Scope: Perform duties setup and operate punch press to cut, specified metal sheets to defined specifications and set and operate a range of metal fabrication equipment to cut, notch, and shape metal parts, working within the limits of standard or accepted practice. Essential Duties: Work from job packets, bill of materials (BOM), blueprints, drawings, and/or production schedule. Perform machine startup and shutdown procedures on punch press equipment. Position work piece onto table with hands or crane, using vacuum system to hold piece in place. Layout cuts on computer and select tooling according to thickness and type of metal. Interpret job information to determine specific material requirements. Layout operations to maximize material utilization. Label completed parts with appropriate part number. Remove chips and drop from parts and staging table. Determine sequence of operation for each process and edit program based on sequence. Rack and move pieces to staging area. Verify conformance of first piece to specifications using calipers, protractors, gauges, and measuring tape. Gauge work pieces randomly through run to ensure maintenance of settings and make adjustments as necessary. Perform quality checks, complete check lists, verify counts, record time per job and ensure compliance with production schedules. Submit production documentation as required. Stage completed parts for movement or move to subsequent operations to maintain workflow. Maintain a clean and safe work area. Take responsibility for the physical inventory of materials. Request material reorders as necessary. Other Duties: Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly condition. Consistently operate in keeping with all safety rules and requirements. Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, and policies. MPI Exeter is seeking experienced Machine Operators to join our Pipe Fabrication and Machining operation. The Machine Operators are responsible for measuring, threading, and adjusting flange fit and facing the flange on pieces of ductile or steel pipe. The position will require the use of all types of manual machine tools, such as lathes and threaders. Work also includes operating the machines and cranes to move pipe in and out of machining centers. Scope of Responsibilities 1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members. Assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. Wears appropriate PPE which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection. Responsible for cleanliness of the assigned work area. Proactively promotes the McWane Way principles. Follow all processes and procedures associated with the Waterman Safety Management Program. Inform management of any deviations from this program. Identify fabrication requirements for each piece of pipe Operate forklift to move pipe inside/outside the plant. Operate pipe cut off saw. Place pipe in machine, center the pipe, and tighten for work. After the pipe is in place, the operator will machine tapered threads into the pipe. During this process, the machine operator is responsible for verifying measurements, such as thread depth and accurate taper. After the threads are cut the operator tests the flange to make sure it screws onto the pipe accurately. Applies glue on pipe and flange and uses the machine to tighten the flange onto the pipe. For Threaders - Remove pipe from machine and move to next processing operation. For Lathes - run the cutting tool across the surface of the face of the flange to flush fit the flange onto the pipe Operator will work with pipe and flanges primarily from 3” to 24” in diameter, and lengths from 6 inches to 18 feet long. Operator will be proficient with quality and able to meet prescribed production output objectives for the work center. Paint and package finished product.
