JOB SUMMARY/ JOB DUTIES: The Packaging Machine Operator, under the general supervision, is responsible for the safe, efficient and continuous operation of snack packaging machinery. • Maintains shift documentation (i.e., Metal Detector and Batch Order Verifications) • Reads production schedule and plans accordingly. • Reads and interprets schedule in MicroStrategy. • Able to print labels on different printers, choosing correct program for each printer; move eye and clean printers. • Perform nitrogen testing. • Efficiently maintains the operation of packaging machinery by monitoring codes, dates and prices. • Maintains an adequate supply of roll stock and ensures all packaging materials are available for each machine. • Set up and write new programs for bag makers. • Writes and/or edits machine micro logic as needed to maintain an efficient and low waste operation. • Creating and modifying code dates. • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment. Sets up and makes minor scale repairs and adjustments. • Perform span calibration and/or adjustments on scales, adjust scales linkages so it opens and shuts correctly, make minor adjustments to formers. • Efficiently operates packaging equipment which may include case sealers and robot cells. This includes but is not limited to: machine setups, troubleshooting, changeovers, proper running, procedural adjustments, sanitation cleanup, preventative maintenance and shutdown. • Properly plans ahead for machine changeovers and efficiently changing from one product item to another. • Monitors and adjusts each machine to ensure proper cut off of film and bags have proper end seals and back seals as required. • Ensures machines are running at standard speeds. • Monitors product appearance and adheres to weight control program. • Identifies and resolves packaged product quality issues. • Properly accounts for product run off and handles this product accordingly; sorts through and reworks all good product • Keeps machines and work areas clean, wipes packaging machines off and blows down area when required to do so. • Immediately reports any maintenance problems to appropriate technician and/or supervisor. • Practices and adheres to appropriate safety and hygiene guidelines/procedures for safe housekeeping and personal protection. • Stores supplies in designated areas. • Keeps work area aisles/exits clear and free from obstruction; removes trash from work area floor. • Follows instructions for safe lifting/carrying of various sizes, shapes and weights; identifies/reports issues with equipment; reports all job-related injuries to supervision. • May maintain shift documentation (i.e., Metal Detector and Batch Order Verifications). • May provide leadership and direction to packers. • May be qualified to perform as Back-up Packaging Coordinator, or other technical/skilled position. • If applicable, may monitor and replenish seasoning on overhead to ensure proper seasoning coverage on product. • Mandatory overtime may be required. • May perform other duties as required. Job Overview: The Machine Operator in our Spoke NA1 metals recycling plant located in Mesa, Arizona will be responsible for safely operating and maintaining machinery used in the recycling process. This includes equipment for sorting, shredding, crushing, and processing metals. The role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with machinery. Key Responsibilities: Machine Operation: Operate various machines and equipment used in the metal recycling process, including shredders, crushers, balers, and sorters. Monitor the machinery to ensure optimal performance and efficient recycling of metals. Maintenance and Cleaning: Identify mechanical issues and report them to maintenance personnel or troubleshoot minor issues independently. Quality Control: Inspect processed metals for quality and consistency, ensuring that the end product meets the required specifications. Ensure all recycling processes comply with industry standards and regulations. Safety Compliance: Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Conduct safety checks and monitor equipment for potential hazards. Report safety violations or concerns promptly. Material Handling: Load and unload metal materials into machines for processing. Assist in sorting metals according to type, grade, and size, ensuring proper processing techniques are used. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of machine performance, maintenance schedules, and production output. Document any operational issues or material discrepancies. Team Collaboration: Work closely with other operators, maintenance teams, and supervisors to ensure smooth plant operations. Communicate effectively to resolve any production delays or issues. Qualifications: Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment Machine operation or metal recycling experience required High school diploma or equivalent (technical training is a plus). Knowledge of safety regulations and equipment maintenance. Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude. Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team. Willingness and ability to become forklift operator certified. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs). Comfort with working in a noisy, dusty environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials. Working Conditions: This position will be expected to work in a plant environment with exposure to loud noise, dust, and varying temperatures. The job may involve shift work, weekend shifts, or on-call availability depending on operational needs. Duties/Responsibilities: Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose machines to deburr and polish metallic parts by performing the following duties: Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, accessories, and materials on machines such as turn tables and polishing machines. Verifies dimensions and alignment of fixtures and assemblies. Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings. Utilizes abrasives, sanders, grinders and other hand tools to deburr and finish product to customer specifications. Performs taping and masking processes of product for subsequent sandblast and machining operations. Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications. Performs minor equipment preventative maintenance. Cleans work area. Follow company and departmental principles, rules, guidelines, etc. with regards to health and safety, ISO requirements, Lean manufacturing principles, and good housekeeping Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED equivalent. Metal deburring / polishing, 1 year (Preferred). Sandblasting experience is a plus. Ultrasonic cleaning experience a plus. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
