1954

A significant recommendation, that a Mother’s Day offering be taken on May 9, 1954, for the “Home for the Aged” was also adopted at this meeting.

1956

The cornerstone of the Summerville Home (now the Village at Summerville) was laid in 1956, and two years later, the first residents entered the community.

1958

In January 1958, the first twenty residents moved into the Summerville Home.

Since 1958, Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina (PCSC), a ministry of the Presbyterian churches in South Carolina, has been fulfilling its mission to enrich the lives of seniors of all faiths.

1968

On June 4, 1968, Doctor Frampton was elected unanimously as president of the Board of Trustees.

1983

First Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Synod – an association which began in 1983 – and a member of Catawba Presbytery.

1989

In September 1989, Hurricane Hugo wrought similar damage to the sanctuary and set the stage for two more catastrophic events.

2002

An extensive renovation and restoration project was completed in 2002.
