Fairhaven is seeking an experienced full-time Cook to perform a variety of activities supporting the Food Services function. This non-exempt position is 37.5 hours per week (5:30am to 1:30pm) with some flexibility required.
Primary Function: Responsible for preparing and serving food to residents and guests. Assists with other Dietary dept. functions such as housekeeping and dishwashing when necessary.
Essential Functions:
* Has basic knowledge and understanding of various therapeutic diets and applies this knowledge in preparing and serving food.
* Reviews menu spreadsheets and conforms strictly to the requirements of the menu.
* Prepares and serves food by following standardized recipes and correct serving portions; maintains responsibility for the taste of food and makes adjustments as necessary.
* Plans cooking schedule so that food is ready at proper time.
* Works plate service as required by particular kitchen need.
* Checks food temperatures and records in log book
* Monitors and records temperatures of cold storage units.
* Supervises food service staff in the absence of Food Service Director and other supervisors.
* Makes sure area and equipment is clean and sanitized.
* Coordinates the transfer of meals to Supportive Care or between kitchens as needed.
* Responsible for supplements, food substitutions, and utilization of overproduced food.
* Responsible for appearance of food and garnishments.
* Participates in creating an atmosphere, which allows for the privacy, dignity, cleanliness, safety and well-being of each resident.
* Safeguards privacy and confidentiality of all resident health care information, which includes complying with all HIPAA regulations.
* Acts as a customer service representative and public relations ambassador for Fairhaven with residents, families, vendors, volunteers and other visitors.
* Interacts positively with all residents at all times creating an atmosphere, which promotes a homelike environment.
* Maintains, cares for and safely uses supplies and equipment effectively and efficiently per Fairhaven policies and procedures.
* Maintains sanitary conditions; follows infection control and waste management procedures as they relate to this position.
* Reports incidents of abuse, neglect or a violation of the resident's rights immediately
* Completes all in-service training requirements in a timely manner
* Completes all duties and tasks as assigned

Duties and Responsibilities:
Safely and efficiently use knives and other tools, utensils and equipment necessary to complete preparation of menu items.
Understand and follow the food allergy procedure and special orders/restrictions.
Read and use a thermometer correctly and efficiently.
Communicate any food delays or issues to Coordinator.
Maintain menu item counts and communicate to Management and service staff when quantities fall below restaurant specific minimum quantity.
Accurately account for all items coming out of their station.
Wear a hair restraint while on duty.
Move safely through all areas of the restaurant, which may include stairs, uneven and slick surfaces.
Promote teamwork among co-workers and employees.
Understand completely all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines and training programs.
Ensure that all products are received in correct unit count and condition and deliveries are performed in accordance with the establishment's receiving policies and procedures.
Communicate cordially, effectively and clearly with all employees, managers, partners, corporate staff and guests.
Must wash hands regularly according to guidelines.
Comply with all safety and sanitation guidelines
Understand and complete all side work as assigned.
Communicate in English in order to comprehend and perform/follow job requirements in written and spoken direction.

Desired Qualifications:
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must be able to communicate and understand the predominant language(s) of the restaurants trading area.
Holds a current Serve Safe (or equivalent) certification.
Have knowledge of service, food and beverage, generally involving at least one year of back-of-the-house cooking experience.
Must have the stamina to work 50 to 60 hours per week.
