The State University of New York (SUNY) College at Canton invites qualified applicants for a part-time, Academic Counselor position in the Liberty Partnerships Program Department beginning January 19th, 2026.
The SUNY Canton LPP program works with numerous school districts and community-based organizations (CBO's) to deliver academic, career, college, social and emotional support to middle and high school students to graduate and enter the workforce and/or college. This position is responsible for providing services to students in grades 5 -12 with the Edwards-Knox Central School District and Gouverneur Central School, who are enrolled in the partner school districts including outreach, administering program assessments, planning and implementation of lessons, executing retention strategies, and working closely with students and families.
Responsibilities
* Provide mentoring, tutoring, study-skill support, and social-emotional skill building.
* Lead college and career exploration activities and help students develop personal learning plans.
* Plan and supervise enrichment activities and field trips aligned with grant guidelines.
* Administer assessments, interest inventories, and social-emotional screenings.
* Identify student needs and coordinate referrals to community resources.
* Advocate for students and collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators.
* Maintain accurate monthly data reports on student participation, progress, and outcomes.
* Participate in professional development that supports student success.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
* Associate's degree in education, psychology, social work, human services, or a related field. Experience working with school-age children or equivalent.
Prior to a final offer of employment, the selected candidate will be required to submit to a background check including, but not limited to, employment verification, educational and other credential verification, and criminal background check.
