public Law 100-238, this position is covered under law enforcement retirement provisions. Candidates must be referred for selection to the Border Patrol Agent position before reaching their 40th birthday in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Directive 251-03. The age restriction may not apply if you are currently serving or have previously served in a federal civilian law enforcement (non-military) position covered by Title 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) or Title 5 U.S.C. 8412(d).
Veterans' Preference: You may also be eligible for an excepted service Veterans' Recruitment Appointment (VRA). The age restriction does not apply if you are Veterans' Preference eligible.
Formal Training: After you are hired, you will be detailed to the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, for approximately six (6) months of intensive instruction in immigration and nationality laws, law enforcement, and USBP-specific operations, driver training, physical techniques, firearms, and other courses. Border Patrol work requires the ability to speak and read Spanish, as well as English. Border Patrol Agents will be provided training to become proficient in the Spanish language at the Academy.

Lead event teams conducting security screening operations at Academy Campus and external locations.
Support and manage mobile/hand-held devices for large-scale special events as needed.
Conduct special assignments related to awards season events.
Monitor activities and immediately report any observed discrepancies.
Communicate with local law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical services as required by the situation.
Operate radio communications as needed.
Schedule flexibility to support after-hours and weekend support.
Required Competencies:
A high school diploma or equivalent certificate of completion is required.
Must have a valid California BSIS guard card.
Must have at least five years of security experience; entertainment industry preferred.
Executive protection experience preferred.
Experience working at events and familiarity with security screening operations.
Ability to lead a team for security screening operations.
Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to work with all levels of personnel, Academy members, leadership, and the public.
Ability to de-escalate disputes and conflicts.
Intermediate experience with computers (Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) and ability to learn required systems.
Deep understanding of the functions of security systems and technology, including access controls and visitor management.
Knowledge of legal guidelines in security and public safety.
Detail-oriented, able to manage multiple tasks, and work as a team member.
CPR/First Aid/AED certified, preferred.
Reading, writing, and oral proficiency in the English language.
Ability to work overtime and late hours on short notice.

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Data Governance Officer is responsible for providing data governance/data management support to the data domains and business units. Under minimal supervision, the Officer will create data governance training materials, document procedures, process flows, as well as Enterprise-standard templates to be used in the execution of data governance requirements by the data domains.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Other responsibilities of the Data Governance Officer include:
Produce data governance dashboards on a recurring basis.
Manage documentation as well as remediation of key data issues.
Execute a reliable Second Line of Defense (2LOD) review and challenge process via documented processes, controls, templates, and rigors.
Contribute to the creation and maintenance of data governance documentation including (but not limited to) enterprise governance standards, related training materials, and compliance reporting.

Assist in the rollout of the Enterprise Data Governance Program

The next three selection components (Physical Agility Exam, Oral Interview Examination and Background Orientation) are all consolidated in one full day of testing.
2. PHYSICAL AGILITY EXAM: (qualifying) will evaluate each applicant's physical strength, agility and endurance in the following timed components:
* 1.5 MILE RUN The 1.5 mile run must be completed within 14 minutes to pass the City of Santa Ana physical agility test.

