Overview This position is responsible for performing, under supervision, challenging engineering work in PPL's Transmission Engineering Group. Specific job responsibilities include transmission line design (69kV and above) utilizing engineering software tools such as PLS-CADD, developing engineering packages for construction, project oversight of both internal and external engineering designs from Development through Construction, and interfacing with multiple functional groups to successfully complete transmission line projects and ensure ongoing reliable electric service to our customers. #INDPPL Responsibilities * Develop and maintain a safe environment for the PPL Transmission system to ensure the safety of co-workers, contractors, work crews, and the public at all times. * Performs engineering work on PPL's overhead (OH) and underground (UG) transmission lines. Supports Engineering Project Scope as directed by Supervision. Uses procedures to investigate, evaluate, and assist in producing safe, reliable, technically correct and cost-effective designs and engineered solutions. * Designs and conducts analyses of a variety of transmission line structures, conductors, and cables including wire sags and clearances, blowout, etc. Develop plan and profile drawings as included with the overall engineering package to successfully communicate the design from Engineering to the field for Construction. * Provides technical expertise on the design of Overhead and Underground transmission lines including associated structural components and equipment such as steel poles, guying, foundations, insulators, conductors, transmission line switches and reclosers, underground cables and duct banks. * Provides engineering expertise and technical support during the planning and construction phases of large, complex overhead and underground transmission line design projects including office work and field visits as necessary. * Oversees contract engineers and coordinates engineering activities across multiple engineering disciplines, work groups, and external stakeholders; including but not limited to: Project Management, Standards, Substations, Protection and Control, Surveying and Right-of-Way, Foreign Utilities, and PennDOT. Builds relationships that will facilitate knowledge transfer, cross functional knowledge of related work groups, and ability to present work products effectively. * Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using well defined engineering procedures, which may include routine and diagnostic testing of components and systems, and engineering studies. * Takes initiative to continually expand and improve technical and business skills. * Works under supervision in the field and/or home office in a variety of functions and challenging but structured work that develops competencies in the function/discipline. * Assists in a variety of topics which include developing innovative procedures, improved design recommendations and new or better equipment purchase recommendations. * Work with various industry and regulatory groups as required to learn and advocate industry best practices (e.g., EPRI, CEATI, EEI, NATF, SEE, etc.). * May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours and/or weekends, outside of your normal schedule. * Support enterprise-wide (PA/RI/KY) tasks and initiatives as needed. * Periodic travel within PA and occasional travel to RI/KY to support projects. Travel will also entail attending conferences and conducting benchmarking. * All other duties and projects, as assigned.
