The Patrol Officer is sworn to enforce all laws and ordinances for which the Department is responsible; to protect the lives and property of all persons; and to maintain peace and order within the Village of Mundelein. When properly required to do so the Patrol Officer will provide any service that is necessary for the furtherance of the Department's mission and objectives. The Patrol Officer will take the appropriate police actions, within the limits of legal authority, whenever and wherever required. The Patrol Officer will maintain professional decorum and will display a proper attitude in all dealings with citizens, superiors and other Department personnel. The Patrol Officer is expected to understand and comply with the orders, directives, policies and procedures, rules and regulations of the Mundelein Police Department. GENERAL APPLICANT INFORMATION Training Once hired, candidates will be subject to a field training process to be determined. Must be currently employed as a Full-Time Certified Police Officer. Prior Law Enforcement experience must include job duties and responsibilities similar to those of a Glenview Police Officer. Substantiation of having passed most recent law enforcement Field Training Program. If a Law Enforcement employer does not have a formal Field Training program, an official letter from the highest ranking member of the department (most commonly the Chief), stating the applicant has met the department's training requirements may be accepted. Additionally, this requirement may be waived by the Board in circumstances where the verified years of service with a law enforcement employer support the completion of the Field Training program. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt OPRF - WHO WE ARE… Oak Park and River Forest High School, or OPRF, is a comprehensive public high school located in Oak Park, Ill., a suburb eight miles due west of downtown Chicago. We are a one-school district, with the majority of our students coming from two sender districts, River Forest Public Schools District 90 and Oak Park Elementary School District 97. We offer more than 200 courses, a variety of programs for students with special needs, 75 clubs and activities, and 29 competitive sports. We prepare our students well for post-secondary success, with an average ACT composite score of 24 and a 94% graduation rate. Oak Park and River Forest are communities that highly value diversity. Law enforcement classes or training preferred. Qualifications: 1. Must be at least 21 years old. 2. Experience with adolescents required; human services work experience desirable. 3. Must successfully attend and complete mandatory training including ICS (series 300, 400 and 800) if designated to participate. 4. Must attend designated training and professional development and expected to work during the senior graduation ceremony. 5. Must demonstrate the following: a. Ability to maintain composure in volatile situations. b. Ability to reduce the level or intensity of a difficult or dangerous situation. c. Mastery of interpersonal skills in communicating with students, faculty/staff, parents, & community members and law enforcement/fire/medical personnel. d. Ability to maintain a positive and cooperative working relationship with supervisor(s), SIDS, administrators and any other contacts associated with the position. e. Good physical condition; able to run, stand for long periods of time, and run up stairs quickly in responding to calls for assistance. f. Must be strong enough to physically restrain a student if necessary. g. After the job is offered, candidate must have physician's certification to physical ability to perform rigors of position before appointment receives final approval. h. Must have a valid Driver's License. i. Ability to work independently and to make quality judgments that meet the needs of the school community. j. A core system of personal values and integrity that will support the work and focus of school community and assist ensuring safety of students, staff and visitors. k. Highly organized, detail orientated, adaptable to change, capable of handling/prioritizing multiple tasks, people oriented, and comfortable using standard business technology. l. Strong understanding of emergency procedures are essential with a solid working knowledge of current technology available to support the work. m. Culturally competent with the ability to establish and maintain good working relations with a diverse group of people. n. Ability to work overtime when necessary. Position Summary: Monday - Friday Daily supervision of students, school building, grounds and perimeter of school in concert with other security personnel, under the direction of supervisor(s), to ensure safety of pupils, personnel, visitors, and property, as well as maintenance of OPRFHS Code of Conduct and other applicable rules. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Supervise interior and exterior of school, grounds, and in concert with other security personnel as assigned. 2. Promote and maintain consistency among all security personnel in approaching individuals and in referring students to the Student Intervention Director for school rule infractions. 3. Responsible for securing valuable lost and found items including securing and logging items and returning items when individuals appear to reclaim. 4. Respond to requests for assistance whenever on duty. 5. Investigate all student misconduct and complaints made against non-students. 6. Refer all concerns and findings to Director of Campus Safety. 7. Responsible for assigning and accessing lockers; all related documentation 8. Prepares written incident reports or other reports as necessary. 9. Using the Degree Point System when patrolling the campus. 10. Experienced in working with Easy Lobby System. 11. Escort students to the community library to assure safety and security of students and the community 12. Experienced in Easy Lobby System 13. May be required to work extended hours as needs arise 14. Responsible for delivering discipline letters within the community using the District's security vehicle. Requires knowledge of the Oak Park and River Forest area for delivering Discipline Letters. 15. Provide coverage of the in-school suspension room when necessary 16. Other duties as assigned.
