Responsibilities
Registered nurses (RNs) perform basic duties that include treating patients, educating patients about mental and medical conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients' and/or family members, running therapeutic groups, psychiatric crisis intervention, seclusion and restraint of patients. RNs record patients' medical histories and symptoms, help to perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operate medical machinery, administer treatment and medications, and help with patient follow-up and rehabilitation. RNs teach patients and their families how to manage their illness or injury, diet and exercise programs, and self-administration of medication and physical therapy. Other related duties.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
1. Must have current and valid State license as a Registered Nurse.
2. Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
3. Working knowledge of Mental Health Laws and practice standards.
4. Working knowledge of interdisciplinary treatment team process, behavioral health programming and daily nursing functions for inpatient and outpatient behavioral health units.
5. Working knowledge of the continuum of care for behavioral health care.

Utilizes various collaborative and open communication methods to provide care teams and patient updated information on throughput needs. Involve the patient's bedside nurse in communications related to the status of the patient's discharge or movement through the system.
Collaborates with House Supervisor and Capacity Management to facilitate priority areas of discharge and throughput to prioritize work of the day.
Review future scheduled admissions and procedural volumes to develop and plan for future capacity throughput. Develop strategies and tactics to minimize bottlenecks and patient delays.
Facilitates Care Progression through proactive participation in reviewing patients medically ready for discharge and removing barriers to care progression to a safe and appropriate discharge.
Prioritizes and expedites patient exams, test interpretations, therapy assessments, and other services needed to facilitate a safe and timely patient discharge.
Ensure patient's physical readiness for discharge by removing patient's IV or telemetry equipment, checking for prescriptions and transportation arrangements, providing education as needed, reviewing the discharge instructions, and asking if there are any concerns or questions that haven't already been addressed.

The RN Transplant Coordinator is a licensed professional nurse responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of care for solid organ transplant patients and living donor candidates across the continuum-from referral and evaluation through waitlist management, inpatient care, surgery, and post-transplant/post-donation follow-up. The coordinator ensures patient-centered, regulatory-compliant, and efficient delivery of care by serving as a central liaison among patients, living donors, families, referring providers, and the multidisciplinary transplant team. * Organize and manage outreach evaluation clinics across multiple locations.

Solid Organ Transplant/Renal is 24 bed unit. (1 bed designated as a pre-op bed for those patients being called in for a transplant) UCMC performs Liver, Kidney and Pancreas transplants. The kidney program has a living donor transplant program. All transplant patients, regardless of when their transplant was performed are admitted to 8CCP. This is due to the special care and education necessary for transplant patients. Nursing care is concentrated on recovery from transplantation, focusing on mobility, monitoring of I & O's, pain management and medication administration and education. Transplant patients are always recovered and monitored in the SICU prior to coming to 8CCP. Transplant patients can also be admitted from TACU, clinic, or directly from home. The patient ratio is 1:4 or 1:6 patients. This position will train. New graduates are welcome to apply!

Responsibilities
A Student Nurse Extern may only practice professional nursing under the supervision of a licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse. “Supervision” is defined as the physical presence in the practice area or unit where the extern is providing patient care. The extern is responsible for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process and that is within the scope of practice as determined by the state board of nursing and organizational policies and procedures. The extern is responsible and accountable for the care provided to his/her assigned patients and working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team. The extern will communicate changes in the patient's clinical condition to the supervising licensed Vocational or Registered Nurse and the physician in regard to changes in the patient's clinical condition including vital signs, cardiac monitoring, diagnostic results and other related symptomatology. He/she will respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition and/or response to treatment and document all relevant data in the electronic medical record.
