Assume special responsibilities on assignment by the Chief of Police and his/her designee, the VP of Operations, or the President. Engage the campus community in crime and safety prevention. Conduct full investigations on cases. Conducting foot patrols in and around academic buildings to identify and address security and safety issues. Foot patrols in and around occupied as well as unoccupied dorm buildings to check for security and safety issues. Minimum Qualifications: Certified in the State of Virginia as Police Officer; knowledge in community policing techniques; general knowledge of the rules of evidence and laws of search and seizure; ability to deal effectively with young adults; ability to analyze evidence; ability to properly question and interview individuals; ability to organize and prepare clear and concise oral and written reports; skilled in the use of firearms and police equipment; possession of physical ability and endurance; ability to establish effective working relationships with students, parents, school officials, fellow workers and the public.
