Associate Teacher - (Paid Contracted Residency) Spring 2026
Preschool teacher job in Mesa, AZ
Associate Teacher (Paid Contracted Residency) Reports to: MPS Building Principal and University Professional Experience Professor Associate Teachers are student teachers in paid roles throughout Mesa Public Schools. Associate Teachers actively work with teamed colleagues, student groups and a Lead/Mentor teacher to build a repertoire of research-based knowledge and effective teaching practices. Associate Teachers support the MPS Promise by fostering students' academic, behavioral, social and emotional growth as they prepare for college, career and community.
Qualifications:
* Currently enrolled in a teacher preparation program at a college or university and completing an internship or practicum
* Fulfilling higher education coursework before, during, and/or after the paid residency
* Actively seeking to be placed into a collaborative team model
* Hold a current IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
* Will work five school days per week, eight hours per day starting on:
* January 5, 2026 and ending on May 22, 2026 for Spring Semester (92 work days)
Duties and Responsibilities:
Associate Teachers will:
* Receive observations with written feedback per the syllabus from the MPS Building Principal.
* Work in conjunction with team members daily to co-plan, co-teach and assess student progress toward state academic standards.
* Demonstrate strong time-management skills with the preparation and completion of assigned team and campus tasks in accordance with assigned due dates.
* Attend regular coaching support and feedback sessions with the Lead/Mentor Teacher on topics to include: lesson plans, model planning, instruction, assessment, behavior management, and parent engagement strategies.
* Reflect upon and implement coaching feedback received and actively seek continuous professional growth as an educator.
* Observe and reflect on other teachers' classroom-based methods as they model high-quality instruction, assessment and behavior management practices, as arranged by campus leaders.
* Attend scheduled orientation, meetings, and professional seminars as assigned.
* Comply with MPS professional dress and behavior standards.
* Exhibit exemplary punctuality and attendance by missing no more than three work days, with appropriate coverage and communication if an absence occurs.
* Maintain clear and open communication with campus and community stakeholders.
* Support students' skill development as aligned to the MPS Portrait of a Graduate.

Description
The Teacher Assistant supports the Lead Teachers and the Administration by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the Teacher Assistant observes and documents children's interest and progress, and relays that information back to parents and staff. Teacher Assistant are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children's interests and needs under the direction of the Teacher and the Administration.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Lead Teacher in the implementation of curricula activities and encourage participation by children.
Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, maintenance, and availability of classroom materials.
Communicate with the Lead Teacher regarding all aspects of the children's care as well as classroom management.
Maintain daily communications with parents through informal discussions.
Ensure a healthy classroom environment - including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
Understand and adhere to all policies and procedures of the NPHX Preschool, NPHX Church and ensure all preschool policies and state regulations are met.
Maintain accurate records.
Attend annual new school year training in August.
Attend a minimum of 18 clock hours of training per year.
Attend yearly Open House in August and at least one other family event each year.
Be flexible and willing to adapt to changes as needed.
Requirements
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
Be at least 18 years of age.
Born again Christian (Does not need to be a member of NPHX) and signed statement of faith.
Minimum of 6 months of professional child care experience.
High energy and the ability to work well with others.
Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
An understanding of child development.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 70lbs.
Must clear full background check and must have a negative TB test within the last year.
Have dependable transportation.
Educational Requirements
High School Diploma or GED. Significant college credit in early childhood education or related field of study, CDA, or 6 hours of ECE credit preferred.
