Key Responsibilities
60% - Teaching:
* Oversee and mentor student teachers in two sections of HDFS 430. Provide leadership, training and support to teaching partners and volunteers in the classroom.
* Participate with the Child Development Lab's Education Services Team to implement the early education requirements of the Child Development Center's Oregon Head Start Prekindergarten Program, licensing, and accreditation.
* Address the Head Start Performance Standards related to Child Development & Education in support of children's readiness for kindergarten. * Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement. Communicate with parents on a regular basis and work with families in a positive, respectful, non-judgmental way to create facilitative and supportive relationships. Engage center families in on-going, informal information-sharing pertinent to their child's ongoing needs and developmental changes. Conduct periodic conferences with parents to formally review child's progress and set goals.
* Conduct home visits required by center model for the purposes of screening, assessment, support, and goal setting and for sharing information on parenting, home/center activities, educational strategies, and developmental progress in conjunction with families. Work with parents to establish and maintain regular attendance for their child. Provide information relative to Head Start health and nutrition requirements; work with Health Advocate to support families in completing health screenings.
* Assist families in the development of family partnership goals; provide timely and relevant referrals; monitor progress on the goals and other necessary follow up. Document and maintain family information in children's database and family contact record keeping system for assigned families.
* Maintain monthly contacts to promote partnership and provide for regular communication, including facilitating and conducting monthly parent committee activities and participating in monthly parent meetings.
* Arrange for transportation for child/parent to appointments and meetings.
* Work collaboratively with other staff members to plan for and deliver quality services. Collaborate with special needs consultants for goal setting, planning, and reviewing children's progress. Attend IFSP meetings. Work with community partners to identify, track, and refer children to appropriate consultants, specialist or agency when needed.
5% - Other Duties as Assigned:
* Represent the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, the Child Development Laboratory and the OSU Oregon Head Start Prekindergarten Program in community service and advisory groups, serving as an advocate for the needs of low-income children and families.

Job Summary
The Child Development Center, part of the School of Human Development and Family Sciences in the College of Health is seeking full or part-time, variable FTE , 9-month, professional faculty positions.

The Head Teacher (Lead Teacher) positions will establish a safe prekindergarten environment, teach the class of young children, conduct education and development screenings and assessments, identify, address, and track early education goals for individual children. They will conduct parent and teacher conferences and home visits required by the center model for the purposes of screening assessment, support, and goal setting and for sharing information on parenting, home/center activities, educational strategies, and developmental progress in conjunction with families.

Key Responsibilities
60% - Teaching:
+ Oversee and mentor student teachers in two sections of HDFS 430. Provide leadership, training and support to teaching partners and volunteers in the classroom.
+ Participate with the Child Development Lab's Education Services Team to implement the early education requirements of the Child Development Center's Oregon Head Start Prekindergarten Program, licensing, and accreditation.
+ Address the Head Start Performance Standards related to Child Development & Education in support of children's readiness for kindergarten. Conduct developmental screening and assessments, identify, and address early education needs, share progress reports with families, provide parent and teacher conferences and classroom meetings, track activities and submit reports.
+ Provide a safe and consistent care environment by demonstrating appropriate, effective group and individual management skills. Establish a consistent schedule that includes flexibility to meet the changing needs of the children. Individualize child and group activities to reflect the unique needs, strengths, and development stage of all children in care. Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, creativity, socialization, and choice-making: ask open-ended questions and listen respectfully to verbal and nonverbal communication. Integrate all Head Start components into work with children (education, health, parent involvement, social services)
+ Encourage and participate in activities that foster an environment that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and fosters a sense of belonging for both students, families and co-workers.
+ Assess individual and group needs, attending to children's interests, strengths, and goals. Establish daily and weekly goals which reflect individual and group needs. Structure environments/curriculum within HS guidelines responsive to developmental task acquisition and promotion of age-appropriate participation and independence.
+ Prepare materials to support activity plans; change and create learning areas as needed; delegate tasks as appropriate. Adapt curriculum to address and meet individual goals for children, including Individual Family Service Plan ( IFSP ) needs and goals for children with disabilities.
+ Write on-going anecdotal records and observations of children. Maintain up-to-date child files to include observations, screenings, assessments, individual child plans, family contact forms and consultant recommendations.
35% - Head Start/Family Partnership:
+ Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement. Communicate with parents on a regular basis and work with families in a positive, respectful, non-judgmental way to create facilitative and supportive relationships. Engage center families in on-going, informal information-sharing pertinent to their child's ongoing needs and developmental changes. Conduct periodic conferences with parents to formally review child's progress and set goals.
+ Conduct home visits required by center model for the purposes of screening, assessment, support, and goal setting and for sharing information on parenting, home/center activities, educational strategies, and developmental progress in conjunction with families. Work with parents to establish and maintain regular attendance for their child. Provide information relative to Head Start health and nutrition requirements; work with Health Advocate to support families in completing health screenings.
+ Assist families in the development of family partnership goals; provide timely and relevant referrals; monitor progress on the goals and other necessary follow up. Document and maintain family information in children's database and family contact record keeping system for assigned families.
+ Maintain monthly contacts to promote partnership and provide for regular communication, including facilitating and conducting monthly parent committee activities and participating in monthly parent meetings.
+ Arrange for transportation for child/parent to appointments and meetings.
+ Work collaboratively with other staff members to plan for and deliver quality services. Collaborate with special needs consultants for goal setting, planning, and reviewing children's progress. Attend IFSP meetings. Work with community partners to identify, track, and refer children to appropriate consultants, specialist or agency when needed.
5% - Other Duties as Assigned:
+ Represent the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, the Child Development Laboratory and the OSU Oregon Head Start Prekindergarten Program in community service and advisory groups, serving as an advocate for the needs of low-income children and families.
+ Attend and participate in program meetings as requested by supervisor.
+ Complete all required professional development training, including but not limited to 24 hours of annual training (8 hours of which must be in child development or early childhood education).

What You Will Need
+ Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or Elementary Education or Human Development & Family Sciences with coursework in Child Development and Early Childhood Education.
+ Two years teaching experience working with children ages 3-5 in a developmentally appropriate early childhood classroom setting.
+ Experience developing curriculum and planning and scheduling appropriate activities. Ability to maintain educational record keeping systems.
+ Sensitivity to individual and group needs of adults and children in target area; knowledge of family dynamics.
+ Excellent communication and problem-solving skills; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships, communicate, and problem-solve appropriately with children, parents, staff and public.
+ Demonstrated ability to communicate in a manner that shows respect and inclusivity for all co-workers and internal customers.
+ Enrollment in the Oregon Registry Online ( ORO ) with a Step 8 or higher. Current Food Handler's card.
+ OCC approved health and safety training within 30 days of hire.
+ Must have or obtain Blood Borne Pathogen training and infant/child First Aid/ CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
