BAE System Maritime Soloutions Divisions is seeking to hire Pipe Welders from Entry Level to Experienced Backgrounds. 1. Operate, maintain and set up a variety of welding machines (usage and settings) as well as a variety of handheld tools on a daily basis.
2. Obtain various certifications for GTAW welding using a variety of metals (CUNI, Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel, Aluminum) with different fit-up requirements (Buttweld/Socket Weld) in various positions (6G/6G restricted, 4F and 5F)
3. Perform GTAW welding with the use of a hand remote in various settings/positions in the shop and on the vessels.
4. Conduct pre-visual NDT inspections prior to completion of work to minimize rework/pickups found by QA and operational testing.
5. Assist in helping other mechanics with different job task when not actively welding.
6. Work a variety of shifts (1st shift 6:00am to 4:30pm, 2nd shift 4:00pm to 2:30am) and weekends to support the needs of the shipyard.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
All employees will be required to pass a medical fit for duty examination including pulmonary function and vision screenings.
1. High School Diploma, GED or 3 years shipyard/marine experience.
2. Ability to read and understand blueprints and welding symbols.

Position Location: Chula Vista, CA
Summary: Using welding/cutting equipment and various power and hand tools, the welder performs a variety of shop and shipboard welding trade functions. These functions include the repair and/or removal of old structural materials, the installation of new structural materials and complete fabrication of complex structural, mechanical and equipment foundations. Works under direct supervision and performs related work as required.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Applies basic welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials.
Qualified in basic Shielded Metal Arc (SMAW) for various combinations of steel in all positions or Gas Metal Arc (GMAW) for aluminum (spray and pulsed transfer)
Works from blueprints, engineering sketches, and specification requirements to determine materials and construction process required to fabricate component parts to develop a complete unit as designed;
May position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools;
Knowledge of the processes and procedures necessary for the proper removal of old equipment and foundations with minimal damage to surrounding materials.
Maintain certification in the welding procedure(s) as required by Quality Assurance Manager.
Fill out Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) forms
Follow Quality Assurance welding procedures
Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

As our Nuclear Welder, you will weld a variety of metals completing welding details on materials ranging from heavy machined parts to thinned wall components using weld jigs, fixtures, special machine racks and frames, and like items.

Your Day to Day as a Nuclear Welder:
Perform delicate weld operations on very expensive components and assemblies and other difficult details. May necessitate the adaptation of available fixtures.
Work from specific approved procedures and complex blueprints. Work in close cooperation with weld engineer, weld inspector, and other authorized personnel.
Reads and strictly complies with weld blueprints, weld procedures, and work instructions.
Grinding to remove slag inclusions, excessive weld, burrs, or other pre-post steps required to make an acceptable weld.
Must become certified to all requirements of BWXT contracts pertaining to welding and/or brazing, imposed on BWXT both now and in the future.
Inspect all work using appropriate measurement instruments.
Refers all issues/problems to supervisor for disposition.
Completes and maintains all documentation as directed by work instructions and policies.
Cleans machine, tooling, and parts.
Performs machine maintenance, housekeeping, and other duties as assigned by supervision.
Follows and complies with all operation instructions, work rules, and safety policies.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or its equivalent is required.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in manual and automatic gas tungsten arc and/or shield arc welding, completion of an accredited training program will be considered.
Brazing and soldiering skills, preferred.
If necessary, be able to demonstrate ability to perform above skills on a test piece.
Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, procedures, and work instructions.
Possess skills necessary to maintain accurate documentation.
Ability to obtain and maintain all applicable written and operation examinations.
Ability to obtain and maintain all applicable certifications.
Possess necessary personal tools.
Must be willing and available to work any shift (2nd shift: 3pm - 11pm, 3rd shift: 11pm - 7am).

Assists Unit Manager in technical document review including shop instructions for welding consumable handling and material testing procedures.
Acts as the primary delegate for the Unit Manager of Welding Procurement when Unit Manager is absent
Establishes purchase requisitions with vendors through BWXT Purchasing department.
Oversees and tracks the purchasing of materials and services, ensuring all project needs and timelines are met.

Position Summary

Responsibilities
Including but not limited to:
Performing the following machine welds on 300 series stainless steels and certain high-performance alloys (Alloy 20, etc.):
Solid sheet to solid sheet (with or without perforations). Examples: wrapper seam, end ring seam
Solid sheet to sintered laminate. Example: safe edge
Sintered laminate to sintered laminate. Examples: Poroplate tube seam, Poroplate welded panel
Performing the following hand welds on 300 series stainless steels and certain high-performance alloys:
Tack welds
Weld repairs (HAZ and media repairs)
Circumferential assembly welds. Examples: Poroplate tube assembly joints, fusion welded end treatments
Backwashes
Performing shearing and forming processes associated with the preparation of materials for welding. Performing post-welding activities such as forming, swaging, grinding, drifting and inspection.
Ensure the following:
Inform supervisor or group leader of any problems with manufacturing instructions, drawings, processes or product.
Work environment is safe, cleaned daily and organized.
Adhere to all safety and attendance policies, procedures and work rules.
Clock properly and on the applicable job/operation per procedure.
Able to read applicable design drawings and follow manufacturing instructions.
Complete the Inspection Instruction/Record and properly tag material with an In-Process tag per FPS-QI-00005.
Able to utilize measurement instruments (tape measure, dial caliper, pin mic, go-nogo gage, pi tape, etc.) as required.
Trained and certified in the applicable paragraphs of FPS-QC-00060 & FPS-QC-00060-06
Certified to perform specified welding tasks as applicable. Recertification required on an annual basis.
Adhere to manufacturing orders per FPS-PC-00007 paragraph 9.4.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
2 or more years of general gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) experience. Some welding-related technical school training desired, certificate or diploma in welding technology preferred.
