Primary Functions:
A deputy sheriff in this position is required to meet the primary duties of the pursuit, apprehension and arrest of law violators or suspected law violators and maintain same apprehension of suspects, inmates/prisoners or trustees during transportation.

The Part-Time Deputy Sheriff is a paid part-time Law Enforcement Officer appointed by the Sheriff. The Part-Time Deputy Sheriff is a sworn member who possesses all the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities incumbent upon the position of an entry level deputy sheriff.

General Statement of Job Under occasional supervision, performs responsible law enforcement functions as assigned, including enforcing federal and state laws and local ordinances. Exercises independent judgment and is totally accountable for executing all duties ethically and within the confines of the law and the established policies of the Kissimmee Police Department. Participates in special unit activities or programs as assigned. Reports to assigned Sergeant.
Essential Functions:
Responds to emergency or high-risk situations; participates in criminal and other investigations. Performs general law enforcement duties, including patrolling assigned areas, checking property for security, maintaining order and public safety, responding to traffic accidents/incidents and issuing citations, apprehending and arresting suspects, questioning suspects, assisting crime and accident victims, investigating alarms, collecting evidence, taking statements, etc.
Participates in special unit activities and/or programs as assigned, which may include performing duties as a school resource officer, community police officer, DARE officer and/or tactical officer.
Serves warrants, summonses, subpoenas and other official papers.
Books and processes prisoners.
Prepares cases for prosecution; provides court testimony as required.
Performs various public service duties, including directing traffic at school crossings and during special events, providing police escort, assisting stranded motorists, providing security at City events, providing traffic control, etc.
Reports all conditions which may affect community safety, including lighting changes, pedestrian and traffic obstacles, hazardous conditions, traffic lights, etc.
Promotes crime prevention and safety theories and practices that can be implemented in
communities to deter criminal activity. Plans and/or participates in safety / educational programs and presentations at local businesses, schools and community events.
Receives and responds to citizen inquiries, complaints and requests for assistance; refers public to persons or agencies which can provide further assistance as required.
Works under stressful, high-risk conditions.
Remains abreast of all federal and state laws, and ordinances of the city of Kissimmee. Maintains assigned equipment and vehicle.
Maintains required level of proficiency in the use of firearms; maintains physical fitness in accordance with department standards.
Participates in field training.
Attends various meetings as required.
Promotes a favorable image of the City and Police Department by acting in a responsive and professional manner with members of the media, citizens and outside agencies as applicable.
Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and reports including routine reports, incident reports, accident reports, citations, arrest warrants, search warrants, subpoenas, affidavits, memos, correspondence, etc.
Operates a police vehicle, firearms, restraining devices, two-way radio, radar protective gear, and other police-issued equipment, as well as a variety of other equipment including a computer, telephone, calculator, camera, tape recorder, etc. Exercises care and safety in the use of equipment required to complete assigned tasks.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, City personnel, court personnel, attorneys, other law enforcement agencies, various government agencies, community leaders and organizations, medical personnel, suspects, victims, witnesses, and the general public.
Additional Job Functions:
Processes crime scenes.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Education and Training
An A.A. or A.S. degree in criminal justice is preferred, supplemented by completion of required law enforcement instruction and training, or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must maintain firearms proficiency, be physically qualified and maintain physical fitness in accordance with department standards. Must possess and maintain state certification in law enforcement. May require certification in NCIC/FCIC operation and others as deemed appropriate by supervisors. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License as required. Must submit to, and pass, a fingerprint-based national criminal history record check and must be able to obtain, and recertify as required, the appropriate Criminal Justice Security Awareness training. Must possess or obtain the most current FEMA 100, 200, and 700 Incident Command System certifications within 6 months of appointment to the job.
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
Schedule: Position requires at least 40 hours per week and may require working a rotating schedule.
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including firearms, automobile, office equipment, radio, telephone, etc. Must be able to exert up to thirty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, walk, run. Must be physically fit and able to defend one's self from attack or physical assault. Must be able to restrain, lift and/or carry adults of varying weights.

