GENERAL PURPOSE
Preschoolteacher performs a variety of duties related to conducting and managing a preschool class of 15 - 20 students between the ages of 3 and 5.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Preschoolteacher works under the direct supervision of the Washington City Community Center Preschool Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Preschoolteachers provide supervision as directed to preschool assistants and parent volunteers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The preschoolteacher is responsible for presenting and implementing the preschool curriculum as outlined by the preschool director. He/she is responsible for the day-to-day activities and schedule of the class and for providing a fun loving and effective learning environment for the students. The preschoolteacher also creates and presents lesson plans, games and activities in conjunction with the preschool curriculum that supports and implements the academic goals of the preschool program. The preschoolteacher is also required to communicate effectively with students and parents as well as co-workers regarding preschool activities, programs, and student behavior issues that may arise. It is the responsibility of the head teacher to lead circle time, academic time, and class activities at tables as well as to direct the assistant teacher. The head teacher is responsible for classroom management, schedule management, dismissal and classroom clean up for his/her assigned class.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School Graduate
2 year experience directly related to early childhood education, preschool, daycare or other related fields.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of children's safety including CPR and First Aid certification. Must be familiar with methods, techniques and philosophies of operating a preschool class. Position requires the ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, teachers, assistants, volunteers, parents, and the public. Position also requires an ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Teachers should be able to divert, direct and motivate students while creating and supporting an effective learning environment.
Work Environment:
Performance in a typical preschool setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, lifting, reaching and carrying up to 40 pounds. Communicating, seeing, hearing, and talking is essential to job effectiveness.

Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant Teacher works cooperatively as a member of a classroom team in partnership with the Lead Teacher(s) to deliver high-quality care to all children and families, and is responsible for the safety, supervision, and activities of children in care.
Ensure that the classroom environment is healthy, safe, clean, and engaging for children in care.
Complete daily logs, communicate with families through the family engagement app by sending progress notes and information to the child's families while in care each day. Complete required documentation and daily activity logs for all children in care.
Assist in conducting daily environmental safety checklists in the indoor classroom environment and outdoor environment to ensure adequate health and safety for the children in care. Report any items that need repaired or attention to the Director.
Track attendance, meals and snacks for each child and required documentation for the CACFP food program.
Complete required annual training and professional development opportunities provided by Stepping Stones Child Care.
Cover planning and meal break times for the classroom team and assist in various classrooms as assigned each day.
Comply with local, state, and federal laws governing child care.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Previous experience in an early childhood and care setting.
High School Diploma/GED.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must pass a Utah Child Care Licensing Background Check.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
Friendly and approachable demeanor.
Maintain a professional appearance, attitude, and work ethic always.
Ability to work as a team member with other staff and with families of children in care.
Complete and maintain current CPR/First Aid and Food Handlers Permit certifications.
Must be available to work a flexible schedule to meet the child care needs of families.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of children's safety including CPR and First Aid certification. Must be familiar with methods, techniques and philosophies of operating a preschool class. Position requires the ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, teachers, assistants, volunteers, parents, and the public. Position also requires an ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Work Environment:

Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
A current Preschool CDA (Childhood Development Associate) or a written plan to earn one within the first six months or an associate/bachelor's degree in early childhood education/child development or a related field within two years from the date of hire.
Current CPR, First Aid, and Food Handler's permits.
A willingness to work with children with special needs and those with limited or no English language skills.
Preferred bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
This role involves physical capabilities, including extended periods of walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, lifting/moving up to 50 pounds, as well as the ability to sit on the floor, crawl, run, and perform various activities associated with preschool care.

The job of Summit Program Teacher Assistant 2 is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for assisting in the instruction of individual or small groups of students in a variety of subject areas; assisting in the implementation of a behavior modification program; monitoring and reporting student behavior and performance; mentoring outside of the classroom; and performing a variety of clerical duties as assigned. This position will be specifically working with student behavior issues. Job duties will mainly be working with students who are completing in-school suspension. Students will be working on academic school work and this person will facilitate the students, help them as needed with the school work, build relationships with the students in an effort to correct their behavior and incorporate them back into the general classroom. In addition, this position will be monitoring the hallways during class as well as monitoring bathrooms during class for all students.
Essential Functions
Aids assigned instructional staff in improving student's learning skills, self care, and/or social development for the purpose of providing learning concepts and materials.
Assists teachers in specialized and/or mainstream education classroom in preparing and presenting a variety of instructional materials for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
Assists assigned instructional staff in improving student's learning skills, self care, and/or social development for the purpose of providing learning concepts and materials.
Communicates with teachers regarding assigned students' progress for the purpose of participating in needs assessments and/or assisting in evaluating progress.
Documents observations of student performance in academic and school activities (e.g. social skills, behavior, assignments, etc.) for the purpose of providing written records and/or complying with mandated requirements.
Guides students in personal interactions and/or specific student issues for the purpose of developing interpersonal skills and successful problem solving strategies.
Leads students by providing appropriate role modeling (e.g. conversation, manners, emotional support, listening skills, patience, and a friendly and engaging attitude, etc.) for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
Maintains a variety of manual and electronic instructional files and records for the purpose of providing written reference and meeting mandated requirements.
Monitors students' performance, under the direction of assigned classroom teacher, for the purpose of providing feedback to students, teachers and/or others involved in the provision of services in accordance with IEPs.
Obtains homework assignments for students at different academic levels for the purpose of addressing classroom requirements.
Provides communication and coordination between state agency personnel and parents for the purpose of ensuring student learning is conducted in accordance with program goals.
Supervises and monitors student behavior during assigned periods for the purpose of assisting students to de-escalate confrontations and maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
Tutors students outside of the school setting for the purpose of assisting in the achievement of objectives.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
