Port Huron Schools company history timeline

1840

The first high school was probably built prior to 1840 on a site almost in the middle of Court Street, just east of Seventh Street.

1852

1852, a select school was formed by Mr.

1869

Four students were in the first graduating class of Port Huron High School in 1869.

1879

The Convent School of the Sisters of Providence was established at Port Huron in 1879.

1880

Tho schools were opened in 1880 with tho Sisters of Providence in charge.

1896

The Port Huron High School football team started in 1896.

1900

Baseball started at Port Huron High around 1900 with scrub games in vacant lots.

1908

Two years after the fire in 1908, the third high school was built on the same site as the former high school.

1919

In 1919, credit was first given for Music Appreciation and Orchestra.

In the year 1919, games were moved to the north end of Pine Grove Park.

1920

In the 1920's the Big Reds were very successful.

1930

Track started at Port Huron High around 1930.

1937

In 1937, the team won the State Championship.

1940

In the 1940's, the team won 111, and lost 88 games.

Cross Country started about 1940 at Port Huron High School and competed in the Eastern Michigan League.

1944

The first cinder track was at Memorial Park in 1944.

1949

In the year 1949, the Port Huron Baseball team moved to Memorial Park.

1963

In the year 1963, sophomores were selected for the first time.