The base salary range for this position is $87,158.54 - $100,736.42. The salary listed above includes a 4% first responder supplement and a $500 bi-weekly aviation supplement. This position requires you to be a Florida Certified Law Enforcement Officer. If you are not a Florida Certified Law Enforcement Officer, and you are successful with the selection process, you must be willing to be hired as a Law Enforcement Cadet at a reduced salary ($2187.04 biweekly) and attend a 5 month police academy at Broward College. Upon successful completion of police academy and Florida state exam you will be deemed a Certified Law Enforcement Officer in the state of Florida. Salary will increase to step 1 of the Deputy Sheriff range ($61,969 annually). CADET I/II:
Under general supervision, the purpose of the Cadet position is to prepare a non-certified applicant (Cadet) for a career in law enforcement. While in the Cadet I/Cadet II status, the applicant participates and engages in formal and in-house training. The work activities are specifically designed and chosen to train and indoctrinate the individual in the field of law enforcement.
The selected applicant agrees to perform work as assigned by the Administration OIC or their designee.
The overall premise of the Cadet I or Cadet II position is to advance to be selected to attend the Law Enforcement Academy, when eligible (at the ECSO's discretion, minimum age of 21). This class is assigned to perform crime prevention and investigation activities. Reserve/Part-time Law Enforcement Deputies have full arrest authority, but can exercise those powers only during specific tours of duty or in response to violent crimes in progress in plain view. Reserve/Part-time Deputies are specifically prohibited from enforcing traffic laws when not on duty.
Reserve/Part-time Deputies are bonded with the same coverage provided to full-time Deputies and are eligible for the agency's death and injury benefits.
In accordance with Chapter 943.135, Florida Statutes, if you are authorized by the Sheriff to belong to the Part-time/Auxiliary Unit, you will be required to complete 40 hours of mandatory retraining every four years to include all mandated in-service training to maintain your certification after separation from the Escambia County Sheriff's Office. This training is necessary to maintain registration with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office through FDLE. Approval to be registered with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office will be made by the Sheriff on a case-by-case basis.
It will be the responsibility of the Reserve/Part-time Deputy to periodically contact the Training Section to review the courses being offered in order to comply with the requirements for mandatory retraining and in-service training.
The Reserve/Part-time Deputy will be required to volunteer a MINIMUM of 16 hours per month in a law enforcement capacity and must attend a MINIMUM of 70% of the mandatory monthly Reserve/Part-time meetings for the calendar year. The Reserve/Part-time Deputy is also subject to emergency call-out beyond the mandatory volunteer hours during times of need ordered by the Sheriff.

