The Electrical Project Engineer is responsible for assisting the business in accomplishment of objectives by participating in the management of day to day execution of major capital and expense projects. Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, this position is responsible to ensure all strategies, capital planning, engineering, procurement, and construction is done in the safest and cost-effective manner and assuring that capital projects comply with all government and company standards, policies, and regulation. Essential Functions * Ensure all EHS regulations and procedures are incorporated into managing projects. This includes but not limited to contractors, vendors, and consultants. * Establish detailed project plans and metrics, work plans, schedules, resource plans and status reports. Identify project risk/gaps and create risk mitigation plans. Emphasis will be on HSE planning and compliance for capital projects. * Analysis of process & design engineering, optimization, preparation of PFD's and P&ID's, technology packages, basis of design documents, basic design packages, equipment specifications, capital and operating costs estimates and SOP's. * Provide project leadership, work direction, and feedback. Influence the work of others to ensure project milestones and deliverables are met. * Communication and reporting status to executives and all other key stakeholders e.g., Status Reports, Executive Briefings, Cost Reporting etc. * Provide Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) on selected business processes to assemble or provide input into the business case, including process improvement recommendations on quality, delivery, and cost. * Negotiating supply and service contracts with 3rd parties. * Providing technical support in solving issues in an integrated cross-functional team environment. * Supervision of 3rd party engineering contractors and construction contractors. * Provide analytical solutions to operational and maintenance problems. * Prepare specifications for the procurement of materials and equipment. * Prepare conceptual and detailed designs for process/control modifications and new technology. * Manage capital and major maintenance projects including schedule cost control, manage installation and commissioning. * Prepare contract documents and contract administration. * Carry out equipment inspections and surveys as assigned. Competencies * Strong oral and written communication abilities, including technical writing, budget preparation and presentations. * Self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team * Self-supervising within the guidance and expectations of direct management * Strong organizational Skills * Proven analytical and problem solving skills * Ability to read blueprints and other diagrams * Excellent computer skills with computer-based maintenance software such as AutoCAD, SAP, MS Office and scheduling software. Experience in construction management and/or maintenance experience in industrial/process plant environment. RESPONSIBILITIES Serve as the lead Electrical Engineer (EE) on assigned projects from pre-sales to final commissioning stage. Create designs which meet or exceed Vertiv quality requirements and fall within budgetary requirements. Design optimal UPS power systems and/or DC Power Systems based on customer equipment/IT loads. Design of switchgear configurations and control schemes, utilizing PLCs and/or relays, to accomplish automated transfer operations. Design of ground fault protective schemes, including those involving multiple sources. Generation of bills of material, and modification of standard assemblies as required to satisfy the application. Familiarity with Modbus and TCP/IP communications protocols, and RS-485 and Ethernet interfaces. Manage and Support contracted integration companies to provide a detailed Schematic Design(SD), Detail Design(DD) and Construction Drawing(CD) narrative for electrical design aspects of the solution Collaborate with other disciplines and external partners - General contractors or architects to create a construction document set. Work with Vertiv's business units, Business Partners and preferred vendors to specify the appropriate electrical equipment such as UPS, Switchgear, Generator, DC power system, etc. Provide detail sizing analysis of Standby Emergency generators based on type of loads - capacitance, inductance, motor loads, high/low inertia loads, UPS, lighting, etc. Work with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements and building codes. Review and approve electrical product submittals. Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to and during construction phases. Quality control during integration of electrical systems Support for all on site integration support Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to and during construction phases. Work with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation and performance of electrical systems. Travel to sites for site review and work with onsite field engineers, as well as provide engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits and start-up as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or possesses acceptable experience and subject knowledge Professional engineering (PE) License - optional Minimum 4 years of Electrical Engineering experience Knowledge of low voltage switchboard / switchgear design, installation, and use Knowledge of local, state, & federal codes governing the installation and use of low voltage switchboards/switchgear. Working knowledge in AutoDesk suite of Engineering software including AutoCAD and Revit Proven experience with Microsoft Office Applications Experience reading and interpreting electrical construction drawings and equipment specifications Understanding of the current version of the National Electrical Code Interpreting customer specification requirements. Experience/Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar educational background; 3+ years of hands-on experience in Automation & Controls Engineering or similar field Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Advanced control system engineering and programming of complex process tools and automation primarily using Beckhoff, Mitsubishi, and Omron PLC's, Windows and Linux PC's, C#, Python and SQL. Expert level troubleshooting of all facets of automated systems. Knowledge of manufacturing executions systems including direct experience integrating equipment data streams into factory information databases. Advanced knowledge of process control and implementation of real time data acquisition. Must be a self-starter with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to influence others and collaboratively gain consensus using supportive data. Ability and willingness to work hands-on. Ability to travel 10%.
