Practical nursing instructor job description

Louisiana Delta Community College (LDCC) seeks an individual to serve as a Practical Nursing Instructor at the Bastrop Campus. The successful applicant must be a registered nurse licensed in Louisiana with the qualifications listed below who will teach both didactic practical nursing courses and supervise students in the clinical setting.
1. Teaching

* Teach a load of 15 credit hours per semester.
* Plans, develops, and uses effective teaching methods and materials which assist students in meeting course objectives, are appropriate for students with diverse educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles, and engage the students in learning.
* Classes may be day, afternoon, evening, and/or weekends
* Maintain regular office hours, grade records
* Respond to requests for information in a timely manner
* Attend and participate in faculty meetings
* Design and develop curriculum within state and accreditation body guidelines
* Provide support for associate faculty
* Assist in assessment and placement of students in appropriate classes
* Participate in student recruitment, placement, advisement, and serve on college committees
* Identify student learning outcomes: develop processes and tools for assessment; incorporate results in order to modify instruction and materials in coordination with colleagues

2. Professional Development

* Maintains high standards of competence in the discipline(s) and teaching methodologies through professional development activities.
* Reviews, evaluates, reflects, and revises program curricula and teaching methods through a self-evaluation process of self- reflection.
* Meets or exceeds professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, requirements of business/industry, and higher education, as appropriate to the discipline(s).

3. Service

* Actively participates in college meetings and/or committees, task forces, and councils
* Participates in college-related activities such as registration, community education, and recruitment of students, student retention, and faculty selection
* Participates in college activities for students/student organizations to aid in retention
* Participates in business and community activities that foster goodwill and promote the mission and values of the college
* Participates in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards
* Participates in setting departmental goals, in developing college budgets that support the goals, and in planning for achieving those goals.
* Promotes and maintains departmental affiliation agreements and other partnerships
* Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

A practical nurse instructor shall be a registered nurse with three years of nursing experience. At least one of these three years must have been as a medical-surgical hospital staff nurse providing direct patient care. An applicant for nurse instructor must have practiced as a nurse for a minimum of six full-time months during the three years immediately preceding application.

The successful candidate must also be service-oriented, promote excellence, and embrace a commitment to professionalism. Applicants should have demonstrated commitment to the philosophy and mission of Louisiana Delta Community College. VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, instructs or trains clients and/or students in a specific area of assignment as part of a program that includes an organized agenda of practical and workforce readiness instruction.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES:

* Adapts instructional methods and materials to meet student varying needs, abilities, and interests.
* Assess student's education and adjustment needs through direct observation and testing.
* Conducts classes, workshops, and demonstrations to instruct in principles, techniques, or methods in subjects such as language skills, life skills, and workforce entry skills.
* Conducts recreational activities with the goals of teaching decision-making, improving physical fitness, offering leisure options and teaching social skills.
* Counsel and instructs student in the habits of daily living and work routines.
* Estimates materials needed for inventory and specific areas, including cost.
* Instructs student through lectures and demonstrations of the methods and techniques.
* Plan and coordinates a comprehensive recreational program for facility population.
* Plans a program of practical instruction to meet individual and group needs.
* Repairs, adjusts and alters equipment and tools as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Associate degree in area of assignment from an accredited college or university
* OR Vocational/Technical degree in area of assignment from an accredited college AND One year of experience in the area of assignment
* OR One year of experience required at the lower level Practical Instructor 1 (EDT010) or position equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess all of the following:

1. Experience in developing, organizing and teaching classroom instruction.

2. Experience maintaining before and after test data and student records.

3. Experience in managing classroom instruction.

4. Experience providing literacy instructions as prescribed.

5. 2 years college or current Parapro Certificate and experience working with students.

Who You Are: The Practical Nursing Instructor (PN) prepares adult students for an exciting career as a practical nurse, certified nurse aide, or many health-related careers. In this program, students learn practical nursing skills through classroom theory and clinical application. The instructor teaches skills in the classroom that are applied in clinical settings such as hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, long-term care facilities, as well as physician offices, hospice, and home health care settings. We are seeking an adjunct instructor responsible for aspects of Clinical and Course Instruction including Maternal Child course instruction (45 hrs.), Pediatric course instruction (45 hrs.), and OB Clinical supervision (approximately 96-128 hrs) over a five-month span biannually. Instructors plan and deliver high-level, rigorous instruction to students in a trade area. Essential Functions:

• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that meet the district's curriculum goals as well as the individual needs of each student.
• Coordinate and evaluate on-the-job training as applicable for students.
• Translate lesson plans into learning experiences that effectively utilize the available time for instruction.
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
• Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare reports relating to students' progress.
• Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records.

Terms of Employment: Adjunct; salary to be established by the Board of Education. M-F, Schedule varies- approximately 20 hours per week.