This class involves law enforcement work in protecting the public and preserving the peace while serving in a variety of assignments within the Sheriff's Office. The work involves responsibility for carrying out assigned duties in the areas of road patrol, marine patrol, beach security, criminal investigations, internal affairs, civil process, transportation, public information, traffic enforcement, training, court security, airport security, career development, internal affairs investigations, school resource officer, or other areas deemed appropriate by supervisors. Positions in this class typically operate singly, but may operate with others. Deputies interpret and enforce all applicable laws and ordinances in the State of Florida, Monroe County, and other applicable statutes, general orders, special instructions, and policies and procedures of the Sheriff's Office. Unusual situations and serious matters are referred to supervisors for action or guidance. Work is performed under general supervision of a Commander, Director or Supervisor who reviews work through reports, conferences, inspections, and observations of actions and results.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
High school diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Academy or prior law enforcement or other criminal justice experience.
JOB COMPLEXITY:
Individual must apply knowledge of law enforcement procedures as they relate to the interpretation and enforcement of all applicable laws and ordinances.
CONSEQUENCE OF ACTIONS:
Individual may be required to make decisions and handle unusual situations independently.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs patrol duties to prevent and detect violations of the law.
Must be able to meet physical requirements and standards.
Must be able to work days, nights, week-ends, holidays and extra shifts.
Responds to numerous emergency and routine calls from the public ranging from domestic complaints, accidents, fires and criminal actions in progress; assists in settling complaints, arrests offenders, collects and preserves evidence, prepares reports and testifies in court as required.
Responds to traffic accidents and may be required to assists other law enforcement agencies with traffic incidents. May be required to arrange for ambulances to assist sick and/or injured.
Responds to marine incidents/accidents and may be required to assists other law enforcement agencies with marine incidents. May be required to arrange for ambulances to assist sick and/or injured.
Represents the State of Florida in requested or mandatory court hearings or judicial proceedings at traffic, misdemeanor or felony level.
Must be able to work during the event of all emergency situations such as Hurricanes, etc.
Assists citizens in preparing criminal affidavits in conjunction with the complaints of criminal activity.
Initiates criminal investigations from information developed from sources other than the ordinary citizen complaint.
Investigates crime scenes, collects and preserves evidence, develops prints, photographs, sketches and descriptions of scenes; submits evidence to laboratories for further analysis; interviews witnesses and interrogates suspects to develop information and evidence in criminal investigations.
Conducts surveillance to gather evidence for search warrants in order to prevent potential crimes from happening such as burglaries, robberies and thefts.
Serves civil papers (subpoenas, summons, executions, and evictions) on citizens, law enforcement officers, corporate officers or others; makes personal contact with individuals at their home or place of business; processes papers for criminal actions.
Transports inmates to prison, the courts, or to health facilities; assists in the extradition of prisoners in other counties or states.
Provide information and statistical data and other related information concerning the Sheriff's Office.
Makes presentations to the public dealing with various categories of crime and crime prevention; establishes "crime watch" groups throughout a district to aid in the prevention of such crimes as burglary and assault.
Visits local schools and presents safety programs to youths.
While attending the Basic Law Enforcement Academy required to go through a defensive tactics training class - that includes hand-to-hand combat and defensive maneuvers on individuals 100 - 200 pounds larger. In addition, fire arm training - including shooting a semi-automatic (up to a 1000 rounds per day). Also, running, swimming and doing calisthenics will be performed during the Academy.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of law enforcement procedures as they relate to the interpretation and enforcement of all applicable laws and ordinances, particularly those dealing with civil and criminal processing, transportation of prisoners, public information, traffic enforcement, criminal and civil investigations, and road patrol.
Knowledge of policies, rules, regulations, and procedures governing law enforcement operations within the Sheriff's Office.
Knowledge of crime prevention techniques and the procedures for the collection and preservation of evidence at the crime scene.
Knowledge of the geography, physical and social characteristics of the Sectors to which assigned.
Knowledge of community resources and organizations which may be called upon in an emergency such as shelters for abused spouses.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have completed State-approved training and be certified as a law enforcement officer in compliance with the requirements of the State of Florida.
Must be able to complete specialized courses: Homicide, Criminal Investigations, Field Training Officer, SRO, Crime Prevention or any other training as required.
Must demonstrate proficiency in the use and care of law enforcement equipment, including firearms, vehicles, radio, radar and similar equipment.
Marine Safety Environmental Officer - Required to complete a Boat Operators Course (may be required to perform duties County wide as needed).
Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the State of Florida.
Must be in excellent physical condition upon appointment and maintain good physical condition throughout term of appointment.

Certified Deputy Sheriff that performs a wide variety of law enforcement activities specifically related to the school environment. Duties
During the course of their careers, Secret Service Police carry out assignments in protection. Duties include:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.
Requirements
U.S. citizenship is required.
Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license.
Must be at least 21 years old at the time of application and under 40 at referral. Exceptions may apply for those with current or prior service in federal law enforcement positions covered by special retirement provisions. The Secret Service has determined that age is essential to the performance of this position.
Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.
Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. Applicants must be able to hear the whispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without the use of a hearing aid.
Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
Complete 12 weeks of intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA or Artesia, NM and 17 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.
Certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so, if you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959.
