EDUCATION: PhD or MD. Proficiency in vascular physiology or a related field is required. EXPERIENCE: Experience in molecular biology, pharmacology and biochemistry fields related to basic and translational cardiac and neurovascular metabolic disorders. Previous research experience in cardiovascular and neurological sciences and animal models of disease is highly desirable WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends. The project includes studying the effects of oxidative stress on the physiological functions of cerebral vessels. Neonatal pigs are used as a clinically relevant large animal model of cerebral vascular disease and blood-brain barrier disruption caused by epileptic seizures and hypoxia-asphyxia. Placing particular emphasis on endogenous antioxidant cytoprotective mechanisms in the neonatal brain. Combine intravital microscopy of the brain vasculature with cellular-molecular studies in cerebrovascular myocytes, endothelial cells, and astrocytes to identify the mechanisms of neurovascular survival during oxidative stress.

It requires knowledge of rodent colony management and behavior, preparation of primary cell cultures, knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques, and a background in statistical analysis, and familiarity with statistical packages (e.g., JMP, Prism, R, or Python.) The position involves working independently and supervising graduate students and technical staff. It will require the ability to analyze and summarize results and present research findings in the form of weekly lab meetings, scientific conference posters and presentations, and manuscript preparation. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Doctoral Degree. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Meticulous record-keeping skills. Attention to detail and basic computer skills.
