Position Summary
Supervise and perform Sonography examinations. Perform complex diagnostic examinations using advanced imaging, recording, and processing devices via Viewpoint and Epic.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Demonstrates effective leadership through communication with department staff, physicians, and internal/external customers. Assumes accountability for decisions and actions and maintains a professional manner when faced with a difficult situation. Recognizes, assesses, acts, and relays appropriate information regarding department issues to the Division Director
Assists with the development and oversight of internal clinic guidelines and procedures in conjunction with the Director, Physicians, and Program Managers as they relate to ultrasound
Oversight of Quality Control/Performance Improvement Goals and Development for Ultrasound Services in conjunction with Director MFM. Re-implement Ultrasound Quality Assurance and Peer Review Audits.
Coordinates and maintains AIUM (American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine) accreditation
Promotes teamwork, service excellence, and patient-centered care among sonographers, management, physicians, and other team members.
Assists with oversight/coordination of interfaces of software programs ( Viewpoint, Epic,) to ensure accurate documentation, statistics, and billing
Oversees management of all ultrasound equipment to include required maintenance contracts.
Assists with Sonographer staffing levels appropriate to patient volume as needed.
Assists with the functionality of Viewpoint in conjunction with the clinical program manager. Coordinates Infection Control procedures and annual Trophon competencies across the market.
Coordinates and oversees diagnostic supplies and annual supply inventory across the market.
Plans, assigns and supervises the daily work of subordinates, including ongoing training in new methods and procedures, managing performance, and other supervisory-related responsibilities.
Performs complex diagnostic procedures using advanced imaging, recording, and processing devices, i.e. ultrasound equipment
Reviews studies to determine quality and completeness of examination and takes appropriate action.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Graduate of an approved diagnostic medical sonography program
Licensure
Current BLS certification, AHA
American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
OB/GYN certification
Fetal Echocardiography certification
Current and valid CPR certification
NTQR certified for Nuchal Translucency/Nasal Bone
CLEAR certified for Cervical Length required within 1 year of hire
Experience
A minimum of 4 years of experience as a registered sonographer
A minimum of 2 years of experience as an MFM sonographer
At least 2 years of experience with dual registries (i.e. Fetal Echo, Nuchal Translucency)
Physical Requirements
Stand, walk, and reach above the shoulder frequently in a clinical setting.
Must be able to occasionally lift and carry or push and pull up to 100 lbs. as part of the role
Regularly exposed to healthcare settings that may require personal protective equipment
Requires manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, calculator, copier machine, and other equipment.

Patient Care
* Verifies proper clinician order for procedure.
* Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
* Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast medias so that no patient condition deteriorates, and no patient suffers undue pain, due to error or poor technique.
* Ensures that all studies have proper patient identification and right and left marker are utilized appropriately.
* Reviews ultrasound images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
* Responds to emergency situations and provides for the restocking of the crash cart and maintenance of life support equipment.
* Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed.
* Observes patient condition and properly evaluates situations when physician intervention is necessary so that no patient condition deteriorates.
* Verifies correct identity of patient using 2 unique identifiers prior to performing a procedure per hospital policy and procedure.
* Ensures patient's privacy and comfort is accommodated. Maintains patients dignity throughout the exam/procedure.
* Demonstrates competence in the determination and application of appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on the age of patients.
* Organizes schedule, time and priorities so that required activities are accomplished within designated time frames.
* Follows physicians instructions when assisting with procedures and exams.
* Demonstrates proficiency with loading and operating power injection.

* Required documentation is concise, legible and includes precise terminology.
* Reads email each day scheduled to work and follows through with assignment.
* Completes mandatory departmental and Hospital‐wide education without prompting.
Quality Control
* Consistently produces acceptable images, as evidenced by radiologist feedback and quality audits, with a first time acceptance rate.
* Ensures that equipment is fully operational prior to each use, by checking for proper calibration and operating deficiencies.
* Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion, prints CDs as needed.
* Studies that have been reported after hours by teleradiography are printed and scanned into PACS, if applicable.
* Completes all studies in RIS before completing in PACS.
* Prints completed log sheet from teleradiography and submits to Radiologist, if applicable
* Performs and maintains quality control logs for probe disinfection and follows infection control policies
Equipment
* Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique so that patient receives the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation and that image quality is maintained.
* Reports problems regarding malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service provider, so that problem can be corrected in a timely manner.
* Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment in accordance with infection control policy and department cleaning schedule.
Operations
* Restocks linens and supplies, and maintains the department in clean and orderly condition.
* Transports patients, positions patients, and helps them on and off procedure table.
* Performs patient charging activities on the day the service is rendered.
* Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.
* Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others upon request as needed and routinely as time is available, without prompting, so that all working time is used for departmental advantage.

Leadership and Collaboration
Manage the staff and professional work of the Respiratory Care Department by: Assuring that quality care is provided by the department is consistent with the mission of the system.
Facilitates the ongoing development of the clinical respiratory staff to function in new roles and skills necessary to care for the patient population
Participates in identifying learning needs, planning and implementing educational programs
Oversees implementation of policy and procedures
Responsible for maintaining the clinical staff schedule
Responsible for coordinating clinical staff schedule to accommodate flexible staffing
Accountable for ensuring adequate coverage during call‐outs/weekends/holidays
Shares responsibility of department administrative call if applicable.

Executes project management for all hospital, respiratory, laboratory, and regulatory requirements in conjunction with and as requested by Site Director/Manager.

Validate compliance in all areas of responsibility for consistent information management (i.e. revenue amp; usage, protocol outcomes).

Required Minimum Education:
Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy education program (CoARC or CAAHP) with minimally 20 quarter hours of science, B.S. degree

The Sonography Supervisor functions as a highly experienced sonographer, working under the
delegated authority of the supervising physicians, and is responsible for the overall daily
management of the sonography department. The Sonography Supervisor's role and
responsibilities extend beyond those of a Staff or Lead sonographer and are focused on
providing leadership to ensure the delivery of safe and efficient patient care. The Sonography
Supervisor's activities are performed in accordance with facility policies and procedures and
applicable professional standards.

Perinatal Sonographer Specific Role Competencies:
1. Education
a. Maintenance of lifelong certification.
b. Provide guidance for general OB/GYN sonographers.
c. Obtain and maintain the following certifications: fetal echo, nuchal translucency, CLEAR within 3 years.
2. Effective Communication
a. Verbal communication with physician, genetic counselor and team regarding ultrasound findings.

Patient Care
1. Verifies proper clinician order for procedure.

Quality Control

3. Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion, prints CDs as needed.
4. Studies that have been reported after hours by teleradiograph are printed and scanned into PACS, if applicable.
5. Completes all studies in RIS before completing in PACS.
6. Prints completed log sheet from teleradiograph and submits to Radiologist, if applicable
7. Performs and maintains quality control logs for probe disinfection and follows infection control policies
Operations
1. Restocks linens and supplies and maintains the department in clean and orderly condition.
2. Transports patients, positions patients, and helps them on and off procedure table.
3. Performs patient charging activities on the day the service is rendered.
4. Applies supportive and immobilization devices and equipment. If needed.
5. Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others upon request as needed and routinely as time is available, without prompting, so that all working time is used for departmental advantage.
6. Performs routine duties of clerical and support personnel in accordance with procedure when warranted to ensure continuity and quality of services.

Completion of checklists or ICAEL and JACHO, and evaluations of interns and 90‐daychecklists
