The Underwriter is responsible for assisting in the development of the financial component of request for proposal (RFP) responses. This position will work with the Senior Underwriters and other internal divisions to coordinate the collection of the pertinent information needed to construct competitive offers, while meeting established financial targets. The Underwriter will serve as a consultant on matters pertaining to both financial and operational performance guarantees, while maintaining a positive working relationship with Sales, Client Engagement, Pricing, Trade Relations and other key business owners within Prime.
Responsibilities
Gathers and examines appropriate documentation and data necessary to develop pricing in response to moderate to complex RFP's
Evaluates the utilization and financial experience of customers and prospects
Performs claims re-pricing analyses of moderately complex external claims data
Maintains appropriate documentation and provides reports as needed, including documenting all pricing decisions
Participates in development of methodologies, models, reports and strategies to support objectives of the position
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in mathematics, accounting, or related area of study, or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant work experience; HS diploma or GED is required
2 years of related work experience in Finance or Accounting
Must be eligible to work in the United States without need for work visa or residency sponsorship
Additional Qualifications
In-depth knowledge of mathematical applications used in underwriting function is required, including the ability to calculate figures such as discounts, proportions and percentages, as well as the ability to apply basic concepts of business mathematics and algebra in underwriting problems
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one or small group situations
Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Knowledge of Salesforce.com

Major Accounts Property is responsible for managing monoline property accounts with a minimum Total Insured Value (TIV) of $300 million, with the average in‑force account exceeding $1 billion. This role oversees an assigned portfolio of the largest and most complex single‑carrier commercial property accounts. The underwriter analyzes customers' property exposures, hazards, financial information, requested coverages, loss history, pricing targets, and desired program structures to select appropriate business and determine terms and conditions. They work closely with Risk Engineering to produce and manage a profitable book of business while maintaining strong producer and customer relationships. The position requires maintaining the highest level of expertise in the large property space, with average account annual premiums of more than $1.2 million, and involves sharing underwriting knowledge with colleagues and stakeholders across all levels.
Responsibilities
Manages portfolio of brokers/agents and clients.
Leverages market presence and knowledge to develop and underwrite profitable business, acting as a representative for Liberty.
Maintains a strong market presence, including established relationships with agents and brokers.
Looks to strengthen these relationships and develop new ones. Contributes ideas for product development and participates in development and execution. Contributes to team projects (e.g., process / tool improvement).
Understands the work implications of relevant legislation and regulation. Collaborates effectively across teams, stakeholders, and partners (e.g., UW Support, Claims, Actuarial, Directors of Underwriting in GRS North America). Mentors junior underwriters and new hires (not as a line manager).
May analyze department's portfolio and make suggestions for development.
May recognize and communicate emerging trends of exposures within line of business expertise.
Qualifications
Degree in Business or equivalent typically required
A minimum of 2.5 years, typically 3 or more years, of progressive underwriting experience and/or other related experience
CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred
Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility that includes competence with all phases and aspects of the underwriting process, and proficiency in the use of qualitative and quantitative tools and techniques
Must demonstrate comprehension of complex technical underwriting issues and be capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows to properly manage or administer those issues
Proven track record of developing and underwriting profitable business

Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of inland marine accounts, with emphasis on Builder's Risk, including project-based policies (single project and Master Builder's Risk programs).
Analyze construction schedules, project values, contract types (GC/CM, Design-Build, EPC), contractor/subcontractor quality, site conditions, testing & commissioning exposures, soft-costs and delay-in-start-up exposures to develop appropriate pricing and terms.
Underwrite a full range of inland marine products (e.g. builders' risk, contractors' equipment, installation/erection and tailor coverage forms, limits, sublimits, and endorsements to client needs.
Partner with risk engineers to identify loss drivers and actionable loss-control recommendations (security, temporary protections, hot-work controls, commissioning protocols) and incorporate these into bind conditions.
Use data, analytics and field intelligence to set premiums, monitor portfolio profitability, and identify cross-sell and diversification opportunities.
Maintain clear, responsive relationships with brokers and agents; present proposals, obtain approvals and close business.
Document underwriting rationale and comply with underwriting guidelines, authority limits and governance processes.
Qualifications
Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience
Experience with Inland Marine or multi-line insurance products
