The Center for Civics, Culture, and Society was created by Cleveland State University and the Ohio General Assembly under Ohio Revised Code, Section 3344.07 and exists "to conduct teaching and research in the historical ideas, traditions, and texts that have shaped the American constitutional order and society." Successful candidates for these positions will be equipped and enthusiastic to teach the Center's flagship introductory course entitled The American Regime, which will cover the philosophical foundations of The United States, the American Founding, questions of equality and civil liberties, economics, religion, and contemporary cultural and political issues relevant to American political society. The required readings for this course will include (but are not limited to) The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution of the United States, selections from Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations, selections from The Federalist Papers, Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation and Gettysburg Address, and Martin Luther King Jr.'s Letter from Birmingham Jail. Scholars from a variety of academic disciplines, including (but not limited to) political science, philosophy, economics, law, history, classics, and literature are encouraged to apply.
