Summary:
Tissue and Data Acquisition and Analysis Core (TDAAC) is a shared research resource at VCU Massey Cancer Center, which provides expertise and services for histology/pathology research. We are seeking a lab/research technician to carry out histology and pathology techniques. Under the supervision of the core director and laboratory manager, the technician is responsible to serve our client by following our standard of procedures and policies.
Typical Duties
Preparation of labels for sample identification (label cassettes, embedding rings and slides)
Organize, gross and load tissue into cassettes for processing and paraffin infiltration
Embed tissue in paraffin; section paraffin embedded tissue
Run automated H&E stainer
Communicate with clients about technical issues
Communicate with clients about the service they need
Track orders through smartsheets
Organize orders to prioritize the work
Maintain standard operating procedures and safety protocols
Complete billing and ordering
General laboratory and equipment maintenance including connecting with vendors and service engineers to keep the equipment running well
Perform other duties as assigned

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work as part of a team of scientists on coastal and open-ocean biogeochemical projects. The focus is primarily on the response of coastal and marine ecosystems to natural variability, climate change, and direct human perturbations. Research duties will include a mix of data analysis, numerical model development, and satellite remote sensing. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will present their findings at national scientific conferences and publish in high impact, peer-reviewed journals.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A PhD in Oceanography or a related discipline is required by the appointment start date. The candidate must have effective oral and written communication skills. The candidate must have a working knowledge of either advanced data analysis, numerical modeling, or satellite remote sensing methods for marine systems. The candidate is also expected to have expertise in ocean science, and a background in biogeochemistry or ecology is preferred.
