Job Summary: The NYU Program of Nutrition at Steinhardt and the Institute of Human Development and Social Change (IHDSC) are seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to support Dr. Angela Trude and the OPT-FRESH research team. This role will provide comprehensive involvement in all aspects of the project, including protocol development, data collection and analysis, manuscript preparation, and dissemination of study findings. The Postdoctoral Associate will devote 12 person-months of effort each year to the project, Data Management and Sharing activities, assisting the Data Manager with data curation and documentation. Project Overview: OPT-FRESH is a 5-year NIH-funded intervention trial addressing gaps in healthy food access among low-income families. Using the multiphase optimization strategy (MOST), the study tests three intervention components designed to reduce barriers to online healthy food purchases: 1) weekly text messages to improve trust in online grocery services; 2) weekly match of up to $10 as a financial incentive for purchasing FVL online; and 3) weekly instant shoppable grocery lists of tailored meal suggestions using SNAP-Ed recipes. OPT-FRESH will provide a unique opportunity to identify effective, scalable, and efficient strategies that could be used to reach the over 44 million people in the U.S., including six million children, experiencing food insecurity, thus addressing important social determinants of health that explain health disparities related to cardiovascular disease. Specific Responsibilities: Support the PI and research team in all aspects of study design, protocol development, and implementation. Conduct data collection, management, and analysis, including qualitative and quantitative methods. Assist the Data Manager with Data Management and Sharing activities (e.g., data curation, documentation, compliance with NIH data-sharing requirements). Contribute to manuscript writing, grant proposals, and dissemination of findings through academic presentations, policy briefs, and community reports. Facilitate communication and collaboration among investigators, research staff, and community partners. Support supervision and mentoring of graduate research assistants and student volunteers. Participate in regular team meetings, workshops, and events related to the project. Working Conditions In-person: meetings, recruitment, and data collection will be in-person. Meetings will be conducted in the NYU Washington Square Campus, where the Postdoctoral Associate will have a designated work-desk and computer. Recruitment and data collection will occur in the Bronx. Public transportation costs related to recruitment and data collection are reimbursed. Time Frame One-year position with potential renewal for up to five years. In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $62,500-$65,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer. Per NYU's remote-work policy, this position is expected to be completely in-person. This position will have some supervisory responsibilities, assisting the Project Coordinator in supervising at least 4 graduate student researchers and student volunteers. Qualifications and Competencies: PhD in Nutrition, Public Health, Food Policy, or a related field. Strong background in research methods, including study design, data collection, and analysis. Experience with Data Management and Sharing practices, including data curation and documentation. Demonstrated record of scientific writing and dissemination. Experience with community-engaged research, interventions, or public health programs preferred. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills. Sensitivity to racial, cultural, and economic diversity; familiarity with NYC communities preferred. Willingness to travel locally within New York City for recruitment and data collection.

The University will not sponsor applicants for work visas (e.g., H-1B). J-1 visas can be issued for postdoctoral research scholars who qualify. Job Summary The Postdoctoral Research Associate will conduct high-resolution numerical modeling, data analysis, and model validation in collaboration with a multidisciplinary research team. The position offers opportunities for independent research, publication, and collaboration with leading ocean scientists as part of a multi-institutional National Ocean Partnership Program (NOPP; *************************** effort. This full-time, 12-month position is supported by a three-year Office of Naval Research (ONR) grant. In recent global ocean simulation studies (Solano et al.,2023; Buijsman et al., 2025) it has been shown that supertidal (nonlinear) internal wave energy is enhanced in the tropics. The aim of this project is to understand nonlinear internal wave generation, cross-scale energy transfers, and non-linear wave-mean flow interactions in this region. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities * Develop and run high-resolution simulations: Set up nonhydrostatic numerical models (likely MITgcm) nested within regional NCOM simulations to study nonlinear internal wave dynamics near the Amazon shelf and in the Bay of Bengal. * Provide model data support: Share simulation output with project collaborators to inform observational cruises and mooring deployment strategies. * Validate and analyze model performance: Compare model results with TPXO, SWOT, and mooring observations to ensure model accuracy and consistency. * Conduct diagnostic analyses: Use advanced coarse-graining, spectral, and modal decomposition techniques to quantify energy fluxes and assess ocean mixing processes. * Collaborate with project teams: Work closely with scientists, postdocs, and students across partner institutions to meet project goals and milestones. * Participate in meetings: Attend and present research progress at weekly to annual project meetings, providing updates and exchanging information with collaborators. * Publish research findings: Lead the preparation of approximately one first-author, peer-reviewed manuscript per year and contribute as a co-author on additional publications. * Present research results: Disseminate findings at national and international scientific conferences. * Support project reporting: Assist with annual reports and other documentation required by the funding agency. * Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography or a closely related discipline, with successful dissertation defense completed no later than December 31, 2025. Candidates must have a publication record that illustrates the ability to conduct and communicate independent research and experience with running and diagnosing MITgcm/ROMS/oceananigans.jl simulations, diagnosing observational data, coding, time series analysis, and internal wave processes. The successful candidate will be required to pass a USM employment background check and a NASA background security check to work at Stennis. A remote work arrangement from inside the USA can be discussed. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSA's) * Comprehensive understanding of physical oceanography, including nonlinear internal wave dynamics and ocean mixing processes. * Strong understanding of coding, numerical modeling (e.g., MITgcm), and model validation (with TPXO, SWOT, moorings), and advanced data analysis techniques (filtering, fft, coarse-graining, modal decomposition). * Strong communication and presentation skills for disseminating research findings at conferences and in journal articles and project reports. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage research tasks, prioritize deadlines, and think critically and creatively to solve complex scientific problems. Prefrred Qualifications Experience in coding in MATLAB, Julia, Python or Fortran, setting-up, running, and diagnosing model simulations, diagnosing observational data sets, diagnosing internal wave energy equations, time series analysis (e.g., regression and Fourier analysis), and vertical mode decomposition. Additional Information The SOSE includes two academic divisions, Marine Science, and Coastal Sciences, and several R&D centers including: Hydrographic Science Research Center, Marine Research Center, and Thad Cochran Marine Aquaculture Center.
