About the Role
As an Early Preschool Assistant Teacher you will work in a classroom of children ages 2 - 3 years old. POSITION SUMMARY
The Preschool Assistant Teacher, 12+ Units will report directly to the Preschool Director and their Lead Teacher, and play a critical role in promoting a safe and welcoming environment to support the learning and individual growth of the preschool community. Curriculum Planning
Develop curriculum that advances the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth of children, as assigned by Preschool Director and/or Lead Teacher. Submit lesson plan before the start of every week.
Develop curriculum that incorporates a commitment to learning about the Jewish community, values, and traditions, as assigned by Preschool Director and/or Lead Teacher.
Provide varied opportunities using multiple learning styles for children's active participation, independent choices, experimentation, and problem solving within the context of a structured setting and program.
Classroom Safety
Help to establish and maintain a well-organized, safe, and healthy environment for children.
Check materials, equipment, and supplies to see that amounts are adequate and that everything is in good working condition; take preventative measures against hazards to physical safety.
Maintain appropriate staff to child ratios for supervising children at all times.
Support completion of accurate reports as directed (attendance, accidents/incidents, illness, medications administration, ID checks, etc.).
Maintain cleanliness of classroom: wash dishes, wipe counters, put things away.
Support and Communication
Assist with and intercede in conflict resolution within the classroom; supports an amicable resolution for children involved.
Help children find a place of calm and comfort, and attend to any injuries.
General
Participate in team meetings for planning curriculum, other staff meetings and trainings, and other JCC staff meetings.
Participate in parent orientations, parent conferences, and community-wide activities and celebrations.
Continue professional development through workshops and classes.
Assist with early and/or late care, as needed.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1 year prior experience in an ECE setting and 12 or more completed ECE units.
Bachelor's or Associate's Degree highly preferred.

Maintain First Aid and CPR certifications.
Ability to be on your feet and work a full shift, 5 days per week.
Ability to sit on the floor and to get up and down with ease.

POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is for a Teacher's Assistant full-time position (35h a week) in our Early Childhood Education Center also known as the Preschool/Maternelle (Grade PK2-PK4), for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year.
Teacher's Assistant is responsible for assisting the Preschool French and English Teachers in managing and caring for the well-being of students in the classroom, in the bathroom and on the playground within the context of implementing a program of activities that promote the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of each child enrolled in the program.
Teacher's Assistant reports to their classroom teacher(s) and above them to the Assistant Principal and Principal of the Maternelle. If and when acting as Extended Care monitor for after school care, vacation camps, or childcare, reporting is to the Extended Care Supervisor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist French and/or English Teacher(s) and collaborate closely with them in implementing the daily program of activities based on best practices and researched principles of child development and in accordance with the program's curriculum, social-emotional learning program (Positive Discipline) and school culture.
Actively supervise students during class time, bathroom time (including but not limited to toileting and diaper changing), lunch time, transition times and during recess times. Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of autonomy, self-esteem, and self-discipline.
Assisting with diaper changes and toilet training as needed.
Observe each child daily to assess skills, interests, and needs and use this information to facilitate learning and growth.
Maintain a well-organized, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children (including maintaining classroom cleanliness and keeping materials clean, neat, and arranged)
Intervene with vigilance and respect to help any child in need, prevent accident or injury to the degree possible, and in any situation requiring assistance
Establish a positive relationship with each child's family.
Perform other duties as required or assigned, including acting as extended care staff before or after school, vacation camps, and child care when requested.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Proficient in the language of teaching (French and English)
Experience working with young children (age 2-5 years old)
Bachelor's Degree
Certified in early childhood education or currently working towards the completion of one: at least 6 Early Childhood Education Units (12 would be a plus)
CPR & First Aid certified or obtain certification upon hire
Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a group of children alone in a classroom.
Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities
Able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 70lbs
Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences.

GENERAL SUMMARY: Plan and facilitate a center-based curriculum to ensure the goals and objectives are accomplished as outlined in Head Start Performance Standards. Serves as Center Director alternate designee for California Community Care Licensing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Curriculum and Practice
•Leads the planning and implementation of developmentally and culturally appropriate child-focused curricula and activities in the classroom in coordination with the Center Director and Education Department staff.
•As a lead, works with other program staff and partners to meet individual educational needs of children, including areas of cognitive, fine and gross motor, social-emotional, self-help, and speech and language development.
•Participates and supports in the adaptation of the classroom environment and curriculum to meet the needs of children with disabilities or special needs and to ensure that each child is fully included in center operations.
•Leads the planning and implementation of all aspects of designated developmental assessments of children three times per year and completion of other screening requirements under the supervision of the Center Director.
•Promotes family partnerships and parent involvement in program planning, implementation of services, and individualization of services for their children through parent activities and committee involvement, and volunteering in the classroom. Assists with recruitment and enrollment process.
•Ability to relate to families and children from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds
•Plan and implement educational field trips, with input from parents.
•Responsible for utilizing classroom activity funds in response to emergent curriculum.
•Maintain a neat and organized classroom and provide an attractive learning environment.
•Safeguard the confidentiality of the personal information of children and families by upholding mandates and policies.
•Assume responsibilities for center operations in the absence of the Center Director.
•Provide substitute coverage, as needed.•Assist with Food Service, as needed.
Training
•Plan and participate in staff and parent training on topics relevant to child development, environments, and classroom management.•Attend pertinent training, workshops, and conferences both within and outside of Head Start at the direction of the Center Director.
•Remain current in ECE/Child Development best practices through participation in continuing education and regular review of child development journals and resources provided by Child Start department staff.
•Actively participate in site staff meetings and other appropriate meetings to support and advance services.
Monitoring and Record-Keeping
•Compile and keeps current child and family documentation of home visits and other program services.
•Regularly observe classroom operations, the system of developmental assessment, and any other pertinent material to ensure quality service delivery. •Provide periodic reports to Education Department. Networking
•Further relationships within the site, position, region, agency, and community to ensure integrated and comprehensive services for families with children
.•Work with the community and local school system to manage the transition process for children and their families
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience
•AA or BA degree in ECE/Child Development or related degree and at least 3 units Admin/Supervision. Original (or certified copies) of all credentials or certificates and college transcripts indicating applicable coursework to meet the requirements of the position as a condition of employment.
•Two years of teaching experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program (previous experience teaching in a Head Start program highly desired), or 1 year as an Associate in a Child Start classroom.
Other Requirements
•Current 1st Aid and CPR Certification or ability to obtain in 60 days
•Ability to pass criminal record clearance•Clear TB test and statement of good health from a doctor are required as a condition of employment
•Actively working towards additional ECE/Child Development units preferred •Valid California Driver's License, required insurance, and acceptable driving record preferred
•Health and Safety Training (15 hours) or ability to obtain in 60 days
•Report any suspected child abuse as required by state law
•Some staff may be required to provide services in a full-inclusion model/classroom
Other Skills and Abilities
•Bilingual English/Spanish language preferred•In-depth knowledge of child development principles.
•Must be able to serve children with special needs. Some staff may be required to provide services in a full-inclusion model/classroom.
•One year of experience in classroom facilitation and management
•Familiarity with adult learning styles
•Ability to develop positive working relationships with other staff, parents, and volunteers
•Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with employer safety policies
•Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance in compliance with the agency Attendance policy
