The following position is responsible for the grinding process in the manufacturing cycle. The work assigned is based upon the individual's training, experience, and ability. The roll grinder is expected to perform the requirements of the job per the Standard Operating Procedures and specific job Instructions recorded on the job router. The Supervisor may assign specific equipment or other tasks at the supervisor's discretion.
Job Duties:
Reading and interpreting production schedules, job router cards, blueprints, non-conformance reports, and any other materials that summarize requirements for the grinding of rubber rolls.
Locating and retrieving rolls to the grinding production area utilizing overhead cranes and various materials handling equipment.
Preparing the individual rolls for installation in the grinding equipment, utilizing knives to trim back rubber from the rollers prior to installing the rollers into the equipment, cleaning steel surfaces of rollers using hand or mechanical equipment, cleaning steel surfaces of rollers using hand or mechanical equipment, such as die-grinders or sheet abrasive/polishing materials.
Setting the grinding equipment, installing special grinding wheels or attachments, adjusting and setting tooling on tool posts, installing live-centers, chucks centers, extensions, dogs, etc.
Aligning the rollers in the equipment to meet all dimensional requirements of job order. This includes adjustment for taper, TIR, roller surface finish, and finish dimensions.
Measure all required dimensions and understand the relationship of the dimensions to the specific requirements of the job.
Utilize all inspection and measurement equipment per procedure and instruction, including durometer gauges, pi-tapes, P&J gauges, micrometers, vernier diameter tapes, dial indicators, profilometers, temperature-indicating devices, and others as needed.
Complete the grinding operation and inspect the finished product to ensure that all requirements are met.
Complete all necessary paperwork, inspection reports, job router information, and operator sign-off on job.
Clean all metal and rubber surfaces prior to protective wrapping.
Unload the grinding equipment safely and without damage or harm to personnel, equipment or finished product.
Deliver the finished product to a designated storage area or shipping container.
Safely operate the grinding equipment to produce the desired results and meet the specific job requirement.
Maintain a clean work environment, floors swept, supplies properly stored, equipment cleaned and well maintained.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Responsibilities
Cutting rough test samples according to instruction on a band saw
Facing of hardness samples on a manual lathe
Turning of mechanical sample blanks on a manual lathe
Center Drilling mechanical sample blanks on a manual lathe
Shaping reduced sections of mechanical samples on a computer assisted lathe
Threading mechanical samples on a computer assisted lathe
Cutting metallographic samples on an abrasive saw
Following written procedures for sample preparation
Sample identification and quality control to ensure integrity of tests
Brinell and Rockwell hardness testing
Mounting and polishing of metallographic samples
Heat Treatment
Operation of CNC cylindrical grinder for final mechanical sample
Requirements
Aptitude to adhere to safe work practices
Perform work with a high degree of integrity
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds repeatedly
Capability to work flexible hours, overtime, and a 3/2 team schedule.
Basic computer operating skills in a windows PC environment
Previous experience in Mechanical or Metallographic sample preparation
Familiarity in heat treating practice and theory
Knowledge and/or experience in the machining of mechanical test samples.
Knowledge and/ or experience in preparation of Metallography samples and Metallographic Testing

Perform material processing operations on inventory according to work orders and by supervisor directive. May operate overhead crane and variety of processing equipment including but not limited to CNC, blaster, drill, oxy burner, plasma, saw, t-split, press brake.
| DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES |
Verifies and confirms the correct material, dimensions and cut to lengths before or after processing as specified by work order.
Sets up and operates a processing machine in accordance with procedures and guidelines.
Uses manual and/or computer-controlled equipment to operate machines.
Controls and adjusts machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications, and in timely fashion.
Log and report inventory location and changes according to specified procedure into inventory computer system and/or by paperwork.
Log and tag inventory according to specified procedure.
Assemble customer orders according to work orders.
Record pertinent material information to work orders, material, or other forms as specified by management.
Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
Works and coordinates with multiple areas of warehouse, and coworkers to complete tasks.
Maintain compliance with all safety requirements, policies, and procedures.
Safety sensitive for his/her owns safety and/or of others safety.
Demonstrated initiative to proactively seek out work and complete tasks.
May need to work overtime and weekends as assigned (depending on business need)
Performance of other Warehouse or other tasks, including the operation of an overhead crane, as required by the absence of a department member or due to the existence of a backlog of work.
Minimum 1 year steel processing or warehouse operations or 2-3 years experience with other CNC type processing applications.
Must have good mathematical skills including adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
Must be able to use and read measuring tools such as caliper, micrometer, and tape measure

Set up, adjust, operate, and maintain a number of press equipment
Perform all make-ready tasks associated with the type of pressoperated such as hanging plates or installing cylinders, examine plates/cylinders for imperfections and checks for correct positioning of images, prepping blankets, adjusting tension and register etc.
Make necessary color corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain the quality specifications of the work
Clean, lubricate, and maintain the press, making minor repairs and replacing worn or broken parts as required
Performs periodic maintenance recommended by the manufacturer

Requires thorough knowledge of offset printing procedures, materials and specifiactions, equipment, and safety requirements and skills to perform assignments
Skill to read and understand job specifications and knowledge of press capabilities to determine the most appropriate press usage, press settings and materials needed to run the job successfully
Skill to make a variety of difficult precise settings of controls, settings, and adjustments, and to perform routine operational maintenance of equipment
Skill inroutine operational maintenance and minor repairs to equipment
Knowledge of the appropriate amount of packing pressure needed to obtain the proper printing pressure for the type of job being run
Skill in use of micrometer to mount and align the printing plate correctly
