Directions for Youth & Families offers community-based mental health and prevention services that utilize a resiliency-oriented and trauma-informed framework. DFYF has provided innovative, culturally sensitive, and successful programming to the Central Ohio community since 1899, through our predecessor Crittenton Family Services. Presently, DFYF's programs are divided into 3 categories: Treatment, Prevention, and Education. DFYF offers specialized mental health, kindergarten readiness, afterschool and summer programming to meet the diverse needs of our youth and family population. DFYF proudly serves over 5,000 youth, adults, and families each year. Position summary

Directions for Youth and Families is seeking an energetic and creative individual to be a part of our After School team and fifacilitating activities, particll the position of Part-time Recreation Prevention Specialist. Responsibilities include lesson planning, engaging youth in fitness and recreational related activities in an after-school environment. i

Applicant should have experience and knowledge of various activities such as basketball, volleyball, football, and soccer (not limited too), and capable of instructing and educating youth. Recreation Specialist should be capable of creating activities that that are appropriate for various age ranges and implementing values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and communication. Recreation Specialist will oversee groups of no more than 10 youth and able to implement activities from lesson plans.

Applicants should be comfortable working with youth between the ages of 8 - 18 years of age, completing all required documentation daily, and possess basic computer skills. Afterschool programming days are Monday-Friday, hours 3 - 8 pm, summer hours 9 - 3 pm, team meetings and occasional special events that may require coming in prior or staying later

Bachelor's degree preferred and experience facilitating various activities and working with youth required

Applicant should be comfortable working with youth between the ages of 8 - 18 years of age

Ability to complete all required documentation daily, and possess basic computer skills.

Applicant should possess a valid driver's licenses, auto insurance and reliable transportation.

This position will be embedded in the Barren River Health District and the surrounding counties and will serve as an EIS Peer Health Educator. This position will provide targeted HIV and Hepatitis C testing and counseling to persons presenting for services at the harm reduction programs to help the unaware learn of their status. This position will requiring driving throughout a defined service area to provide harm reduction and outreach services. This position will refer persons found to be positive for HIV or Hepatitis C to medical care and treatment services at key points of entry for Outpatient/Ambulatory Health Services, Medical Case Management, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.This position will provide interventions and educational information to persons at high-risk for contracting or transmitting HIV on how to reduce the risk of HIV transmission and will work with individuals to assess individual risk needs and connecting them to appropriate resources as needed. This position will provide information about medical and psychosocial support services and counseling to improve the participants health status. Educational topics covered to include: risk reduction strategies to reduce transmission including comprehensive HIV, Hepatitis C, and STI prevention counseling, preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for clients' partners and treatment as prevention and harm reduction. This position will provide tools to clients to improve their health literacy, increase retention in medical care, and improve treatment adherence to achieve better health outcomes. This position is distribute patient education materials (pamphlets and books) as well as risk reduction supplies (sharps containers and condoms) to persons at high risk for contracting or transmitting HIV. The EIS Peer Health Educator will represent the Target4 Project within the local health department and assist in collaborations and strategic planning.

This position is part of Target4 Project and will be funded by the the Kentucky AIDS Drug Assistance Program (KADAP) income Reinvestment Program (KIRP). This position is part of the KIRP program which has been funded since September 2018 and is currently funded by biennium, with current funding approved through June 30, 2024. This position will require travel in a defined service area within the Commonwealth of Kentucky, specifically within the Barren River Health District and the surrounding counties.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Windows, including the Office applications Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.

Substance abuse disorder experience preferred. Looking for lived, personal experience with substance use disorder.
