    Job Description Lead Field Service Technician - PV/BESS The Field Service Technician - PV/BESS is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS). This role ensures asset reliability, maximizes uptime, and supports safe, clean energy delivery. Technician will perform preventative and corrective maintenance and will document work accurately through Scoop Solar or Salesforce FSL and collaborate closely with teammates to resolve issues efficiently-always prioritizing safety, PPE compliance, and professional conduct. As a PV/BESS Field Service Technician, you directly support the reliability of clean energy infrastructure and help create a world powered by sustainable technology. Technical issues resolved correctly the first time, minimizing downtime. Accurate, timely, and complete reporting in Scoop Solar or Salesforce FSL. Recognized as a dependable, safety-focused, and knowledgeable technician by peers and clients. Objectives Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on PV and BESS systems. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, mechanical, and software-related system issues. Ensure strict compliance with PPE, OSHA, and LOTO safety procedures. Accurately document all service work, materials, and site conditions. Support warehouse and operations teams with equipment readiness and feedback. Mentor junior technicians and support field performance improvement. Competencies (Technical s Physical Proficiency Checklist) To perform this role successfully, the technician must demonstrate the ability to: Electrical & Technical Skills Read and interpret electrical schematics, three-line diagrams, and system drawings. Perform AC/DC electrical testing using multimeters, insulation testers, and clamp meters. Troubleshoot and repair PV inverters, combiner boxes, transformers, and switchgear. Diagnose and service BESS components including BMS, inverters, and control systems. Execute lockout/tagout (LOTO) and arc flash safety procedures. Perform commissioning, system testing, and verification of PV/BESS performance. Configure or troubleshoot SCADA and monitoring systems. Identify root causes of performance loss using I-V curve analysis and performance data. Mechanical & Installation Skills Perform safe installation, torqueing, and alignment of racking and enclosure components. Replace damaged or defective wiring, fuses, contactors, or sensors. Inspect and maintain battery enclosures, HVAC units, and associated equipment. Documentation & Reporting Accurately log service activities in Scoop Solar or Salesforce FSL. Capture and upload job photos, serial numbers, and site notes. Complete required QA/QC forms and safety documentation. Safety & PPE Compliance Consistently wear and inspect required PPE. Maintain OSHA 30 and NFPA 70E safety awareness. Conduct hazard assessments and toolbox talks before each job. Professional Competencies Demonstrate leadership and mentorship with junior technicians. Communicate effectively with clients, project managers, and support teams. Uphold PPS values: Pride in Work, Progress, and Safety. Education & Experience Required: 3+ years of hands-on experience with PV and/or BESS systems. Proficiency in electrical systems (AC/DC, low and medium voltage). Familiarity with inverter technologies, battery management systems, and SCADA. Valid driver's license and ability to travel. Preferred: Journeyman or Master Electrician license. OEM certifications (Tesla,SMA, Sungrow, etc.). OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, or equivalent training. Knowledge of utility interconnection standards and grid-tied systems. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in outdoor environments. Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and around high voltage equipment. Capable of standing, bending, and climbing for extended periods. Willingness to travel to remote job sites and work in various weather conditions. With Design Build, it is critical that the Estimator have a strong construction building understanding and background, understand systems, methods, materials, and is able to evaluate the pre-construction plans and add details/clarifications or seek guidance and answers in a design assist model from key subs all with the goal being a competitively priced, non-contingency burdened, opposite of CYA budget. From time to time the Estimator may be required to provide pricing for needed work scopes identified late in sequence, or brought to their attention by bidders.
