WHAT YOU'LL DO The Director, Policy & Government Affairs - Justice Division will report to the National Director of Policy & Government Affairs. YOUR DAY TO DAY Lead and manage a team charged with charting the course for the ACLU's federal policy agenda on criminal legal reform, and other civil rights and civil liberties issues Lead the Division in the development of novel goals, strategy, and vision, and the strategic plans necessary to advance key policy priorities and civil rights and civil liberties Identify areas of work that should be prioritized by the Division, developing an annual slate of policy priorities that drive the core work within the Division Provide strategic advice and counsel to the National Director of Policy & Government Affairs as well as other department leadership in areas of substantive expertise and in efforts to lead the Division's work on policy engagements, lobbying strategy, and shaping policy agendas Develop the strategy for and direct the policy and lobbying efforts in specific issue areas and civil liberties and civil rights at the federal level and support similar efforts at the state and local levels Identify funding opportunities and maintaining relationships with funders Manage Justice Division budget and grantmaking process. Remove all roadblocks preventing projects from meeting their target completion dates. Coordinate and schedule project check-ins. Deliver project updates on daily and weekly executive team meetings. Work alongside Schedular and Executive Team to ensure CEO is involved in projects accordingly. Schedule and coordinate events related to projects. Keep projects updated in Project Tracker. Identify and remediate areas of project implementation inefficiencies. Manage large emails and mailings. Manage contacts, data entry, and database functions, keeping meticulous records on prospects and donors. Prepare briefings for No Labels leaders and surrogates including members of Congress. Work with event hosts to create, promote, and manage virtual and in-person recruitment events of all sizes. Qualifications Bachelor's degree 8+ years of project or operations management experience 8+ years of scheduling or coordinating Able to manage multiples projects and teams at once Strongly motivated by the mission of No Labels Demonstrated strong attention to detail and multi-tasking skills Ability to meet competing deadlines while managing multiple projects Successful track record of business development or relationship management, preferably within the U.S. political system or other service-based or financial industries. Exceptional written and oral communication skills; an empathetic listener and a confident speaker with excellent persuasion and influencing skills. Comfortable building relationships with people at all levels of seniority. Professional, personable, and customer focused. Highly effective organizational skills and a strong work ethic, with the ability to manage and prioritize a varied workload, working independently and alongside others. Highly analytical with the ability to develop pipelines through strategic and targeted planning. Experience with database/Customer Relationship Management systems and Microsoft Office Suite. This is a full-time salaried position in Washington, DC. Compensation commensurate with experience.
