AEP continued to expand on a smaller scale in 2001, with the takeover of the Quaker Coal Co.
Indeed, despite turbulence in the market, Dominion looked strong in 2002: the company had tripled its stock price in the past ten years and issued dividends to its stockholders for 297 consecutive quarters.
In 2007, as part of another effort to refocus on core electric and gas operations, Dominion sold most of its Houston-based natural gas and oil exploration and production business for pre-tax proceeds of nearly $14 billion.
In 2011, FirstEnergy expanded its customer base and service territory by completing a merger with Allegheny Energy, a Greensburg, Pennsylvania-based company that served 1.6 million customers in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia.
The beginning of 2018 saw the launch of IBM’s scale-out family of IBM POWER9 servers.
