SUMMARY
The Assistant Controller is responsible for the processing of bills (payables and receivables), sales orders, inventory processes, and other accounting operational tasks.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Review bills for payment (match invoices with purchase orders). Check for proper approvals and authorizations. Enter and process payments. Generate checks.
Maintain vendor files.
Review bills of lading and sales orders for processing.
Enter shipments into accounting system for billing and maintain related files.
Assist with cash receipts to customer accounts.
Process customer credit applications and maintain related files.
Make collection calls when necessary.
Assist Controller in preparing tax and government reports.
Evaluate inventories and material costs at period end.
Assist Controller with annual budget.
Assist in preparing financial reports.
Complete and file government surveys.
Complies with all company policies and procedures.
Additional duties as assigned by manager.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Undergraduate degree with focus on accounting and/or finance
Four years general office experience
Proven ability to solve accounting problems, balance bank statements, reconcile general ledger accounts.
Candidates are PREFERRED who offer the following:
College level accounting
Experience manufacturing environment
PC competency (including MS Word and MS Excel)
Experience in using accounting software
Experience in cost accounting
Strong math background
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret financial statements, general business periodicals, professional journals, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees of the company.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, volume, and net present value.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Computer literate (MS Office including Word and Excel as well as accounting software)
Proficient knowledge and application of accounting principles

The performance of the Assistant Controller will be measured as follows:

Personal growth - Each year there will be professional goals developed and agreed to by the manager.

Position Overview
Reporting to the Controller, the assistant controller will review and enhance financial reporting, manage daily accounting tasks, and ensure compliance with regulations. Key responsibilities involve preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, assisting with audits, and improving internal controls and processes.
Core responsibilities
Financial reporting: Assist in preparing and consolidating monthly, and annual financial statements and reports.
Accounting operations: Oversee certain day-to-day accounting functions, which could include journal entries, cash management, inventory accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Identify and implement process improvements to improve efficiency and accuracy.
* Internal controls and compliance: Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure accuracy and prevent fraud. Ensure all accounting practices comply with legal guidelines, GAAP, and other established standards.
* Audits: Assist in preparing for and coordinating with external auditors.
* Analysis: Perform variance analysis and other financial analysis to identify and resolve discrepancies.
Requirements
* A degree in Accounting or Finance and passed the CPA exam
* Three years of experience in accounting or finance, with a preference for experience in the airline industry with exposure to maintenance parts inventory accounting
* Proficiency in accounting software, preferably Oracle
* Strong analytical skills and advanced Excel skills
* Ability to supervise accountingstaff, communicate with other departments, and explain accounting concepts to various levels in the organization
* Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
* Must meet airport badging requirements, including a TSA Security background check
* Must have a valid Driver's License and meet all company insurance criteria
