Pride International company history timeline

1966

The company was founded in 1966 in Alice, Texas as Pride Oilwell Service Company.

1978

In 1978, the company was acquired by Dekalb Corporation.

1988

1988 Pride emerges as an independent public company trading on the NASDAQ.

1990

In December 1990, the company also bought Valley Hyperclean, a California oilfield services firm that specialized in well bore cleaning and production enhancement.

In 1990, Pride's aggressive business expansion comprised the acquisitions of the fixed assets of Ranger Well Service, Inc. and East Texas Packer Sales and Service, Inc, including 12 rigs in East Texas.

1991

By the end of 1991, with the acquisition of 17 more well-servicing rigs in December, Pride's domestic fleet of rigs totaled 437 operating in 29 locations.

In 1991, the company formed Pride International, Inc. as wholly owned subsidiary after executives from Kuwait Petroleum Company requested urgent assistance to help restore that country's oil fields following the Persian Gulf War.

1993

1993 Pride acquires two well servicing and drilling operations in Argentina and Venezuela.

1994

In June, 1994, Pride's acquisition of the largest fleet of platform workover rigs in the United States Gulf of Mexico gave it a fleet of 22 rigs comprising 45 percent of the regional market.

1995

In March 1995, the company acquired a 35-rig competitor in New Mexico, and in October, Pride International purchased Marlin Columbia Drilling Company, Inc. from the Royal Dutch/Shell group of companies.

1996

Rob Hill became the first President of BFLAG.In 1996, the first of four annual gatherings of persons interested in issues faced by those who are both, gay or lesbian, and who are blind was held.

In 1996, the company acquired Quitral-Co.

1997

Paul A. Bragg, Pride's president and chief operating officer since 1997, succeeded Tolson as CEO. He was additionally elected to fill the vacancy on the board of directors left by Tolson's retirement.

1997 Pride Petroleum Services is renamed Pride International, Inc., and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange; company sells its United States land-based well-servicing operation.

1998

1999

There was again discussion of developing a special interest affiliate for blind gays and lesbians within ACB. 1999 Los Angeles CaliforniaThe name of the organization, BFLAG, Blind Friends of Lesbians and Gays, was adopted and officers were selected.

2000

The year 2000 marked BFLAG’s affiliation with the American Council of the Blind (ACB.) The ACB board approved the request for affiliation on February 20 of that year.

2000 and Beyond: Continued Expansion and Restructuring

2001

In January 2001, Pride was able to resolve long-standing difficulties concerning its deepwater rig contracts with the Brazilian state oil company.

In 2001, the company acquired Marine Drilling.

2003

2003 – Pittsburgh Pennsylvania: The mayor of Birmingham proclaimed the day of our annual meeting “BFLAG Day in Birmingham”. A membership list for members who wished to be included was formed to enable members to be in touch throughout the year.

In May 2003, Pride was awarded six new contracts by a unit of Mexican state oil company, Pemex, increasing its contract backlog by $220 million.

BFLAG was also awarded ACB’s Membership Growth Award, in recognition of the largest percentage of membership growth in 2003.

Raspino had been serving as executive vice-president and chief financial officer since joining Pride in 2003.

2003 Pride begins operations in Kazakhstan with the first of two land rigs and delivers and installs the first of the deepwater rigs off the shore of Angola.

2005

In June 2005, Pride International announced a change of leadership to carry out the company's new direction with the board of directors electing Louis A. Raspino to serve as the new president and chief executive officer, replacing Paul A. Bragg.

In October of 2005, the BFLAG Board met for the first time in person outside of the convention city.

2006

In 2006, the company put executives on leave due to bribery allegations for rig contracts in Mexico and Venezuela.

2007

The largest group of participants, by far, was in Washington DC. The group of about 10 members met both before and after the long parade for cocktails at “The Green Lantern”. Plans are well under way for the 2007 convention in Minneapolis.

2008

In November, the Kizomba began operations for Esso Exploration Angola, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil Corporation, under a contract that was due to expire in 2008.

2009

In August 2009, the company spun off Seahawk Drilling, which owned 20 jackup rigs.

Another highpoint of the week was our organization being re-chartered under the new name Blind LGBT Pride International, adopted in 2009.

Speaking of board members, 2009 marks the first year that there was a full compliment of board members in attendance.

2011

On May 31, 2011, the company was acquired by Ensco (now Valaris plc).

2012

Following much planning and organizing, BPI’s 2012 National Convention was held at the Galt House Hotel and Suites in downtown Louisville, Kentucky.

A great deal of thanks goes to Rob Hill and Harlo Peece our 2012 National Delegate and Alternate Delegate respectively.

2014

Four consultant guided wine tastings and on-line auction were the two fund raising activities for convention 2014.

2022
