Performs complete and accurate patient appointment scheduling, account pre-registration and insurance verification functions either via electronic media collection or telephonic interview methods; works to provide patient information which maximizes reimbursement, achieves collection ratios, meets accounts receivable (AR) goals, and provides timely and through information to all other providers and users of patient data. Verifies insurance requirements, obtains and understands insurance benefits. Requests any non-covered patient collectibles such as coinsurance, deductibles, and copayments prior to service; Ensures that patients meet financial requirements; Provides general information to hospital users, patients and families; Communicates effectively to service delivery areas to maximize patient flow and customer service outcomes both internally and externally. Minimum Qualifications: 1. High school graduate or equivalent required. 2. Recent 2 years' experience in hospital or physician office performing primary duty as one of the following: Registration Specialist and/or call center operator, or utilize physician scheduling software on a daily basis. 3. Knowledge of medical terminology required. 4. Knowledge of patient billing, collection policies & procedures, guidelines and/or standards 5. Must have working knowledge to operate a computer in a windows based environment utilizing various software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook to produce and manage essential reports and correspondence. Must be able to utilize computer keyboard proficiently. 6. Demonstrates the ability to work with minimum supervision, ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form 7. Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain professional service oriented working relationships with patients, families, physicians, nurses, co-workers, supervisors and others. Ability to provide excellence customer satisfaction when presenting information and respond to questions from staff, patient and the general public. Ability to deal with confrontation and stressful working environment while maintaining excellence in customer service. 8. Demonstrates ability to analyze data, calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. This is a non-exempt, bi-weekly, union position working 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. * Installs, maintains, repairs, replaces and alters piping of iron, steel, copper, plastic or other materials as required to supply and operate heating, cooling, and ventilating equipment. * Installs, operates, repairs, replaces and provides preventative maintenance for heating, cooling, ventilating and pumping equipment throughout the campus. * Installs, maintains and repairs piping and equipment insulation as required. * Installs and replaces filtering equipment and media as required. * Adjusts operating components and controls as required to maintain efficiency of the heating and cooling systems. * Inspects and maintains/repairs hot and chilled water circulating systems throughout the tunnel systems. * Maintains and operates chemical treatment systems. * Assists management in planning and estimating of time and material requirements for campus projects. * Performs inspections of boilers, heaters, and elevators. * Assists other University employees in the performance of their duties as required by University priorities or as directed. * Maintains pertinent logbooks to document proper operating procedure of control utilities. * Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May supervise student workers and others assigned to HVAC crew. May be assigned to supervise other craftsmen in accomplishing HVAC projects. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. * Availability to respond to call-ins for emergency repairs. * Be self-directing and have supervisory abilities to direct others. * Skilled in use and care of hand and power tools common to the trade for cutting and fitting cast iron, lead, copper and plastic pipe, connecting fixtures and equipment, sealing joints, overhaul of pumps, valves, compressors and similar equipment. * Completion of apprentice program or equivalent work experience. * Working knowledge of safety practices and precautions and occupational hazards associated with the HVAC trade. * Basic knowledge of code requirements regarding general HVAC work. * Working knowledge of various materials fittings and equipment used in institutional installations. * Knowledge of institutional kitchen equipment such as dishwashers and garbage disposals. * Knowledge of water softeners, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. * Ability to work from sketches, blue prints and oral instructions. * Basic working knowledge of drive systems as found on pumps and air handlers. * Knowledge of welding, cutting, and fabricating metal items. * Working knowledge of hot water generators, trim requirements and methods, safety systems and precaution, and precaution of hot water generator and distribution system. * Working knowledge of absorption chiller, water tower and chilled water distribution system. * Working knowledge of pneumatic compressors and pneumatic distribution system. * Basic knowledge of pneumatic controls, thermostats, and activation devices. * Knowledge of elevator mechanisms. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED. Completion of an apprentice program in HVAC or four years directly related experience. Two years' experience working with hot water generators, trim requirements and methods, safety systems and precautions, and precaution of hot water generator and distribution system. Two years' experience working with absorption chillers, cooling towers, and chilled water distribution systems. Two years' experience in working with water softeners, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Refrigeration Certification required. Must possess and maintain a valid state of Ohio's driver's license and obtain Otterbein's Decision Driving Certification LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must demonstrate competency in verbal and written English skills including grammar. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must be competent in general math. TECHNICAL SKILLS: Must take pride in and be thorough in quality of work produced; Knowledge of elevator mechanisms, institutional kitchen equipment, HVAC code requirements, pneumatic compressors and pneumatic distribution systems, including pneumatic controls, thermostats, and activation devices. Strong knowledge of DDC and computerized energy management systems preferred. Strong knowledge of indoor quality issues (i.e., radon, mold, and remediation practices). Ability to climb and work from ladders, lifts, scaffolds and in tunnels. Must have supervisory experience. Ability to work from sketches, blueprints and oral instructions. Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs on a frequent basis. Ability and skill in using and caring for hand and power tools.
