The Stony Brook School is seeking a School Medical Director (MD or Nurse Practitioner) to provide clinical leadership, oversight, and consultative support for our Health Center. Clinical Oversight & Student Care
Serve as Health Care Provider for boarding students; provide same-day appointments Monday-Friday for student illness, injuries, or immunization issues.
Be available for emergency telephone consultation for the School Health Center.
Conduct medical evaluations and provide follow-up care for bloodborne pathogen exposure incidents as required by OSHA.
Provide medical care for students as needed, including physicals where appropriate.
Collaborative Support to School Health Staff
Work closely with the Director of Health and Wellness (RN) on matters of student health and treatment plans.

The salary range for this role is $226,000 to $366,000 annually based on full-time employment. Salary Range is defined as total cash compensation at target. Job purpose

Position Overview
The Stony Brook School is seeking a School Medical Director (MD or Nurse Practitioner) to provide clinical leadership, oversight, and consultative support for our Health Center. This individual will work closely with the Director of Health and Wellness (RN) to coordinate student healthcare, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the overall health needs of our boarding and day students.
This is a contracted, part-time Independent Contractor role and not an employee position. The service term runs from December 1, 2025, through May 23, 2026, with no guarantee of renewal.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Oversight & Student Care
Serve as Health Care Provider for boarding students; provide same-day appointments Monday-Friday for student illness, injuries, or immunization issues.
Be available for emergency telephone consultation for the School Health Center.
Conduct medical evaluations and provide follow-up care for bloodborne pathogen exposure incidents as required by OSHA.
Provide medical care for students as needed, including physicals where appropriate.
Collaborative Support to School Health Staff
Work closely with the Director of Health and Wellness (RN) on matters of student health and treatment plans.
Make in-person visits to the Health Center as requested by the Director of Health and Wellness.
Sign standing medical orders for school nurses (e.g., anaphylaxis treatment, albuterol nebulizer use, opioid overdose treatment).
Program & Compliance Leadership
Ensure compliance with New York State health regulations, school health policies, and best practices for school healthcare settings.
Serve as Medical Director for the school's AED Program.
Oversee and review the school's concussion policy.
Participate in Selection Classification screenings for 7th and 8th grade athletic participation.
General Availability & Coordination
Provide weekday office appointments at approximately 10:00 a.m. and emergency availability during the day (with reasonable scheduling flexibility).
Arrange for a covering physician/NP during absences.
Coordinate with the Health Center for care transitions, compliance monitoring, and documentation.
Qualifications
Medical Doctor (MD/DO) or licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) in New York State.
Active license in good standing; ability to provide proof of licensure.
Experience working with children or adolescents is preferred.
Professional office must be located within a 10-mile radius of The Stony Book School
Strong communication, clinical judgment, and an ability to collaborate effectively with nursing staff, school leadership, and families.
Familiarity with NYS Department of Education health requirements is a plus.
Must be able to meet required insurance and malpractice coverage standards.
Structure & Compensation
