Overview
This position is responsible for performing, under supervision, challenging engineering work but with limited direct responsibility. Specific job positions may include planning, designing, and/or overseeing construction, installation, operation and maintenance of components, systems and facilities used in the generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization of electrical energy.

Responsibilities
1. Performs engineering work on PPL's distribution lines. Assists in the work on smaller engineering projects or well-defined areas of larger projects. Uses procedures to investigate, evaluate, and assist in producing technically correct and cost-effective designs and recommendations that solve ongoing problems.
2. Develops technical expertise on the design of Overhead and Underground distribution lines including expertise in associated equipment such as transformers, protection devices, disconnect switches, underground secondary networks, vaults and manholes, and power line structural components (poles, guying, crossarms, mounting hardware, etc..)
3. Provides engineering expertise and technical support during the planning and construction phases of large, complex overhead and underground distribution line design projects.
4. Oversees contract engineers and coordinates engineering activities across multiple engineering disciplines, work groups, and external stakeholders; including but not limited to: Project Management, Standards, Substations, Protection, Surveying and Right-of-Way, Foreign Utilities, and PennDOT. Builds relationships that will facilitate knowledge transfer, cross functional knowledge of related work groups, and ability to present work products effectively.
5. Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using well defined engineering procedures, which may include routine and diagnostic testing of components and systems, and engineering studies.
6. Takes initiative to continually expand and improve technical and business skills.
7. Works under supervision in the field and/or home office in a variety of functions and challenging but structured work that develops competencies in the function/discipline.
8. Assists in a variety of topics which include developing innovative procedures, improved design recommendations and new or better equipment purchase recommendations.
9. May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours and/or weekends, outside of your normal schedule.
10. Lead and support assigned projects for Rhode Island Electric (RIE) and PPL Electric Utilities (PPL EU)
11. Support enterprise-wide (PA/RI/KY) tasks, and initiatives as needed.
12. Periodic travel within PA and occasional travel to RI/KY to support projects. Travel will also entail attending conferences and conducting benchmarking.
13. All other duties and projects, as assigned.

Job Summary
The Electrical Specialist is responsible for providing subject matter expertise in the support of maintenance, repair, and operation of NRG's generation fleet. This role requires a deep understanding of electrical theory, power plant design and maintenance, and the ability to work with complex testing equipment in and around medium and high voltage. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in power plant electrical maintenance and a strong commitment to safety and quality. This role will provide support to multiple types of power generation ranging from traditional base load fossil fuel, simple and combined cycle peaking, wind, solar, and utility scale battery systems.
Essential Duties/ Responsibilities:
* Ability to perform, or provide technical leadership during the performance of, testing and maintenance of protective electrical systems in electrical substations and power plants.
* Provide leadership in the development and implementation of test plans and procedures.
* Collaborate with corporate engineering, plant personnel, regional utility engineers, and contracted engineering firms in the design, implementation, and commissioning of complex electrical projects.
* Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
* Provide technical support and training to junior technicians.
* Ability to read, interpret, create, and revise power plant drawings, schematics and diagrams
* Provide technical guidance, support and insight in multi-year outage forecasting, maintenance and upgrade prioritization, and budgetary development

**Position Purpose:**
Senior Project Engineer - Performs & plans commissioning of electrical systems. Must be a self-motivated & energetic professional. Must have understanding of building electrical systems design & construction. Must have experience with commissioning process of electrical systems ranging in size, rating and complexity. The ideal candidate shall possess theoretical and practical knowledge in the commissioning, testing and troubleshooting of electrical systems and related controls. Candidate will be responsible for reviewing project information; coordinating and executing daily field activities; maintaining project documentation; assisting the Project Manager with schedule and planning of resources; and providing guidance to Project Engineers.
