About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner to join our team at a busy colorectal surgery practice. In this vital role, you will contribute to our mission of delivering exceptional patient care, performing preoperative history and physicals, rounding in the hospital, and assisting in surgery.
Responsibilities
Conducts physical exams, assesses health status, orders and interprets tests, prescribes medications, and treats illnesses including giving injections and suturing wounds. Consults with physicians as needed and refers to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of an APP?s scope of work.
Assists the supervising physician in institutional settings, including reviewing of treatment plans, ordering of tests and diagnostic laboratory and radiological services, and ordering of therapies, using procedures reviewed and approved by a licensed physician.
Triages patient calls and evaluates patient problems. Responds to emergencies including use of CPR.
Instructs and counsels patients regarding mental and physical health using procedures reviewed and approved by a licensed physician.
Gathers the necessary medical records, documents patient information and care in medical record and may maintain department statistical database for research purposes.
Assists in pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative patient care both in a hospital as well as an ambulatory surgery setting.

Education
Bachelor?s degree and successful completion of an accredited physician assistant or nurse practitioner program.
Experience
Four years of health care experience before applying to APP program.
Two years of experience as an APP, preferably in General Surgery, Gastroenterology, Gynecology, or Urology.
Two or more years of surgical experience required. Robotic surgery experience is preferred. DaVinci certification a plus.
State APP license required. Current CPR certificate also required.
Nurse Practitioners must be ASBA or NSAA certified.
