Production OperatorThis position is responsible for daily operations of the production floor; ensuring the shift meets established safety, quality, and production goals in compliance with all applicable legal and food safety requirements. Essential Functions Responsible for daily activities of the production line(s), ensuring product adheres to Niagara's standard of safety, quality, and throughput. Accurately completes applicable quality and production reports hourly. Physical and visual inspection of product is required to prevent non-conforming goods. Correctly reports all quality defects to the appropriate team members and shift leadership. Adheres to the highest standards of company and plant safety programs, guidelines, rules, and regulations. Abides by Niagara's Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Food Safety Standards at all times. Maintains general housekeeping in all areas of production and additional areas assigned by plant leadership. Maintains appropriate level of raw materials as required, to ensure production lines incur minimal downtime. Demonstrates the aptitude and skill to work in all assigned areas of production; troubleshoots minor production line issues and performs relief duties when required. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job. Ability to work 12 hour shifts, day or night, on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule or schedule as dictated by production demand. Responsible for performing manual fabrication operations, as well as operating basic machine shop tools and other fabrication machinery, to produce parts within an expected timeframe. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: Operates a variety of machines, tools and other equipment (with major emphasis in hydraulic or pneumatic presses, bench grinders, abrasive blasting machines, vibratory tumblers, rotary deburring and polishing tools, but may also include lathes, mills, drill presses, grinders, and manual operations) to produce, assemble or test parts per instructions, blueprints or other technical drawings. Properly maintains and performs minor routine maintenance to machines utilized. Evaluates parts or material by measuring with appropriate instruments and may perform simple testing to validate parts or material conforms to requirements. Documents information as required per the work instruction or as instructed and reports any discrepancies to the supervisor, lead, and/or engineer. Summary Description: •Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Machine Operator is responsible for providing the customer with the highest quality product in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The Machine Operator is also responsible for monitoring and operating machinery on the production lines to comply with the established standard operating practices for each customer. Helps mechanics with set ups on the machines and starting the die cast machine with new jobs. Capable of removing stuck casting without creating any die damage. Trains new die cast operators. Begins to assist the mechanics with changing shot system parameters. Capable of programming and adjusting auto sprayers completely from the beginning steps. Helps mechanics to troubleshoot and repair minor mechanical problems on the die cast machine. Understands how to make minor adjustments and the purpose for doing so to the auto sprayers and can rebuild spray heads. Capable of proficiently assembling plunger tips to correct specifications for the job. Begins to learn set ups on both the die cast machine and the trip press by helping the mechanics. Begins to assist the mechanics with fixing and installing oil lines. Reports any production difficulties or quality problems to immediate supervisor or mechanic. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including overtime and weekends, as production schedules and requirements change on a regular basis according to business needs. Any other duties as assigned. Knowledge of TS and ISO 14001 Trimming parts from the gates and separating the parts from the scrap. Assures trim die is free of debris and lubricated properly with each use. Observes the quality of the products for excessive flash, dents, dings, bubbles, or any other defects that do not fall within the accepted quality standards. Responsible for containment of all non-conforming product, and ensuring it is properly identified. Understands when the metal level is too low and how to fill the furnace safely and which metal to use. Knows to watch the temperature of the metal in the furnace and when to call for help if it gets too hot or too cold. Enters job and production information into Epicor to track activities completed throughout the shift. Is able to record scrap and start up shots in addition to other job activities. Performs in process inspections every two hours on the parts and logging this information onto a sheet. Capable of starting the machine at the beginning of the shift for a job that was previously running. Follows all safety procedures including abiding by all safety latches, locks and gates on the machinery. Covers breaks and lunches at other die cast machines. Can run trim press and inspect parts at a variety of die cast machines and will be expected to move around and work different machines as business levels dictate. Keeps floor and area surrounding workstation clean and free from water and oil. Dumps scrap and doss at the end of the shift and as needed. Knows how to safely move the parts and material around using pallet jacks and carts. Packages up parts in boxes for the shipping department. Is responsible for reporting any production difficulties to mechanic or immediate supervisor. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including overtime and weekends, as production schedules and requirements change on a regular basis according to business needs.
