HBIO is a large undergraduate academic program serving a wide variety of students interested in health and biomedical science careers. The successful candidate will become part of a teaching team that is developing and implementing a new, innovative, core curriculum focused on biology, health, and community, with a specific goal of preparing HBIO students to address challenges in health, medicine, and the biomedical sciences. We welcome applications from candidates with a variety of experiences and disciplinary backgrounds including cell biology, biomedical sciences, molecular biology, developmental biology, discipline-based education research, and related fields. Appointment will be at the assistant professor level.
The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to collaboratively teach HBIO 410: Cellular Basis of Disease, a course in which students explore human cell biology concepts through the study of human disease. The course structure encourages students to practice scientific reasoning skills including building and interpreting models, learning the methods used to study cell biology, analyzing scientific literature, and communicating complex scientific information to a wide variety of audiences. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to at least one other course in our curriculum; HBIO 295: Human Biology and Society, an introductory course that focuses on societal impacts on disease and health information literacy or HBIO 495: Capstone in Human Biology, an upper-level course that focuses on science writing and communication.

Minimum Requirements include:
* Must be at least 15 years old.
* Swim continuous 150 yards, tread water for 2 minutes using legs only, and swim 50 yards without stopping.
* Swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, pick up a 10-pound object, swim back to starting point on the back, climb out of the pool without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
* Sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods of time.
* Lift 150 pounds, with assistance.
* Work in extreme heat and extreme cold temperatures.
* Recognize an emergency and act upon it.
* Be available days, evenings, weekends, and holidays for a minimum of 20 hours per week (in the summer season only)
Required Certifications (must have or able to obtain - training can also be provided):
* American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification r.17 or r.24
* American Red Cross Bloodborne Pathogens Certification
* MI Mandated Reporter Training

Summary:
Develops and administers treatment as indicated by assessments and as prescribed by physicians under the direction of the assigned clinical instructor in order to provide quality rehabilitation services to clients.
Essential Duties:
Model appropriate behavior conducive to a positive working and therapeutic environment.
Observe all rules of confidentiality as they pertain to program participants internally, and in dealing with outside individuals and/or agencies.
Proactively initiate and follow-through with tasks utilizing appropriate problem solving techniques in order to facilitate communication flow and prompt resolutions.
Adhere to ethical guidelines set forth in the discipline the internship practices and in accordance with the State of Michigan regulations.
Attend clinical reviews and family conferences as appropriate, sharing responsibilities with the clinical instructor as appropriate.
Evaluate and document findings and prepare and implement treatment plans for clients in accordance with physician referral.
Record evaluations, daily progress notes, and discharge notes according to procedure in order to provide complete documentation for client charts.
Communicate client's progress to relevant stakeholders.
As deemed appropriate by clinical instructor, schedule client visits and complete portions of the billing processes in accordance to procedure.
Develop and upgrade treatment plan, independent exercise programs, etc.
Attend staff meetings, orientation, in-service training as assigned.
Contribute to the design and maintenance of effective and timely systems of documentation, including the collection and analysis of clinical outcome data.

Communication:
Physicians - in order to discuss client's progress and plan rehabilitation programs.
Team Members (therapists, living skills staff, rehabilitation aides, patient care technicians, etc.) - in order to facilitate client's treatment and discuss procedure.
External Stakeholders - in order to provide education and updates related in individual treatment plans.
Education and/or Experience:
The job requires knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be required by attending or completing the appropriate program to practice in the designated discipline. Level of education varies based on discipline and type of internship.
