Physician Lead - Primary Care Innovation
Akido
Primary care physician job in Cranston, RI
Job Description
Akido builds AI-powered doctors. Akido is the first AI-native care provider, combining cutting-edge technology with a nationwide medical network to address America's physician shortage and make exceptional healthcare universal. Its AI empowers doctors to deliver faster, more accurate, and more compassionate care.
Serving 500K+ patients across California, Rhode Island, and New York, Akido offers primary and specialty care in 26 specialties-from serving unhoused communities in Los Angeles to ride-share drivers in New York.
Founded in 2015 (YC W15), Akido is expanding its risk-bearing care models and scaling ScopeAI, its breakthrough clinical AI platform. Read more about Akido's $60M Series B. More info at Akidolabs.com.
Akido is rebuilding the healthcare experience from the ground up. Through early interventions designed around social determinants of health (SDoH), world-class care focused on chronic disease, and human-centered technology, we believe we can build a healthcare model that allows for all patients to live their fullest lives. We are a fast-growing, impact-focused, Y Combinator company created out of the University of Southern California's D-Health Lab with the idea that empowering government, healthcare, and nonprofit services with population-based data could help usher in a new era of preventive public health. Today we are building a full stack medical network that leverages our predictive capabilities to provide a frictionless experience for both our patients and care providers.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a rare physician leader to undertake one of the most challenging and rewarding missions in healthcare today.
As our Physician Lead - Primary Care Innovation in Rhode Island, you will be the cornerstone of our ambitious initiative to build AI-enabled primary care clinics from the ground up. This is not only a clinical role-it's an opportunity to fundamentally redefine what's possible at the intersection of medicine, technology, and compassionate care.
We need a visionary clinician who understands that the greatest breakthroughs happen at the edge of possibility-someone who can provide exceptional patient care in the morning and redesign the future of healthcare delivery by afternoon. You'll be both a practicing physician and a systems architect, constantly iterating on care models that can scale to serve those who need it most.
If you find yourself restless with healthcare's status quo, if you're driven by both clinical excellence and technological possibility, and if you believe that primary care should be simultaneously more human and more advanced-we want to speak with you.
What You'll Do
Lead the development and launch of our first AI-enabled primary care clinics in Rhode Island, establishing the clinical foundation for our national expansion.
Provide direct patient care and scale a panel while simultaneously developing and testing innovative care delivery models that leverage AI and technology.
Partner with our technology team to design, implement, and iterate on clinical workflows and AI applications that enhance both the provider and patient experience.
Build and lead a clinical team that shares our vision for technology-enabled, high-quality primary care.
Create an environment of continuous experimentation and learning, where clinical hypotheses are rigorously tested and refined.
Establish clinical quality standards and outcome metrics that align with our mission of delivering exceptional, accessible care.
Collaborate with leadership to translate clinical insights into scalable processes and systems.
Serve as a clinical thought leader and ambassador for Akido's approach to healthcare innovation.
Who You Are
Required
Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
Successful completion of ACGME accredited residency program in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
Board certified or Board eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine GM.
Must have a RI medical license or be eligible for full, unrestricted licensure by the time of hire.
Minimum of 5 years of clinical practice experience, with demonstrated excellence in patient care.
Deep commitment to expanding access to high-quality care, particularly for underserved populations.
Proven ability to lead and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams while maintaining a strong focus on patient-centered, high-quality care.
Excellent communicator who can translate complex medical concepts across clinical, technical, and operational domains.
Experience with or strong interest in leveraging technology and AI in clinical settings.
Preferred
Exceptional systems thinker who can see both the big picture and the critical details.
Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid iteration; you thrive in environments where the path forward requires creation rather than following.
Natural leadership abilities with a track record of building and inspiring teams.
Entrepreneurial mindset with the resilience to weather the challenges of building something new.
Benefits
Health benefits include medical, dental and vision
