Position Summary:
White Plains Hospital is seeking a dedicated Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Neurology team. Under the general supervision of an attending physician, the PA/NP will provide comprehensive medical care to neurology patients, including stroke consults, inpatient rounding, procedures, and patient education. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a collaborative, high-acuity setting while delivering exceptional neurological care.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform initial assessments, obtain medical histories, conduct physical exams, and develop treatment plans for Neurology patients.
Respond to stroke codes and neurology consultations, managing both inpatient and outpatient care.
Order, review, and interpret laboratory tests and imaging studies.
Assist in invasive procedures such as phlebotomy, arterial blood gas sampling, catheter insertions, wound care, and suture/staple removal.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, rehabilitation specialists, and care management teams, to ensure coordinated care.
Document medical records accurately and prepare discharge summaries and post-discharge instructions.
Prescribe and manage medications, including controlled substances, in accordance with hospital protocols and NYS regulations.
Ensure compliance with NCQA, TJC, and state/federal regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
Nurse Practitioner (NP):
Master?s Degree in Nursing (highly recommended)
Current NYS license as a Registered Professional Nurse
NYS certification as a Nurse Practitioner (Adult or Geriatric)
Minimum 1 year experience in Neurology
Current National Certification
ACLS certification required
Physician Assistant (PA):
Current New York State PA license
National Certification as a Physician Assistant

Our Facility
Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, a member of Catholic Health Services of Long Island, is a 537-bed (including 100 nursing home beds), not-for-profit hospital serving the communities on the south shore of Long Island in West Islip, New York. Good Samaritan s high-quality medical services extend across the continuum of care to all disciplines, both for inpatients and outpatients. Good Samaritan is one of the largest providers of emergency services on Long Island. The Ambulatory Surgery Department, where patients have same-day procedures, treats an average of almost 300 patients each week. Pediatric patients are treated in the pediatric emergency department and, if necessary, admitted to the Pediatric Unit or the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Pediatric sub-specialists are available around the clock to support these medical services.
Our Emergency Department
The emergency department evaluates and treats patients presenting with all types of emergencies, 24 hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. It the only Verified Level II Trauma Center for both adult and pediatric patients on the south shore of Long Island. The emergency medicine clinical team works collaboratively with the in-hospital Trauma Team to provide immediate trauma care to all patients presenting with a traumatic injury. The emergency department also provides immediate access to a 24-7 cardiac percutaneous coronary intervention team and is a Comprehensive Stroke Center. The emergency department's staff includes physicians, nurses, and physician assistants who are trained and experienced in responding to emergent medical problems in patients of all ages. Approximately 90,000 injured or ill adult and pediatric patients are treated every year in the emergency department.
