JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective: A Paraeducator is responsible for assisting the teacher/therapist in providing instruction and support to assigned students in an educational setting, which is designed to promote intellectual, behavioral, emotional, and social growth. Assist a student to ambulate, position, and transfer.

Accompany student on school bus or other vehicle.

Observe/monitor and redirect/intervention to assist with completion of ADL's.

Participate in the implementation of each student's IEP (Individualized Educational Plan) and C.E.Rs (if applicable)
Assist with data collection of student performance.
May be trained, when qualified, to occasionally transport students.
Follow any individualized support plans that may be a part of a student's educational program (e.g., behavior, communication, health, transportation). Track information about each student including needs, strengths, gains and problem areas.

What is needed for this job
* High school diploma
* Associate/Bachelor degree or college credits from an accredited college or university in childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field preferred
* Are 21+ and have 2+ years of experience working with children in a professional, volunteer, or familial capacity
* Passionate about working with children in a fun, diverse environment, specifically 12-18 months
* Ability to pass all relevant clearances
The responsibilities we will trust you with:
* Finding new and engaging ways to help kids learn
* Facilitating nap time, clean up, snack time, diapering and hand washing
* Being patient and kind with our parents
* Supervising children at play in the classroom and on the playground as parents pick up children, with a focus on making sure child's items go home with them at the end of the day
* Cultivating and fostering a safe and nurturing environment that will encourage physical, emotional, and intellectual growth of children in the program
* Utilizing state and YMCA guidelines to ensure the safety and well being of the children

The Assistant Teacher assists the Lead Teacher with creating an environment that supports children's natural desire to explore, experiment and discover, helping them to achieve their optimal ability ensuring a safe and healthful environment. They assist with preparing the program and lessons and helping with the supervision of students. They are responsible for implementing positive discipline techniques and assuring that personal care needs are met.Essential FunctionsMust be able to assist during Center evacuation, which can involve navigating stairs, crossing streets, and physically assisting children Demonstrated ability to relate to and work with children with endurance to maintain continuous activity for up to six hours at a time Ability to immediately and appropriately identify and respond to a crisis Exercise good judgment, be proactive, take initiative, problem solve, and make sound decisions Ability to lift children (up to 50 pounds), walk, bend, stand, squat and sit on the floor (with the children) throughout the course of an eight-hour day, and push children in strollers and “Bye-Bye Buggies”Visual acuity of at least 20/40 (with corrected lenses if needed) to supervise children individually and in groups of 25, maintain accurate records, read curriculum materials, read story books to children, verify identification of escorts Ability to operate classroom equipment Ability to work outside in all temperatures and humidity ranges as well as in centers that may not have air conditioning Qualifications
Education
High school diploma and at least two years of experience working with children
Associates Degree preferred
Teaching Certificate preferred
