The incumbent of this position is responsible for general duty police work which includes the prevention, detection and investigation of crimes and for maintaining and enforcing law and order. The position is located in the Lynnwood Police Department and is under the direct supervision of the shift duty sergeant.
Applicants hired as exceptional entry policeofficers will receive a ten thousand dollar ($10,000) incentive. Five thousand dollars ($5,000) will be paid following the start of employment. Two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500) will be paid upon successful achievement of solo status. Two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500) will be paid upon successful completion of their probationary period.
Following completion of the probation period, exceptional entry policeofficers will also be eligible for additional wage augments including educational premium pay and assignment/specialty pay as applicable.

JOB SUMMARY:
This position performs fully responsible, professional, general duty police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. After a period of formal and on-the-job training, employees in this class are responsible for independent law enforcement duties ranging from average to considerable difficulty and performed under general supervision of a sergeant or other ranking officer.

* Engages in specialized investigative assignments (e.g., Forensics, Drug/Gang Task Force etc.).

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in any and all property existing in the City of Bellingham and its environs. This involves working in a variety of environmental conditions and may require: walking, sitting or standing for long periods; running, climbing, jumping, or physical exertion in inclement weather; physical agility in slippery conditions, mountainous or uneven terrain, or in water. Officers work in unaccompanied automobile, motorcycle, bicycle or on foot patrol, maintaining contact with the dispatch center. There is exposure to high-risk situations which require emergency response procedures such as the use of masks, gloves, etc. to prevent contact with infectious diseases; and the use of protective clothing, equipment, firearms and other gear. The MCPD has 23 commissioned PoliceOfficers, One (1) Limited Commission Police Support Officer, and four (4) Support Staff. Our commissioned officers may have opportunities to participate in special assignments and regional teams to help grow their skill sets, including our regional SWAT team as an operator or hostage negotiator, K9 Unit, School Resource Officer, Traffic Officer, Corporal program, and more. The City of Mill Creek participates in the Municipal Employees Benefit Trust (MEBT) Social Security Replacement program. TESTING PROCESS:
Those individuals who have passed both the written and physical agility tests will have their information forwarded to the City of Renton by Public Safety Testing. A 70% on the written exam is required to move forward in the process. An oral board interview may be scheduled for the top candidates. Candidates must obtain an 70% passing score in the oral board to be placed on the Eligibility List. (Candidates that do not pass the oral board are eligible to re-test 90 days from the previous oral board date.) A combined (interview weighted at 70% and the written test weighted at 30%) minimum score of 70% is required for placement on the eligibility list. Veterans and Language Preference Points are awarded to eligible candidates who make the request and include the proper qualifying documentation after successfully passing an interview.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in any and all property existing in the City of Bellingham and its environs. Examinations are offered virtually or at physical locations across the United States, and the City of Seattle will pay for the exam. The required exam components include: * Frontline National (Law Enforcement) Exam * Public Safety Self-Assessment (Parts 1 & 2) You should receive your NTN exam results within approximately three weeks after applying and completing all components of your test (Frontline National and PSSA). Exam Notes: * Candidates are NOT required to complete the NTN Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) for the Seattle Police Department. * If you have taken the NTN exam for a department other than SPD within the last year, you can elect to send your scores to SPD at no cost via the "Department Add" feature in your NTN account. Lateral Oral Board: Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria for lateral policeofficer and successfully pass all components of the NTN test listed above will be scheduled for an oral board interview, which will take place virtually via Microsoft Teams. Candidates who pass the oral board interview will be ranked on an eligible list according to their exam scores. Backgrounding: Candidates who pass the civil service exams above will receive a link via email from the Seattle Police Background Unit to fill out their personal history information. Lateral Entry PoliceOfficer candidates are experienced policeofficers who have worked for other municipal, county, or state agencies for at least 24 of the past 36 months (post academy experience) at the time of testing, with full police powers and duties.