Laterals with active classic CALPERS membership or classic membership in another California retirement plan that provides eligible reciprocity with CalPERS, will qualify for the 3% @ age 55 retirement formula. This position is accountable as a team member to perform operational and support duties and services. Principal duties include general and directed patrol, investigation of crimes and non-criminal incidents, crime prevention, traffic enforcement, and other duties as required. Officers may be assigned to any division within the department. The following and additional duties are performed personally and as assigned by the Chief of Police:
* Patrols assigned areas of the City in a vehicle and responds to routine and emergency calls for service on foot or other means to protect life and preserve law and order.
* Performs duties in conformance with Federal, State, County and City laws and ordinances and initiates appropriate law enforcement action; interprets and applies laws, regulations, policies, procedures and precedents firmly, courteously, tactfully and impartially to achieve successful results in support of the Department's mission, goals, and objectives.
* Performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the Department; attends Commission, community and department meetings and represents the Department and City as assigned; makes presentations and speaks at public events. Performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the department.
* Works irregular hours including days, evenings, nights and overtime including weekends and holidays; must be available for call-back and automatic return to work with a reasonable response time during off-duty hours for major emergencies, disasters, critical incidents and as otherwise required.
* Demonstrates an extensive knowledge of the City's geography.
* Practices law enforcement procedures and techniques effectively including standard broadcasting procedures for the police radio system.
* Operates computers and uses a variety of law enforcement and common office software including word processing, geographic information systems, law enforcement databases, and specialized law enforcement programs.
* Investigates suspicious persons and circumstances; observes and accurately recalls places, names, faces vehicles, and incidents.
* Interviews, interrogates and records statements from victims, witnesses and suspects as a preliminary investigation of criminal, civil, nuisance and quality of life incidents; identifies relevant facts; prepares written reports that are accurate, comprehensive and written with correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.
* Reacts quickly, efficiently and calmly in emergency situations.
* Responds to major incidents reported to the Police Department; comprehends and uses the Incident Command System/Standardized Emergency Management System (ICS/SEMS) protocol; assumes the role as Incident Commander until relieved by a higher authority or other role as needed for the situation; ensures the safety of responders and others, the achievement of tactical objectives and the efficient use of resources.
* Applies laws, court decisions, Department and City policies, criminal investigation theories, etc. to collect, organize and analyze information and determine a reasonable course of action.
* Understands and follows oral and written directions; relates positively to supervisors, peers and the public; enforces laws that may conflict with personal values.
* Assists the public by responding to inquires, making referrals to community resources; provides public education and training in crime prevention, traffic safety, and other laws as necessary.
* Apprehends criminals, makes arrests, and collects and preserves evidence at crime scenes; serves warrants and subpoenas.
* Cooperates with other law enforcement agencies to investigate crime and apprehend criminals.
* Performs first aid, CPR and operates AED devices.
* Enforces traffic laws and issues citations; conducts tests for intoxicated drivers; directs traffic and investigates collisions.
* Appears in court to present evidence and testimony; responds to mandatory court appearances during irregular hours.
* Attends training assignments and maintains proficiency in the perishable skills of the safe operation of vehicles, proficient use of firearms and other weapons, weaponless defense and arrest and control techniques.
* Refrains from abusing authority, applies discretion, and assumes a command presence in conflict situations; acts with honesty, integrity, honor, courage, self-confidence, maturity, tolerance and stamina.
* Makes timely, sound independent judgment within legal and procedural guidelines and demonstrates a significant degree of initiative, reliability, good judgment and discretion to perform a community oriented, problem solving approach to policing.
* Delivers outstanding internal and external customer service, communicates effectively orally and in writing with the public and fellow employees; solves problems and supports the City's mission, policies, goals, and objectives.
* Exercises initiative, courtesy and independent judgment; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with members of the Department and City staff, other agencies and the public; communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
* Provides sound decision making skills and critical thinking to provide professional recommendations, decisions and completed staff work.
* Works cooperatively with personnel, co-workers and the management team; exercises tact, self-restraint and good judgment; takes initiative to achieve positive, timely results for the organization with diplomatic skills and ethical conduct.
* Conducts duties, responsibilities, tasks and assignments with a constructive, cooperative, positive, and professional attitude and demeanor.

Qualifications Include:
* High school diploma or G.E.D. Completion required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is desirable
* Possession and maintenance of a valid California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic Certificate with successful completion of probation as a full-time peace officer.
* If applying as an out-of-state lateral officer: Successful completion of a Basic Course Waiver process administered by California Commission on P.O.S.T.

* Current employment in good standing with a law enforcement agency of the United States, or departure in good standing from a law enforcement agency within the last eighteen (18) months.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD: 12 months
CLASSIFICATION: This position is covered under FLSA standards for overtime and is a member of the classified service.

Essential Job Functions
* Familiarization with all departmental rules and regulations as they pertain to the position of PoliceOfficer. Attend classes, participate in department training exercises, and study department materials to acquire and advance job knowledge and skills.
* Conduct criminal, motor vehicle and other investigations by securing areas, gathering and preserving evidence, interviewing complainants, victims, witnesses and others involved, taking field notes, collecting photographs, finger prints, affidavits, etc. Prepare affidavits, reports and court cases and present testimony in court for the above. Patrol specific districts on foot, bicycle or in a police vehicle. Assist in investigating suspicious activities and persons; make arrests for violations of state laws and city ordinances. Respond to emergencies such as motor vehicle accidents, crimes in progress, etc. Respond to complaints; investigate and attempt to mediate conflicts.
* Investigate traffic accidents, aid injured persons, determine if any criminal offenses have been committed and write appropriate reports. Direct traffic at accidents, fires, public assemblages and at busy intersections as necessary. Patrol parking areas and city streets, issue tickets and summonses for parking and traffic violations. Investigate crimes against persons and property.
* When assigned to uniform duty, maintain uniforms, equipment and weapons in accordance with department directives.
* Serve subpoenas, arrest warrants, citations and deliver emergency messages. Provide prisoner transport. Deliver court paperwork. Maintain positive public relations while enforcing the law, providing information or otherwise assisting the public. Document all actions in writing as per department and state regulations.
