Key Responsibilities Operate and monitor the steam plant during assigned shift and respond appropriately during emergency conditions. Regenerate and recharge water-conditioning equipment; adjust chemical treatment for boiler water, chilled water, and condensing tower water. Maintain detailed daily logs documenting equipment status, system readings, and shift activities; communicate all conditions to the incoming shift. Assist with inventory control, equipment rotation, preventive maintenance schedules, and repairs. Troubleshoot steam and chiller plant systems, identifying and correcting system issues. Participate in monthly emergency generator testing. Collaborate with Boiler Mechanics and facility staff to ensure safe and efficient steam/chiller plant operations. May be assigned to support multiple locations as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Required & Preferred Certifications Preferred: Third Class Stationary Engineer License (CCE), or High-Pressure Boiler Operator License through the Ohio Department of Commerce. Minimum 2 years operating high-capacity boilers (over 30 HP) and steam/chiller plant equipment. Internship experience may substitute with an active Third-Class Stationary Engineer License or High-Pressure Boiler Operator License. Military backgrounds such as Machinist's Mate (MM) or Electric Power Production (3E0X2) strongly considered. Knowledge of combustion controls, water chemistry, and water-conditioning systems required. Experience operating steam turbines preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to move or transport items, carts, and equipment 100 lbs or more. Capable of inspecting, installing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical systems and equipment. Ability to distinguish colors for equipment and system monitoring. Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas.
