Make work schedules, make schedules for coverage of details and security patrol at University Apartments. Knowledge of computer programs used for training other students and scheduling. Essential Functions
* Receives eight weeks of formalized pre-service security training at the Illinois Corrections Training Academy including firearms training due to requirements mandating qualification.
* Receives on-the-job training under immediate supervision of a qualified correctional employee. A

Minimum Qualifications
* Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
* Requires elementary knowledge of resident behavior problems.
Conditions of Employment
* Requires completion of a pre-service security training course during trainee period.
* Requires successful completion of a firearms training course and learn the proper use of firearms during trainee period.

Incumbent serves as Correctional Officer for the Vigo County Jail, responsible for maintaining security and order within the jail facility.
Examples of Duties
Enforces local, state, and federal laws by implementing effective policy to protect the lives and property of the people.
Maintains interior and exterior security of Jail, including monitoring surveillance cameras, operating electronic and digital door controls, monitoring detainee activities, and conducting watch tours/patrols. Maintains accurate accounting of all detainees, conducting periodic cell checks, shakedowns, roll calls, and head counts of detainees in assigned areas.
Performs booking procedures of individuals being detained, including photographing, fingerprinting, entering required information in computer, completing required forms and intake reports, receiving and receipting money and personal property, and searching detainees for weapons and contraband. Registers sex offenders as required.
Oversees detainees in allowable activities, such as telephone calls, commissary purchases, counsel, and family visitations. Distributes daily meals and ensures all trays are removed from cellblocks. Ensures personal hygiene of detainees and cleanliness of cell areas, accounting for all personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, laundry, and equipment issued to detainees.
Provides detainees with prescribed medications according to orders of physician. Follows Department procedures to ensure detainees receive proper medical attention.
Ensures compliance with facility rules and regulations, including recording and reporting inappropriate behavior to appropriate Department personnel and taking necessary action to correct any problems that arise. Properly secures and/or physically restrains violent and uncontrollable detainees as situations demand.

Responds to detainee grievances following established chain of command procedures.
Maintains and updates institution logs, incident reports, daily activity reports, booking/release records, and medical records. Submits all reports and summaries of activities according to established Department deadlines.

A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:

Oversees detainees in allowable activities, such as telephone calls, commissary purchases, counsel, and family visitations. Distributes daily meals and ensures all trays are removed from cellblocks. Ensures personal hygiene of detainees and cleanliness of cell areas, accounting for all personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, laundry, and equipment issued to detainees.
Provides detainees with prescribed medications according to orders of physician. Follows Department procedures to ensure detainees receive proper medical attention.

Essential Functions
* Receives eight weeks of formalized pre-service security training at the Illinois Corrections Training Academy including firearms training due to requirements mandating qualification.
* Receives on-the-job training under immediate supervision of a qualified correctional employee. A
* Assigned each work week to another correctional employee to assist in running lines, yard, dining room, housing units, facility buildings, writs, observing individuals in custody, perimeter patrol, armory, counting, shakedowns, movement, etc.
* Travels by using a state issued vehicle to complete assignments.
* Receives one week orientation at facility.
* Given formal training in housing unit work, report writing, out-count work, yard work, running lines, individuals in custody at this institution and their assignments, chain-of-command, security buildings, disciplinary procedures, and any other training deemed necessary.
* Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
* Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
* Requires elementary knowledge of resident behavior problems.
Conditions of Employment
* Requires completion of a pre-service security training course during trainee period.
* Requires successful completion of a firearms training course and learn the proper use of firearms during trainee period.
* Requires a valid appropriate driver's license and the ability to travel statewide.
* Must be eligible under federal and state law to acquire and possess a firearm and must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card.
* Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
* Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
* Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
* Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.; shift and days off will vary

The Wabash Valley Correctional Facility is a multi-level security Correctional facility for adult males. The Wabash Valley Correctional Facility is located in Carlisle, Indiana. The Wabash Valley Correctional Facility has both minimum security and maximum security and offers multiple programs to meet the needs of the incarcerated population, including the Special Needs Acclimation Program or SNAP. Role Overview:
As a Correctional Officer at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility, you will be responsible for working as a part of a team in a multi-level security Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) facility for adult males. During a typical 12 hour shift, you will maintain the security of the unit as well as the safety of staff and incarcerated individuals, while ensuring daily activities and programs proceed on schedule. During the 2 week pay period, Correctional Officers will work 85.75 hours. This consists of 7 total shifts, including 1 weekend.
Salary:
This position starts at a $22/hour base pay + $2/hour of differential pay, equating to $2,058.00 biweekly or $53,508.00 annually. Candidates with relevant experience may qualify for a higher base pay. These figures do not account for any overtime pay an employee may earn.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
* Monitor assigned areas at various intervals for security of incarcerated individuals, count of incarcerated individuals, and security of buildings and grounds.
* Follow and ensure compliance with established security procedures.
* Manage incarcerated individuals in various work details including general clean-up of institutional grounds and buildings.
* Escort incarcerated individuals to and from various locations across the facility for food, medicines, work assignments, and recreation.
* Keep records and make reports on such matters as incarcerated individuals movements, activities, and rule violations.
* Search incarcerated individuals housing areas and visitors for possible unauthorized items.

What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
Difficulty of Work:
Your work is physically, emotionally and mentally demanding. As a Correctional Officer you must maintain constant vigilance for periods of up to sixteen (16) hours at a time. The environment tends to be stressful with a threat of physical harm or injury to oneself, coworkers, incarcerated individuals and/or the general public due to errors in judgement.
Physical Effort:
Depending on the duties performed or environment setting, frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs or ladders, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and/or similar movements may be involved.
This role requires keen observational and hearing skills to stay alert for possible dangerous situations.
